Chameleon Launcher v2 Now In The Play Store For Everyone, Also A New Cheaper Phone-Only Version

If you've been chomping at the bit to get your hands on the Chameleon update that Kickstarter backers saw earlier this month, the wait is finally over. Released just a little while ago, v2 is now available to the public.

This updated version of the radical take on Android's launcher brings support for folders and linked folders, app launcher widgets, updates to most of the stock Chameleon widgets, and a bunch of overall performance improvements. This is also the first version to support phones, a feature that has been long-requested by lovers of the launcher.

For those who only want the phone version of Chameleon, the team decided to release a more affordable version ($2.91) which provides just that.

Chameleon Launcher 2.0 Brings Phone Optimization, Multiple Home Screens, Widget Enhancements To Kickstarter Backers

In a post to its official blog today, the team behind Chameleon Launcher announced version 2.0, which simultaneously hit the Play Store. The update, which is – for now – only available to Kickstarter backers and pre-order customers, brings a handful of popularly requested features. Perhaps the biggest of these is optimization for the small screen. Yes, Chameleon is now specifically optimized to work on your smartphone as well as it does on your tablet.

As part of the optimization (which supports screen resolutions of 720x1280 and up), Chameleon has gained the ability to hold multiple home screens in each context.

Now, I know what you're thinking: Seriously? A tablet just for tweens? I'm not going to lie - I, too, was skeptical of the usefulness of another specialty tablet for kids. And then I read the specs, looked at the pictures, and caught the price. I changed my mind almost immediately - this thing is seriously impressive.

When Chameleon Launcher first hit the scene with promises of a "new Android homescreen," people were excited. As we started to see more and more of this unique launcher, excitement continued to grow. Then we finally got our hands on it, and well - it wasn't what we hoped for. iMpulse Bluetooth Controller Kickstarter Updated With D-Pad, Shoulder Buttons And A 20% Thinner Housing

Good news for old-school gamers on the go: the latest update from the iMpulse Bluetooth controller has added quite a bit of features, making it more attractive than ever. The creators of the Kickstarter project released a new design render, showing off a switch from a PlayStation Portable-style analog stick to a more conventional D-pad, which should work better for a wider variety of games. They've also added two "shoulder" buttons (actually on the back of the tiny device) for more flexibility, and the housing has been slimmed down, making the iMpulse look considerably less like a brick. This should give just about the same level of control, if not comfort, as the much-loved SNES gamepad.

[Update: It's Live] Chameleon Launcher Teases v1.1, Finally Bringing Support For Stock Android Widgets

It's been about two weeks since Chameleon Launcher released the v1 into the Play Store, and the company has been working hard to bring new features and widgets to the app. They just published a blog post highlighting a few things to expect in the upcoming 1.1 release, including a Google+ widget and super-sexy GCal widget:

That's not the big news here, though. They also uploaded a new teaser video showing off one of the most requested features: support for stock Android widgets! That's right, once v1.1 is live, you'll be able to use all of your existing widgets inside of Chameleon.
