OneLouder Apps' 1Weather Hits v2, Brings New UI, Tablet Support, Android 4.2 Lock Screen Widgets, And More

Almost one year ago to the day, OneLounder released what is still one of my favorite weather apps: 1Weather. It's a fantastic looking app that delivers useful information about the weather conditions in your area, both current and extended. And, as of today, the app has been updated to v2, which brings a handful of new features to this already-fantastic app:

  • Tablet support
  • Refined UI
  • Optimized radar section
  • Added map pin
  • Improved ongoing notifications
  • Lock Screen widgets

The tablet layout is both intuitive and informative, highlighting the most pertinent information on the main screen: current temp, wind speed, humidity, hourly forecast, and more.

There's no shortage of weather apps in the Android Market - they're all pretty useful and give basically the same information. So how do you make one that stands out? If you ask OneLouder Apps, the same guys behind apps like Tweetcaster, Friendcaster, and BaconReader, they'd tell you to make it one of the most visually stunning apps in the Android Market. And that's exactly what they've done.

10 Cool Android Weather Apps With Hot Material Design, Clear Simplicity, Stormy Details, Or Warm Social Elements

Weather apps. If one app category gets its own entire section in the Play Store, you should surmise that the choices are beyond wide and the selection is almost impossible. Even browsing the category is a daunting minefield of Froyo-stuck designs and mediocre data and options. So why bother with a third-party weather client, especially when Google Now has its own weather card, Android comes with a News & Weather app, and a simple Google search for the name of your city with the word weather turns up the result you're looking for?

The 28 Best Android Wear Apps And Watch Faces Since Wear Launched

Android Wear has only been out for a few weeks, but already developers are trying their hands at designing apps for Google's wearable platform. This is the first installment of what will hopefully become a regular part of our roundups – all the best apps and watch faces for Android Wear.

Wearable Widgets v2.0 Adds Support For Android Wear, Can Send Any Widget To Your Watch

Google designed Android Wear around Google Now and notifications, but developers are hard at work extending additional functionality. One such effort is Wearable Widgets, which just added support for Wear in v2.0. It was previously only for Glass and the Sony Smartwatch. Basically, it sends a widget from your phone to your watch.

Android Wear App Section Added To The Google Play Store, Including A Ton Of Updated Apps [Update: 10 More]

It's raining wearable apps. After Google, Delta, Duolingo, and IFTTT updated their apps with Android Wear functions, it looks like the floodgates have opened. The Google Play Store now has a page dedicated to apps that include support for Wear, including Google's own apps and the ones we've already covered. The page is propagating through the Play Store right now, so you might not be able to see it quite yet.

Sprint Buys Handmark Inc. And Its Subsidiary OneLouder Apps, Will Merge Both Teams With Its Pinsight Media+ Advertising Service

We've long been fans of OneLouder apps here at Android Police, so it comes as a bit of a shock to see that the company was purchased – along with its parent company, Handmark Inc. – by Sprint. For those who may be unfamiliar with the name OneLouder, the dev team is responsible for apps like 1Weather, Friendcaster, and TweetCaster, just to name a few. Handmark, on the other hand, is more of an all-in-one app store for Android, BlackBerry, Windows Phone/Mobile, Palm, and the like.

[Hands-On] Weather Flow (From The Creators Of Cocktail Flow) Is The New Prettiest Weather App Of The Moment

If you've ever used the app Cocktail Flow by Distinction Ltd, you know that they take design and aesthetics seriously. Their new (and only second) app, Weather Flow, continues that trend and delivers what I believe is the best-looking weather experience on Android to date. And it's not hard to see why:

And if you don't like pretty pictures of wheat fields and idyllic dirt country roads, there's an alternative theme in Weather flow that I actually prefer:

You get a bit more information (the hourly forecast and daily forecast are both displayed simultaneously), and that beautiful ICS-style theming and color scheme.
