After the last few weeks of leaks, it has finally been announced. Samsung's new Galaxy S8 Active will be available for pre-order tomorrow, August 8th, as a limited-time exclusive for AT&T. In-store availability for AT&T will start this upcoming Friday, August 11th. If you are interested, try to keep your current phone dry until then. The Galaxy S8 Active will run you $28.34 a month for 30 months via AT&T Next®.

We're all familiar with the basic idea of Samsung's Active line, but it's worth going over the features again. As the name suggests, it's a rugged phone built to handle more wear and extreme environments. Designed for durability, the Galaxy S8 Active has a metal frame and bumper clad in military-grade materials, making it water-resistant in up to 5 feet of water for up to 30 minutes and shatter-resistant on drops of up to 5 feet on flat surfaces. Basically, it's a phone taken to design extremes.

Specs still aren't officially listed, but we have a good idea what will be included based on previous leaks, and it is very similar to the S8. You get a Qualcomm Snapdragon 835, 5.8" AMOLED display at 2960 x 1440, 64GB of storage with microSD expansion, 4GB RAM, and a 4,000mAh battery. For cameras, you get a primary 12MP f1.7 dual-pixel on the aft and an 8MP f1.7 on the fore. You get Bluetooth 5.1, wireless charging, Samsung Pay, and all the other little things you'd expect from the Galaxy S8. Unfortunately, it only ships with Android 7.0 Nougat, like the Galaxy S8.

It will be available, at least to start, in both "Meteor Gray" and "Titanium Gold."

AT&T is also running a few promotions for the new device when purchased via AT&T Next®. If you pick one up for a new line and you add DIRECTV to your plan, you can get another Samsung Galaxy phone free and a $500 discount towards a Samsung TV. You can also add a Gear S2 or a Gear S3 for $1 or $99, respectively, on a 2-year contract with AT&T Next®, and you can even get up to $200 in credits when you trade in an eligible smartphone. If you do take advantage of one of these AT&T Next® promotions, the Galaxy S8 Active will run you $28.34 over 30 months.

The Galaxy S8 Active also supports AT&T's so-called "5G Evolution" tech, which is really just 4G LTE at good speeds via carrier aggregation, MIMO, and other LTE Advanced features. It might not actually be 5G, but at least users in some markets will see high speeds.

Tomorrow future or current AT&T subscribers will be able to pre-order the phone here, but that link won't be live until then.
