I'm not sure how season two of Fact Checkers Unit escaped our attention back in January, but thanks to Samsung's official blog which highlighted this hilarious series today, we now know better. And let me tell you, if you haven't seen any of the new episodes yet, you're in for a treat.

Fact Checkers Unit started as a short film with Bill Murray, then turned into a web series (Hulu has the first season episodes as well), and thanks to Samsung, MTV, SXM Entertainment, and Moxie Pictures has now reached season two. All five episodes of this season maintain high production quality mixed with occasional Galaxy Note usage scenarios and top notch humor that is sure to crack a smile on your face.

In preparation for the upcoming final releases, the Android team today released ADT 17-preview (Android Developer Tools plugin for Eclipse) and SDK Tools r17-preview with the following improvements that eager developers can try out without waiting any longer.

What's New

Out of all the additions and changes, I'm mostly excited about the new network usage tool, the fix for the dreaded "Conversion to Dalvik format failed with error 1" error when trying to use Proguard (oh, how many hours I wasted on this one), and the end to default ids for various layout elements. Sweet deal.

Here's the full changelog:

New Features

  • DDMS can now show the live detailed network usage of an app (More Info)
  • ProGuard
    • Bundled ProGuard updated to version 4.7.

Update #1: According to ASUS' Twitter, the Android 4.0 update should begin rolling out in the U.S. tomorrow, February 24th. Yay!

Update #2: ASUS UK confirmed the same date.

After numerous delays and much confusion (mostly due to ASUS Singapore being more out of touch with reality than other regional divisions), ASUS finally started the Ice Cream Sandwich over-the-air update process for the original Transformer TF101 today.

The official ASUS Facebook account stated that the OTA with version number 9.2.1.11 is going to be available in Taiwan first, followed by other regions "soon after." Hopefully, that means the rest of the world will be able to enjoy ICS within the next few days, barring any unexpected issues.

After a period of limited beta testing, Citibank officially announced today that remote check deposits can now be done using its mobile app for Android. Just snap a picture of the check, and it's deposited remotely. The deposit limit seems to be $1,000 per day (at least it was during the beta), so it won't replace going to a local branch to deposit your paycheck just yet for some of you.

Sounds great. but does it work? I've been using the Chase app to deposit the few occasional checks that come in and haven't needed to go to a bank for a long time, but since Citibank is my main banking account, I decided to check it out.

The Mobile World Congress is right around the corner (David an I are packing our bags as we speak), and HTC decided to tease us ahead of time with a picture of a phone outline and a number 5. They didn't have to spend much on making that one - this is literally the simplest and least interesting teaser I've seen in a while (did you get a bunch of new interns recently?):

Since HTC doesn't want to make it fun, we decided to give it a go ourselves:

  • MWC starts in 5 days.
  • Could it be a 5" HTC phone?

The boot animation from CyanogenMod 7 still ranks somewhere towards the top of my personal list, but this new one, created by the same designer Cameron Behzadpour (73v1n) using Adobe After Effects, is definitely a step-up.

It builds on top of his previous effort and is quite possibly the best-looking boot animation I've seen on Android so far. And it's officially coming to CM9. Excellent work, Cameron!

Update: Check out this unofficial take on the same animation, but without as much background noise that some of you may prefer:

I have to apologize. For what, you're asking? For not publishing this video 15 minutes sooner, mostly due to being incapacitated by convulsive laughter that resulted from watching it.

What we have here today is probably the most hysterical unofficial review of the Galaxy Note any phone, ever. Of course, I welcome you to beat it (just leave a link in the comments), but my memory does not have a record of a performance that could rival this one by ELPRESADOR.

I won't spoil it for you further. Just watch. It's pure gold.

In Eric's words: "I want to hear this guy do football commentary."
