Even those of you living and breathing Android may find the topic of this story a bit too geeky, mostly because it's completely impractical in day-to-day life.

However, if you ever want a set fun Android characters with letters embedded in them - perhaps, to use a few in an interesting way on a flyer or in an email, or in a resume that starts each paragraph with one of these guys (don't overuse them though, as they're hard to read)?

About a month ago, I discovered that my favorite desktop file manager, Total Commander, had an Android implementation, written by the author of the program himself - Christian Ghisler.

If you need a recap of all the awesomeness TC brings to the table on both Android phones and tablets, and why it replaced Root Explorer, ASTRO, and all other file managers for me, go ahead and read [Total Nerdgasm] Total Commander For Android Is Very Real And Functional, With Root Support And Plugins - No Ads And Free Forever - I'll wait right here.

Last week, I traded my Google I/O Chromebook for an ASUS Eee Pad Transformer/keyboard dock combo and started exploring the fascinating laptop/tablet hybrid. Overall, my impressions so far are more positive than I thought they would be, and I'll most likely end up selling the 3G XOOM that has none of the features the Transformer with the dock have to offer. The only problem with the Transformer that I've experienced is a relatively poor battery life compared to both the XOOM and the Tab 10.1, which I can't explain yet...

Following the European Sensation and this morning's EVO 3D's updates to Android 2.3.4, which, among other things, brought bootloader unlocking capabilities to both devices, T-Mobile just announced that the Sensation 4G is now receiving the 2.3.4 update as well. The update (software version 1.45.531.1) brings the following changes to the device:

The update to Android 2.3.4 / software version 1.45.531.1 has the following features and improvements.

New Features

    • Software stability
    • Improved battery life

    Improvements

      • Improvements to Trace dictionary
      • Improvements to screen responsiveness
      • Improvements to video playback
      • Improvements  regarding device reboot / power off
      • Improvements to icon  pixilation
      • Improvements to Wi-Fi connection
      • Improvements to screen/photo resolution

I'm willing to bet that the update also brings bootloader unlocking, just as soon as HTC opens up the flood gates over at HTCDev.com's bootloader unlock page.

A couple of days ago, HTC revealed their bootloader unlock portal and started with 1 of the 3 (so far) promised devices - the European Sensation. The EVO 3D  and the T-Mobile Sensation 4G remained MIA for the time being.

Notice how the Sensation was unlocked shortly after receiving an Android 2.3.4 OTA, which apparently gave it its "unlockability." Now remember what happened this morning? Yup - the EVO 3D also got the 2.3.4 update and, you guessed it - it's now unlockable at HTCDev.com.

The 7th Android Police book giveaway is now over, and we've picked the winners. A copy of Android 3.0 Application Development Cookbook will be shipped to each of the following readers who answered this question, as selected by Packt and Android Police:

What interests you the most about this book?

      Joe Rivera:

What this book feels like to me is a great opportunity to learn about development the right way as opposed to searching 5 different forum sites just to get sent to 10 different webpages and have you give your email for more assistance that gets you 100 pieces of junk mail every day when all I wanted to know was where to start reading.

Minecraft, a game that attracted almost 12 million players, over 3 million of whom paid for it, has long been teased for Android by its creator Markus Persson of Mojang. As of today, it's finally available on the Android Market for $6.92 or as a free demo. As expected, the game is currently limited to the Xperia Play - the rest of us will just have to do away with this trailer:

So, are any Xperia Play owners picking the game up?

MIUI, one of Android's most popular custom ROM flavors, has been limited to purely software for existing devices... until today. Made by a Chinese company Xiaomi which has been in charge of MIUI's software development, the MIUI phone was just announced in China (where Xiaomi is based), and I must say - it's no hush puppy and leaves us highly impressed.
