MEIZU MX Quad-Core Release Date And Price Officially Announced: Landing in China And Hong Kong In June From $475

Chinese phone manufacturer MEIZU revealed the first MX way back in September, noting that both a dual-core and quad-core version of the phone would be coming. The dual-core model came first, and was released on October 1. Today, they've officially announced that the quad-core model will hit stores in China and Hong Kong sometime in June.

While the phone looks virtually identical on the outside, it's (obviously) powered by twice the cores. While it's not the first quad-core phone we've seen, it is the first to be powered by something other than a Tegra 3 CPU. Instead, it sports an Exynos A9 CPU at 32nm.

Let's be honest: Android tablets didn't really get off to a great (or timely) start. After the iPad was introduced, Samsung rushed the original Galaxy Tab 7 out the door as a response, and while it wasn't bad on its own merit, it came nowhere close to the iPad. In fact, it took over 4 months from the time the Tab 7 was released until the XOOM - the first real Android tablet contender - hit the scene (it was 3 more months until the Galaxy Tab 10.1 was released).

Verizon Announces Minor Software Update (v4.5.621) For Motorola Droid 2, Brings Various Improvements And Fixes

Last night, Verizon updated their Droid 2 support page to announce a new update (v4.5.621) is coming soon rolling out now. While it doesn't bring anything major (*cough* Android updates *cough*), it does bring a few significant bug fixes and improvements:

LG Viper 4G Now Officially Available For Pre-Order From Sprint, Gets You LTE And A Dual-Core CPU For $100

While it may not be as exciting as the other hotly-anticipated phone coming to Sprint any day now, the budget-conscientious Viper packs some respectable specs for its class, and carries the distinction of being Sprint's first LTE phone:

Lenovo Introduces IdeaTab S2109 Tablet: Ice Cream Sandwich, 9.7" 4:3 Screen, And 8.9mm Thin

About a month ago, we saw Lenovo's previously unknown IdeaTab S2109 hit the FCC, providing a glimpse of little more than the company's new 4:3 tablet. At the time, Engadget's tipster claimed it sported a 9.7", 4:3 IPS display, TI OMAP chip, four speakers, and microSD. Turns out they were on point with all of that (though not about the March launch date, obviously), and today, the company has released an official reveal video for the tablet.

Comes with unibody shell and gunmetal finish. It's 8.9mm thin, has an IPS display for a wider viewing angle and has a 1.3 Megapixel front camera for clearer video conferencing.

Samsung Files Trademarks For 3 New Galaxy Smartphones: Sire, Lift, And Perx

The folks over at Fusible have discovered that Samsung has filed a trademark with the US PTO for three new names: Galaxy Sire, Galaxy Perx, and Galaxy Lift. While we don't have any details yet, we do know that we're looking at phones and not tablets - the trademarks were filed under the "Mobile phones; Smartphones" category.

Given the names, I'd guess we're looking at carrier-branded versions of the same device. I'm really hoping these are budget phones and not the SGSIII, as "Sire," "Perx," and "Lift," certainly don't strike me as flagship names. What do you think?

CyanogenMod 9 Nightlies Drop For Sony Xperia Arc And Neo

CyanogenMod (CM) has long been the modding community's custom ROM of choice, and for good reason: it takes the goodness that is basic Android (AOSP) and adds a hearty dose of all-around improvement. The list of devices supported by CM is quite a long and impressive one (truth be told, they do a better job of supporting devices than the manufacturers do), and last night, cutting-edge nightly CM9 releases dropped for the Sony Xperia Arc (Anzu) and Xperia Neo (Hallon).

Definition: A "nightly" is a bleeding edge release that is built on a daily basis, usually at night after a full day's worth of new code has been committed.
