Android Oreo feature spotlight: Task Snapshots allow for higher quality, more accurate overview thumbnails

After months of living with the developer preview, we've got a pretty good handle on what's in Android 8.0 Oreo. Still, some surprises are lurking inside. For example, the use of so-called "Task Snapshots" in Android 8.0 means your overview thumbnails will look better, use less memory, and actually represent what you see upon returning to an app.

LastPass launches public beta with support for Oreo's autofill API

One of the more exciting features in Android 8.0 is support for autofill providers; apps that can drop in your username and password without a bunch of clunky workarounds. The catch, however, is that apps need to be updated with this feature in mind. LastPass is already readying Oreo support, and you can check it out now in the new public beta.

Microsoft Office Lens updated with ability to scan multiple images

Like many of Microsoft's apps, Office Lens displayed some cool technology at launch but was lacking in features. With today's update, Microsoft is addressing one very obvious shortcoming of the app. You can now capture multiple items at once and merge them into a single document.

Hell has officially frozen over, Taito just released a premium Bust-A-Move game on the Play Store

I thought I would never see the day. There's an official Bust-A-Move game from Taito Corporation on the Play Store, and it's a premium release. While some of you may know the franchise by its Japanese name Puzzle Bobble, this classic bubble shooter is better known in the west as Bust-A-Move. And while I'm sure absolutely no one has asked for yet another bubble shooter to be released on the Play Store, trust me when I say that this series is the originator of such gameplay and it's the best.

Exclusive: Google plans to launch a new Chromebook Pixel, mini version of Google Home alongside new phones

According to a source familiar with the company's plans, Google will launch not just two new Google Pixel phones at a hardware event this fall, but an all-new Pixel-branded Chromebook - the first since the 2015 Chromebook Pixel pictured above - as well as a miniaturized version of its Google Home smart speaker.

At this time, we don't have any specifications for this laptop. However, it seems likely that it was born out of Google's mysterious Project Bison, which we exclusively detailed last year (and, at the time, was scheduled for a Q3 2017 launch). The big difference? Our source is confident that this Pixel will be branded a Chromebook, while Project Bison was originally intended to run a highly-modified version of Android known internally as Andromeda.

Android 8.0 OTAs are starting to roll out to devices in the beta program [Update]

Google released final system images of Android 8.o earlier today, and now OTAs are starting to roll out. Although, I'm placing strong emphasis on "starting." The first wave of OTAs are targeting devices in the Android beta program, but already there have been reports of failed installations on certain phones. That's a Google launch for you.

Android 8.0 Oreo system images are live for the Pixel, Pixel XL, Nexus 5X, Nexus 6P, Pixel C, and Nexus Player

Google just took the wraps off Android 8.0 Oreo, which we've known only as Android O for the last few months. The source code is being pushed to AOSP today, but OTA updates are still in process. The system images are live right this minute, though. If you've got a compatible device and an unlocked bootloader, you can be on Android Oreo in just a few minutes.

Google steps up its Android statue game with the Super Oreo Bugdroid

Google's last couple of Android statues have been thoroughly underwhelming. David was so incensed by the lack of effort that went into 'Bugdroid holding a marshmallow' and 'Bugdroid surrounded by 3 bits of nougat' that he even wrote an article lamenting them. Someone at Google must have been reading because Android 8.0 Oreo's statue is the most impressive for some time: a moving robotic Super Oreo-themed Bugdroid, no less.
