Bertel King, Jr.
Born and raised in the rural South, Bertel knows what it's like to live without 4G LTE - or 3G, for that matter. The only things he likes sweeter than his tea are his gadgets, and while few objects burn more than a metal phone on a summer day, he prefers them that way anyway.

HBOGO-Thumb

I've wanted HBO for a while now, but I haven't desired it strongly enough to subscribe to an expensive cable plan and put up with an ugly box under my TV. I'm a young twenty-something that has cut the cord with no desire to get tethered down to such a dated system, and since I refuse to pirate content, I've opted to miss out on some great shows. I would love to give HBO my money, if only they would let me.

TMobile-Thumb

Many T-Mobile users rely on Wi-Fi calling to use their mobile number without needing access to the mobile network, but they aren't Nexus 5 owners. That handset, due to its lack of carrier modifications, didn't support T-Mobile's nifty feature. With the Nexus 6, things will be different. The carrier has already announced that it is bringing Wi-Fi calling to the handset.

T-Mobile says it will deliver Wi-Fi calling via an over-the-air update at some point in early 2015, thanks, it says, to enhancements in Android 5.0.

Nexus6-Thumb

There have been many reasons to sweat over whether the Nexus 6 will come with wireless charging support. The new Moto X that it's derived from doesn't support the feature, and there's zero mention of it on Google's Nexus 6 page. Well, you can rest easy now. This year's Nexus phone will still have support for wireless charging. It's listed on the device's full spec sheet.

The support is built-in, so you won't have to invest in a case or some other contraption to get things to work.

The Nexus 6 is too big to be stopped. The news is out, and the phone is as large as you hoped or feared but expected nonetheless. This year's Nexus phone is essentially a stretched out Moto X packed with better specs - 5.96" AMOLED 1440 x 2560 display (493PPI), Snapdragon 805 processor, Adreno 420 GPU, 3GB RAM, 3220mAh battery, 13MP camera, and a 2MP front shooter. On the external side of things, the power and volume buttons have slid halfway down the side of the device so that they're still accessible.

SentinelsThumb

I love Sentinels of the Multiverse, even though my friends and I lose nearly every time we attempt to stand up against Baron Blade and the forces of evil (don't get me started on Omnitron). There's just something about this comic book-inspired card battle game that makes me want to give it my all and work with my teammates to resist the waves of damage being heaped upon us by villains and the environment alike.

Shortly before jumping into the set top box race, Amazon unveiled that it was ready to bring exclusive games to its platforms. Since then, Amazon Game Studios has released a number of titles, with Sev Zero launching with the Fire TV, followed by Saber's Edge and To-Fu Fury for Fire Phone. Now we see three more that are currently in development: CreepStorm, Til Morning's Light, and Tales From Deep Space.

Two of these titles, CreepStorm and Tales From Deep Space, are Fire tablet exclusives.

qikthumb

In ye olden days of Android, a video-sharing service by the name of Qik attracted millions of users. It grew rapidly enough to catch Skype's eye, and the larger video-based serviced acquired the smaller for a cool $150 million. It eventually shuttered the offering, and now it's bringing it back in the form of a peculiar new video messaging app.

Skype Qik draws inspiration from a number of different apps.

Potentialthumb

Every now and then an app pops up that looks like it was designed entirely for people like us. And by us, I mean tech reviewers, enthusiasts, and people who just somehow end up with more gadgets to maintain than we know what to do with. In this situation, it can be challenging to keep up with all the electronics and make sure each device is charged enough for use. Potential is a new app (still in beta) that can keep track of everything's battery life from a single location, and with its slick Material-inspired design, it looks good doing it.

2013Nexus7-Thumb

It won't be long now until the 2013 Nexus 7 is no longer Google's newest tablet. Depending on who you are, that makes now the best or worst time to buy one. If you don't care about having the latest stuff and would rather save some bucks, then this is a good time to do precisely that. Groupon has a refurbished version of the 32GB Nexus 7 with LTE (otherwise known as the expensive one) marked down to just $199.99.

Last Updated: October 21st, 2014

The OnePlus One has had its share of bugs, but there has been one issue that effectively breaks the phone without the owner being even accidentally at fault. One minute you're swiping through the app drawer looking at the best way to kill time for a couple of minutes, the next you're hit with a spontaneous reboot and staring at a phone that boot loops indefinitely, leaving you with a bricked device.
