Kudos to HTC for taking time with producing their official walkthrough videos - they are usually superb, to say the least.

The video HTC posted today showcasing the upcoming Desire HD with the updated Sense UI is no exception. Over 7 minutes of high quality, narrated video is awaiting you below - just hit play, adjust the stream to 720p HD, kick back, and watch:

Today, Launcher Pro, one of the best homescreen replacements for Android, got a nice update, introducing a couple of new features and bug fixes. I replaced the bloated Sense UI on my EVO with Launcher Pro Plus about 2 weeks ago, and ever since then, half of my co-workers did the same, seeing what it can do.

The new update finally introduces a customizable number of icon columns and rows, which is no longer limited to 4 or 5.

With the release of Froyo, Google promised to start decoupling applications bundled with the Android at the core - we've already seen it done to Maps, Navigation, Street View, and other programs. Today Gmail joins the party with the rollout of a new version 2.3 that can now be installed from the Market.

What does it mean? Well, previously, the Gmail app was only updated when you upgrade the whole operating system.

If you remember, a few months ago, I found a nice, strong 4G signal around Mountain View/Santa Clara, right in the heart of the Silicon Valley. Sprint promised 4G in the Bay Area by the end of the year, so it was only logical to see them starting some testing. Today, it looks like Sprint kicked the testing up a notch and lit up San Francisco, according to reports by both IntoMobile and Engadget.

Plants Vs Zombies

I loved Plants Vs Zombies on my PC. LOVED it. I don't get excited by games much anymore but Plants Vs Zombies by PopCap captured my full attention for weeks when it just came out a couple of years back. A version for the iPhone came out later and enjoyed similar success to the original game. PopCap's Android page, however, has been quite empty. Literally:

Will PopCap ever release an Android variant?

I'm not sure how much money Sprint spent on this but I'm sure whatever the amount was, they overpaid. In an effort to promote the recently launched Samsung Epic 4G handset and the new Media Hub, the company shot a series of short movies, all with the word "Epic" in the titles.

The website layout, production quality, and presentation are all top notch. What is not top notch, however, is the most important part - the content.

Orlando residents have 2 exciting things going on as of today - Disney World and now Sprint's 4G service. Today, the company officially announced the launch of 4G in Florida's 5th largest city, immediately available to all EVO 4G and Epic 4G users.

Sprint has been on fire lately - the announcement follows hot on the heels of last week's Nashville 4G launch and the introduction of Epic 4G in the beginning of the month.

The New Fast Boot

If you haven't seen any demos from the recent HTC press conference showcasing the company's new Fast Boot technology available on the newly announced Desire Z and Desire HD handsets, you should stop everything you're doing and watch them immediately:

The new Fast Boot allows for boot-up times as low as 5 seconds. According to HTC, Desire HD and Z

... include the new HTC Fast Boot that enables people to quickly make a call or check emails by shortening the time taken to complete the power-up sequence.

CyanogenMod 6 is one of the most popular Android custom ROMs, and for a good reason - besides supporting a myriad of devices, it is built from AOSP (Android Open Source Project), which means no extra garbage that normally comes installed by carriers and customizations/improvements for the people, by the people (the CM contributor community is huge).

Sprint has abandoned our beloved HTC Hero (it was my first Android device a bit under a year ago now and holds a special place in my heart) but the Android community hasn't.
