Everyone has played the original Space Invaders at one point or another -- scrolling back and forth, trying to eliminate each and every menacing insect-like alien floating above you. Imagine that, now add in steroids and speed, and the end result would be something similar to Space Invaders Infinity Gene. Just take a look at the gameplay trailer:

The biggest feature in Infinity Genre is its "the more you play, the more it evolves" styling, so it's an always-changing environment. Of course, gameplay this intense comes at a price -- $7.81, to be exact. While this is most definitely a bit on the high-end, there's no denying that it's a well made take on an old classic.

While Verizon just announced the most powerful device to hit its 4G LTE network to date, AT&T decided to keep the announcements a bit more budget-friendly by dropping the news about the Huawei Impulse 4G, a phone geared towards feature phone users that are looking to jump into the smartphone ring.

top_story_Impulse_4G

The Impulse is a mid-ranger with a 3.8 inch touchscreen, a 5MP rear shooter, and Android 2.2 all running on AT&T's HSPA+ network -- not a powerhouse by any means, but you can't really expect much more from a $30 device. It is expected to land on Ma Bell's sales floor beginning on September 18th, but keep in mind that it will require a data plan, instantly making that ultra-low pricetag a bit less appealing (unless you already have a smartphone contract).

Businesses across the globe turn to Citrix products for their remote access needs every day, and now the company has brought its popular GoToMeeting software to Android devices. GoToMeeting allows you to join meetings and conferences from basically anywhere there is a connection, be it 3G, 4G, or Wi-Fi.

You can easily join meetings with a single tap, view presentations and reports, pinch-to-zoon content, see attendance lists, and interact with the presenters through the mic and speakers on your device, though a headset is recommended. The app is completely free, and it allows you to join meetings on Android 2.2+ devices -- if you want to host meetings, however, you'll need to have the desktop software.

A few weeks ago, we covered an incredible new camera app called Paper Camera. It's unique in nature because it offers amazing real-time effects (as opposed to post-processed effects, like most other third-party camera apps), like cartoon, sketch, comic book, old printer, neon, bleaching, half-time, noir, newspaper, and more.

The app is normally a couple of bucks in the Android Market, but for this week, GetJar is offering the full version absolutely free of charge. I stand corrected - Paper Camera, along with all other GetJar Gold apps, will remain free indefinitely!

This is definitely one of the most unique camera apps that I've ever seen, and now there is no reason not to have it installed.

hp-touchpad

Developers are making progress on the Android - TouchPad front almost daily, and the next major hurdle has been crossed(aside from getting Android to boot, of course) -- the touchscreen. For the past few weeks, devs have been spending countless hours trying to get the multitouch display to work properly with Android, and that feat was achieved earlier today.

Like I said, this is the first of many issues that need to be fixed, but it's a great start nonetheless.

It's not much a of a secret that the optimal position to use a tablet is by holding it, but it's also well known that it's not always the most practical option, either. For example, if you're using it for a cookbook in the kitchen, it's far more ideal to keep it on the counter while you work. Similarly, no one really wants to hold a tablet in-hand while watching an entire movie.

For situations like this, there are a ton of various tablet stands on the market. One such stand is the iTilt Tablet Stand (okay, it's really called an iPad stand, but that's just silly) from Bracketron.

Sprint

Last week, the US Department of Justice filed an antitrust complaint against the proposed AT&T/T-Mobile deal. Naturally, Sprint was quite pleased by this, as it has been fighting this deal tooth-and-nail since its initial announcement. Now, The Now Network has filed its own suit to block the deal.

Sprint's lawsuit is focused on how this merger would affect both competition and the consumer market, citing that it would:

  • Harm retail consumers and corporate customers by causing higher prices and less innovation.
  • Entrench the duopoly control of AT&T and Verizon, the two "Ma Bell" descendants, of the almost one-quarter of a trillion dollar wireless market.

I've always been a huge fan of software customization and theming; back in the early days of Windows XP, I would change themes, wallpapers, and icons almost daily, focusing on every detail to get that perfect look. Over time, I've become a huge fan of the minimal style on all of my devices, and there's no better place to get inspiration to re-theme a tired layout than by looking at other screenshots.

Fortunately, there are several resources dedicated to such things, one of which is the newly opened myColorscreen beta site. MyColorscreen differs from other sites, as it focuses exclusively on mobile homescreen customization, highlighting the various tools that the submitter used in creating the look.
