Bertel King, Jr.
Born and raised in the rural South, Bertel knows what it's like to live without 4G LTE - or 3G, for that matter. He now lives in the City of Bridges, adjusting to the presence of actual snow. His phone of choice is the HTC One.

300-Thumb

300: Rise of an Empire - Seize Your Glory confuses what goes in a name and what should be a tagline. Shortening this down to 300: Rise of an Empire, the name of the upcoming film it's based on, would make perfect sense, but no. Instead, we get this.

LODT-Thumb

If we've learned anything from World of Warcraft, it's that strategy games and MMOs go hand in hand. Blizzard's role-playing game has been consuming lives for over a decade now, but it began as an RTS that was arguably every bit as engrossing. Line of Defense is taking a different approach. This MMO has now spawned a tactics game available for Windows, Mac OS X, iOS, and, yes, Android - all on the same day.

Wojcicki-Thumb

Google's new head of YouTube will be Susan Wojcicki, formerly a Senior Vice President of Ads and Commerce. She is replacing Salar Kamangar, who will remain with Google to work on other things. CEO Larry Page made the announcement earlier today in an emailed statement.

"Salar and the whole YouTube team have built something amazing. YouTube is a billion-person global community curating videos for every possibility. Anyone uploading their creative content can reach the whole world and even make money.

IntoNow-Thumb

Do you use your smartphone while watching TV? Yeah, put your hands down. We're all guilty here. Yahoo hoped to take advantage of this habit of ours with IntoNow, an app that could identify whatever show was on and provide extra information about it (think SoundHound for TV). Yeah, the end result was still distracting, but it could be less disruptive than performing a Google search. Regardless, it doesn't matter anymore.

LGGFlex-Thumb

The LG G Flex is big, slightly curved, and generally overpriced. Now you can add one more thing to that list - it's available from T-Mobile right on schedule. Anyone who wants to own this phone commitment-free for $672 (or for $28 a month over the course of two years) can do so right away, both online and in stores.

Maybe you have your eyes set on the LG Optimus F3Q instead.

Path-Thumb

Path is one of the few social networks that doesn't encourage users to befriend or follow as many people as they can, instead encouraging users to strengthen relationships with a limited number of others using messages and pictures. Now, add personal videos to that list. With version 3.4, users can now use Path to capture up to 30 seconds of video and share it with their friends.

Sports-Thumb

Sports apps typically aren't the most attractive pieces of software tucked away on Google Play, because let's be honest, why bother? Your average user will just be happy to pull up scores and stats in the palm of their hand, and whether the app adheres to Android's design guidelines occupies about as much thought as that thing they're supposed to be doing instead of watching the game. But if you're as likely to cry foul on a hideous app as you are a bad play, then the latest CBS Sports update may just make you smile.

WinkIt-Thumb

Wink It Keyboard may not yet be the most obnoxious Android keyboard, but give it time, it's still in beta. This product comes from the developers of Adaptxt Keyboard, which made a name for itself by being feature-rich and customizable. Wink It's approach is decidedly less useful. Its goal is not to improve your typing. Oh no, it wants to change the way you use emoticons. It sticks various images in the suggestion bar as you type, encouraging you to stick them into your messages more often.

CaptainAmerica

When a comic book movie hits theaters, you already know a movie tie-in game is on its way. The next Captain America film is scheduled to hit the big screen in roughly two months, so Gameloft and Marvel are teasing their upcoming game with a brief. While its existence hardly qualifies as news, its attractive art style and new gameplay mechanics may be reason to take notice.

The decision to use cel-shaded graphics is a fitting one.
