Everyone likes "free" money, and Sprint is looking to take advantage of our human nature with its latest deal: buy any smartphone and add a new line of service, get a $100 Amex giftcard. It's not exactly free money, per se, but it is a nice incentive, especially if you've been considering adding a second line anyway.

As the ad above states, this deal is available for any smartphone (as long as you order it online).

EA just announced at a GamesCon press conference that it will be bringing the popular Origin game store to Android (along with Facebook, Mac, and Smart TVs). For the unaware, Origin is basically EA's answer to Steam as a go-to place to purchase and download games.

At this point there are no other details, but it's worth noting the Mac version has a tentative release timeframe of February 2013. Perhaps we'll see the Android version around that time, too (but I wouldn't count on it).

Samsung has been working to push Ice Cream Sandwich to the entire Galaxy Tab series as of late. We've already seen it hit the 7.0 Plus Wi-Fi, 7.7, and 10.1. As usual, owners of carrier-connected tablets have to wait a bit longer, as the update has more hoops to jump through before it can get the final approval and make its way to said devices.

Looks like T-Mobile is among one of the first carriers to offer the update for its variant of the Tab 7.0 Plus, and it's scheduled to become available tomorrow.

DarkSilver-590x603

It looks like the Galaxy S III isn't the only device getting a makeover in the color department: Sony just announced that the Xperia S will be available soon in dark silver. The device is currently available in both white and black, so if you have some sort of phobia against the extreme color palate, then this new version may be the answer to your I-want-an-Xperia-S-but-hate-black-and-white prayers.

DarkSilver-590x603

Unfortunately, Sony failed to mentioned when exactly this new color option will become available, only suggesting that we "keep [our] eyes peeled."

Specs:

  • 4.3-inch 1280x720 display
  • 1.5GHz dual-core processor
  • 32GB built-in storage
  • 12MP Exmor R camera
  • NFC
  • Android 4.0

A few weeks ago, UDS offered a deal to Android Police readers for a silver Capta and three PuGoo pads for $30. By now, the bulk of you who ordered have probably received your goodies, and some of you may already be looking for new ways to use Capta. We already know that it makes an excellent accessory to attach your phone to a tripod, but it also makes an awesome dash mount in the car.

Sprint announced the Photon Q, its first LTE device with a full QWERTY keyboard, back in late July with nary a word on pricing or availability. We've heard rumors here and there about a mid-August release, but The Now Network has finally unveiled an official release date of August 19th, as well as a price of $199 with a two-year agreement.

The Photon Q is Motorola's newest offering to the QWERTY world, and is basically an Atrix HD with a keyboard:

1

  • 4.3" ColorBoost display
  • 1.5GHz dual-core processor (presumably Snapdragon S4)
  • 1GB RAM
  • 8GB storage, microSD card slot
  • 8MP 1080p rear shooter, 720p front-facing camera
  • HDMI out
  • NFC
  • Full QWERTY slider
  • LTE, global ready
  • Android 4.0.4

If you want to ensure you'll have the most powerful slider on the market in your hands on 8/19, pre-orders begin today in Sprint stores and on the web.

When I was younger, Mike Tyson's Punch Out for the old-school Nintendo was one of my favorite games. It was challenging, crazy-fun, and had a fat king with no nose. Fast-forward many years, and the classic title returned with some familiar faces on the Wii, and it was just as much fun as the original.

One of the best things about Punch Out was (and still is) its whimsical style; along those same lines is a new game from Gamevil called Punch Hero.

Anyone who sends out Gmail messages containing the same body text over and over again knows how taxing that can be. Fortunately, there's a great feature in Labs called Canned Responses to help combat this issue by offering the ability to have pre-built responses directly within the compose window.

Let's say, for example, you're out of town and won't be able to respond to most email in a timely manner, but don't want to set an away notice so everyone gets the same response.

Tablets are good for a lot of things: surfing the web, playing games, watching movies, checking email, and even getting some work done, among others. For many of us, the tablet has largely replaced the smartphone as a go-to device for mobile computing. On occasion, though, it needs a little help to make certain tasks - such as listening to music - a standout experience. For that, there's no shortage of speaker accessories available, many of which are small, portable, and Bluetooth.

If you love ESPN but are angry because Comcast won't let you watch it on your phone through the WatchESPN app, your luck just changed. The most recent update to the app fixes that exact issue: it now allows Comcast customers who get ESPN as part of the TV package watch the channel on their smartphone or tablet.

1

That's really the only major difference with this update - aside from the always-included bug fixes, of course.
