About Cameron Summerson

Cameron is a self-made geek, Android enthusiast, horror movie fanatic, musician, and cyclist. When he's not pounding keys here at AP, you can find him spending time with his wife and kids, plucking away on the 6-string, spinning on the streets, or watching The Texas Chainsaw Massacre on repeat.

So there you are, at the end of the two-year agreement with your current carrier. You're at fork in the road. On one hand, you could drop a couple hundred bucks for a new phone, sign a new agreement, and start the cycle all over again. On the other, you could spend a couple hundred bucks with Virgin Mobile, nix the contract, and be a free man (or woman, whatevs). So what do you do?

Who likes free stuff? You? Great, because we have some to give away (don't we always?)! Up for grabs today are three cases, courtesy of the awesome guys over at Otterbox. We all know and love Otterbox cases for the rugged, durable protection they provide our devices, but here's a quick look at each series of case.

So, by now you've heard of the Galaxy Nexus/Nexus Prime/Droid Prime/Samsung Prime... or whatever we're calling it these days. If you haven't, well... you should find a rock with internet access to live under. Details are few and far between, but thanks to the guys over at MyDroidWorld, we have a full listing of the installed system apps to gander at while we wait for something better to come along.

An update started rolling out to the Motorola XOOM Wi-Fi earlier today, bumping the build number up to HTK75D. While we're not entirely sure of everything that this update brings, there is one obvious difference: the Market.

With the flood of Android apps hitting the Market everyday, finding exactly what you're looking for can be difficult and frustrating. Typically, when any of my Android-carrying friends are looking for new apps to play with, they ask me for suggestions. Likewise, I hit up my fellow editors when looking for something new and interesting to fiddle with (and let's not forget about Artem's awesome app roundups).

Ice Cream Sandwich. Those three words are sure to catch the attention of every Android feen within a 10 mile radius. If the mere mention of the upcoming version of Android can cause such a stir amongst the community, just imagine what will happen when we get to see it in action?

When US Cellular decides to make an announcement, it plays no games. Single device announcements? Puh-leez, that's for kids. Three devices at once? Now that's pro.

We've all been (or will be, at some point) in this situation: you're sharing expenses with your roommates, when suddenly no one has the funds to cover a particular bill. It's unclear who is supposed to be responsible for the unpaid bill, but, because of one person's shortsightedness, it's up to everyone else to make up the difference.

It's no secret that we love developers here at AP -- they are what fuels the Android ecosystem, after all. To show our appreciation for the elite group that get to call themselves 'devs', we've already successfully sent five on their way to various conferences to help further their skills and networking. At the beginning of the month, we gave away two three tickets to the Android Open Conference in San Francisco, and, more recently, we sent a couple of lucky devs to AnDevCon II, also in SF.

ASUS started pushing an update to the Eee Pad Transformer this morning that brings some minor bug fixes, app updates, improved translations, a new feature called "Supernote," and, most notably, Android 3.2.1 to the tablet/laptop hybrid device.

While the entire tech world is abuzz with news of the just-announced Kindle Fire, MetroPCS unveiled the latest smartphone to land on its 4G LTE network: the LG Esteem 4G.

It has been a long time coming, and even though we already knew basically everything about the device, Amazon just officially unveiled its very own Android tablet: the Kindle Fire.

Update: If you've been itching to try this workaround on a non-T-Mobile phone, then now's your chance. The Snozzy dev has added experimental support for AT&T and Sprint, and untested support for Verizon, Virgin, Cricket, Straight Talk, US Cellular, and Viaero. Since the latter group is completely untested, there's a good chance that it will be extremely buggy, if it even works at all. If you decide to give it a go, make sure to drop us a line and let us know how it turns out!

Samsung officially announced the Galaxy Tab 8.9 yesterday, and today, the kernel source has been released. Considering we already know what the Tegra 2 is capable of and how much it can be overclocked while remaining completely stable, I expect to see 1.4GHz kernels pop up before the device is even released.

At the beginning of August, the CM team announced that they would be supporting the Sony Ericsson Xperia Play, arc, and neo. Cyanogen himself has now announced via Google+ that they have joined together with the FreeXperia Team to bring CM7 to seven other Xperia devices in future releases, totaling the number of supported Xperia devices to ten. The full list includes:

If you've dreamed of being a renegade cop ready and willing to bend all the rules in order to put a stop to street crime, then Gameloft's newest title 9mm is the game for you.

It's no secret that we're big fans of tower defense games here at AP -- from Plants vs. Zombies to Fieldrunners HD, we're all about adding a new twist to a fun classic. Magic Defenders HD looks to do just that, with its deep storyline, amazing graphics, and downright awesome gameplay. Don't take my word for it, though, check this out:

If you've been holding back the jealousy since Minecraft's arrival on the Xperia Play, then a sigh of relief is in order -- Minecraft is coming to other Android devices on September 29th.

Yeah, we know -- it has only been three days since we leaked Gingerbread build 2.11.605.2 RUU for the TBolt, but how could we say no when our homie Justin Case from TeamAndIRC asked us if we want to drop a newer leak?

Remember the 1.5GHz powerhouse G9 tablets that were officially announced last week by ARCHOS? Yeah, the ones with staggering release dates ranging from September 20th to sometime in October. Need a refresher? Okay - here's the quick and dirty edition:
