Smart home setups can become complicated very quickly. Most connected devices need a hub, which then is controlled by an app or a smart speaker (like the Google Home or Amazon Echo). To make matters more complicated, not all of them use the same kind of hub, and home security systems usually use entirely different equipment.

Abode Systems is trying to fix this confusion with its new "iota" security system. Not only is it a 1080p security camera, but it also functions as a ZigBee/Z-Wave/Abode RF smart home hub. You can also control it with either Alexa or Google Assistant, and IFTTT support is included. It's very similar to the Toshiba Symbio, except that system also works as a smart speaker with Alexa.

According to the company's site, up to three days of footage is stored in the cloud for free, but for $10/month you can extend that to 14 days (plus it will use a 4G/LTE data connection to back up if your home internet goes down).

Abode says the iota will be available in the first quarter of this year, and will cost $329. More information is available here.
