Three months ago, ASUS promised to update the ZenFone 3 product line to ZenUI 4.0: a trimmed down, more minimal version of the company's software. They started with the ZenFone 3 Zoom at the same time as that announcement, and just recently the ZenFone 4 Max got it. Three months later, its forebear the ZenFone 3 Max is able to join the fun. The update will be rolling out over the next week.

The release notes for this update are incredibly short, but nonetheless, we've included them just below:

Release Notes

  • Update version: V14.0200.1712.347
  • Release Date: December 20, 2017
  • Upgrade system user interface to ZenUI 4.0

Changes in ZenUI include duplicate app installation, a new Game Genie mode for increased performance and macro creation, an "AI-powered" gallery app, and a visual redesign, among other features. For the full skinny on ZenUI 4.0, you can check out ASUS' introduction to the subject.

The update should be rolling out over the course of the next week. Although ASUS has included instructions to check for the update manually, it may not be appearing for everyone just yet.
