About Bertel King, Jr.

Bertel is a Linux user who likes budget smartphones more than flagships, uses a custom ROM, and gets his apps from F-Droid. When he isn't writing short stories for Android Police, you might find him penning the fictional kind. Otherwise, look for him reading pixels that were converted to ink and paper.

You get in, you check your email, and you get out. That's the plan anyway, and Yahoo doesn't like it. That time spent using other apps is valuable time that could be spent using its own. To tackle this issue head-on, the company has updated its Yahoo Mail app with the goodies (read: distractions) from the Yahoo homepage that people know and love. Now instead of just the mail, users will have access to the latest current events, weather reports, sports scores, popular videos, and other non-mail related attractions. The UI has changed around enough that Yahoo is referring to this as a whole new app.

Godzilla is a giant, city-destroying monster that challenges us to ponder the fragility of life and the horrors of mass destruction. A 2014 adaptation is hitting theaters now, which means a movie tie-in game is destined to hit the Play Store. What do we have this time? A brawler? A first-person shooter? A side-scroller crammed with in-app purchases? No, silly. It's a match 3 puzzle game.

HTC One M8 Makes Multiple Appearances Sporting A Deep Coat Of Red

Over the course of its lifespan, the HTC One M7 also came in a plethora of colors, though those trickled out a bit more slowly.

The HTC One M8 is a metal phone, so naturally it launched in metallic colors: gunmetal gray, the M7's shade of silver, and some kind of gold. Since then, we've seen leaked shots of the phone in pink and blue. Now our eyes have witnessed it in red.

Microsoft put a good deal of focus on Titanfall when it pushed out the Xbox One, and it remains the most high-profile title for the console. The action-packed first person shooter shakes up the traditional deathmatch formula by adding mechs that players are free to hop in and out of. As a result, the game introduces more of a vertical component to the firefight, as combatants are able to hop along walls and wage war across various floors. Now EA has released a companion app to the game for Android.

2013Nexus7-Thumb

A brand new 2013 Nexus 7 will set you back $229 to $269, depending on how much memory is crammed inside. This isn't a bad price considering the quality and capability of the hardware, but who doesn't love for cheap things to be even cheaper? So here's a deal that does just that. You can currently pick up a refurbished 16GB Nexus 7 on eBay for just $149. Yeah, it's not new, but it's not full price either.

Some places offer delivery and some don't. This is the way things are, sure, but that doesn't make life any easier for the busier (or lazier) among us. There's an itch to be scratched here, and Postmates steps in to handle it. The service turns any restaurant or grocery store into one that's able to deliver to your door. It does this by paying people to read your shopping list, pick everything up, and bring it to you.

The SwiftKey developers are getting ready to introduce a version of their popular third-party keyboard with Japanese input support. Prominent features should transition over just fine, with the keyboard still able to make personalized predictions and suggest emoji that it thinks may be appropriate. It will be able to switch back and forth between Japanese and English, making it useful for native Japanese speakers and friends of Japanese speakers alike.

Xiaomi announced the Tegra K1-powered Mi Pad tablet today, but that wasn't the only impressive piece of tech the company had to show off. The Chinese manufacturer is back with its second smart TV, and this one's packing a 49" 4K display. To make things even better, the Mi TV 2 will go for CN¥3,999, a little over $600.

Sony has announced the Xperia A2 in Japan, where it will be available for NTT DoCoMo. This is the phone that could potentially be branded as the Z2 Compact if it ships internationally, though it's far more similar to the Z1 Compact in power and size than the Z2. This device appears to be more about offering a more affordable offering than the same device in a smaller package.

Developer Her Interactive and Nancy Drew have a long relationship that will, by the end of this month, span thirty PC games (and some Mac) over the course of roughly fifteen years. These point-and-click adventure titles are standard fare for fans of the genre, containing puzzles, mysteries, and an engaging plot. Now one has made its way to Android, Nancy Drew: Ghost of Thornton." This isn't the first game in the main series (yes, the company has more than one Nancy Drew series), nor the second, nor the third. It's the twenty-eighth.

HTC took the wraps off the previously leaked One Mini 2 today (stylized as One mini 2), revealing a device that is slightly smaller than its older sibling and substantially more out of shape. With only a Snapdragon 400 processor and 1GB of RAM, it won't move around pixels nearly as quickly as the device it takes inspiration from. At least with its 4.5-inch 720p display, it won't need to crank out as many, though it's still a stretch to think of a phone this size as small.

People keeping up with Android over the years may have noticed that Samsung spits out a ton of devices. Heck, people who haven't been keeping up know that much, making this potentially the least surprising sentence I write all day: Samsung has more tablets on the way. We can expect the company to unveil them at the 2014 Galaxy Premiere event on June 12th. Invites have gone out, with attendees expected to show up at Madison Square Garden in New York City.

Kongregate has brought Tiny Dice Dungeon to Android, supplying us mobile gamers with another RPG filled with quests, battles, and loot. This particular game is set apart by its innovative turn-based combat system, which requires players to roll die to attack. The numbers rolled determine how much damage gets dealt. Rolling a double causes increased damage, while getting a one means the attack misses. The system works by combining strategy with good old-fashioned luck.

The Galaxy S5 already has pretty decent battery life, but ZeroLemon wants it to last quite a bit longer. The phone comes with 2800mAh of juice out of the box, but ZeroLemon has an extended battery, case included, that will bump that up to 7500mAh. That's over twice the battery life, and you can now get your hands on it through Amazon for $49.99.

Essentially three years after the release of the first game, developer Distinctive Games is back with another title dedicated to kicking a rugby ball through a goal over, and over, and over again. The game has vastly improved graphics over the first entry, which came out just as mobile games were starting to close the gap with portable handhelds. Like some of the developer's other recent games, Rugby Kicks 2 was created using its Phoenix 3D engine.

Jewish holidays follow the Hebrew calendar, so their dates appear to move around each year. Now Google Calendar should be better able to help keep track of them. Google has rolled out the ability to select the Hebrew calendar in the web version of Google Calendar. This will enable users to see Hebrew dates alongside their usual ones.

Monument Valley has been available for iOS for little over a month, but it has already amassed around half a million downloads. What makes that figure even more impressive? This isn't a freemium game. No, people are buying and playing it at $3.99 a pop. Something about this strikingly beautiful puzzle adventure is attracting gamers in spades.

Now you see it, now you don't. Just like that, Blink is disappearing in the blink of an eye. Okay, not quite. Current users will gradually see the service shut down on both Android and iOS over the next few weeks, following the app's acquisition by Yahoo.

Google's little media streaming dongle has managed to take off, and now it's time to further leave the nest. The gadget that launched in the US has already expanded to Canada and countries all through Europe. Now the dongle has made its way across the Pacific to South Korea, the first country in Asia to receive access.

Play Store carrier billing support has rolled out to another mobile provider, 3 (Drei) in Austria. If you head over to Google's carrier billing support page, the site doesn't list it just yet, but thanks to a tip, we've laid our eyes on screenshots suggesting otherwise. Here, feast your eyes as well.
