Today is a big day for all of us here at AP, but more so for our loyal and dedicated readers!

Over the past few weeks Artem and the senior editorial team behind AP have been in deep discussions with Tim Armstrong, CEO and Chairman of AOL, and Arianna Huffington, president and editor-in-chief of The Huffington Post Media Group, and early this morning an agreement was reached that would see AP join the ranks of the veritable who's who of tech blogs, such as TechCrunch and Engadget.

The smartphone is slowly becoming the "all-in-one" gadget, however one big gap that still exists is the inability to easily make purchases directly through the device instead of using cash or credit cards. According to the WSJ  and "people familiar with the matter", Google is working with MasterCard and Citigroup to fill this void by using the still nascent NFC (near field  communication) technology to develop a new mobile payment service.

The 2011 Formula One season is set to start this Sunday, and what better way to kick it off than with the introduction of the official F1 timing app for Android.

There have been a number of F1 apps available in the Android Market, however they have all had their shortcomings. Some have been slow, some have prematurely crashed, some have had cumbersome and ugly interfaces, and some just plain did not work.

What better way for Sony to promote its newest line of Xperia Arc smartphones than by hiring the little (big) green robot to dance? This Android has some pretty slick dance moves, giving a whole new meaning to the phrase "doing the robot".

Sprint is leaking like a sieve this week. Just yesterday a search result revealed the Nexus S 4G shortly before its release and today two registration pages popped up on the Sprint website with images of the yet to be announced HTC EVO 3D and the HTC EVO View 4G Tablet.

abp

Blocking obnoxious ads while browsing the web is something that I believe should come built-in to all browsers, or at least those on mobile devices with limited bandwidth. Although the beta version of Firefox 4 for Android (aka Fennec) released some time back, it was only yesterday that Adblock Plus released a development build for its seminal ad-blocking extension for the mobile version of Firefox.

According to the Adblock Plus devs, everything seems to be working smoothly, save for the following:

  • do-not-track support is not working; and
  • the number of synchronous requests needs to be reduced (on the to-do list)

Unfortunately, the user interface of ABP on the mobile version of Firefox is quite limited as you are only able to subscribe to one filter at a time.
