Samorost 3

Android Police coverage: Amanita Design (maker of Machinarium) releases Samorost 3 in the Play Store

Samorost is a franchise that's now over ten years old, but the third entry is the first one to come to Android. It's an adventure game in the strictest sense, but players will hardly care about the puzzles when they're busy drinking in the gorgeous hand-drawn visuals. The game is practically an art and animation gallery. There's a plot and a few obstacles in place, but it's first and foremost a feast for the eyes. And at $5 with no in-app purchases (one quarter of the Steam price), it's a cheap feast at that.

Samorost 3 is an exploration adventure and puzzle game from the award-winning creators of Machinarium and Botanicula. It is Amanita Design’s most ambitious experience to date and a loose continuation of the hit indie games Samorost and Samorost 2. Samorost 3 follows a curious space gnome who uses the powers of a magic flute to travel across the cosmos in search of its mysterious origins. Visit nine unique and alien worlds teeming with colorful challenges, creatures and surprises to discover, brought to life with beautiful artwork, sound and music.

Kathy Rain

Android Police coverage: Kathy Rain brings an original detective story wrapped in an old-school adventure game format

Kathy Rain is a love letter to the point-and-click adventure games of the 1990s. The story follows a young woman investigating the death of her grandfather, quickly spiraling into a mystery. Graphics are pure retro, right down to the 4:3 aspect ratio to match classic Sierra games. Thankfully full voice acting is included, and players get the phone game for just $5 (only a third of the price of the Steam version). It's just too bad it isn't compatible with Android TV.

Kathy Rain tells the story of a strong-willed journalism major who has to come to terms with her own troubled past as she investigates the mysterious death of her recently deceased grandfather. Armed with her motorcycle, a pack of cigs, and a notepad, Kathy begins to delve into a local mystery surrounding her hometown that will take her on a harrowing journey full of emotional and personal turmoil.

Human Resource Machine

Android Police coverage: Puzzle game Human Resource Machine lets players program their own corporate drones

Human Resource Machine is equal parts corporate satire and programming puzzle. Players have to use coding-style commands to make their tiny bobble-headed characters perform each level's specific instructions. This Steam port has a grim, biting sense of humor, but underneath is a surprisingly streamlined mechanic that uses real programming techniques. It's $5 with no in-app purchases.

Program little office workers to solve puzzles. Be a good employee. The machines are coming... for your job. Human Resource Machine is a puzzle game for nerds. In each level, your boss gives you a job. Automate it by programming your little office worker. If you succeed, you'll be promoted up to the next level for another year of work in the vast office building. Congratulations. Don't worry if you've never programmed before - programming is just puzzle solving.

Little Briar Rose

Android Police coverage: Little Briar Rose offers a Grimm adventure with gorgeous stained glass visuals

Little Briar Rose, an adventure game modelled after the titular Grimm fairy tale, is one of the most visually striking titles to appear on Android this year. The 2D graphics look like a stained glass window in motion, sort of like players are navigating through the opening sequence of Disney's Beauty and the Beast. It's a charming little side-scroller, and at $2.50 with no in-app purchases, it's also a steal.

An ancient legend, a cursed castle surrounded by brambles, a forest inhabited by funny enchanted creatures and a sweet princess sleeping in it. And, obviously, a fearless prince. This is what Little Briar Rose is made out of. In this particular stained glass-styled graphic adventure the player will help a whole dynasty of princes complete their quest. Be careful though, many will try, but only one shall prevail.

DISTRAINT: Pocket Pixel Horror

Android Police coverage: 2D psychological horror game DISTRAINT jumps from Steam to the Play Store

DISTRAINT is a cute little horror game that first came out on Steam. (Can you call a horror game "cute?" Well I just did.) You play as Price, a would-be real estate developer who gets some much-needed comeuppance in the form of psychological creepiness. The 2D side-scrolling setup seems like it's ripe for platforming, but the structure is actually more like an adventure game. DISTRAINT is free with a $1.50 option to remove advertising.

DISTRAINT: Pocket Pixel Horror is a 2D psychological horror adventure game which was made with the same engine (Clickteam Fusion 2.5) as the famous Five Nights At Freddy's games. Right, so you're thinking if you would enjoy this little horror story? What makes DISTRAINT: Pocket Pixel Horror different than other horror games out there? That's a good question, I'd love to tell you more about the game and its atmosphere.

F1 2016

Android Police overage: Codemasters ports racing simulator F1 2016 from consoles to Android

Codemasters has a big fan following for its racing titles on the PC and consoles, so its first mobile racing game is definitely notable. If only this reworked version of F1 2016 wasn't so, well, ordinary. Though it has all the licensed teams and tracks and most of the drivers from the real-world Formula One season, it lacks basic racing features like multiplayer or Bluetooth controller compatibility. Those are big misses for a $10 game.

F1 2016 is a stunning mobile racing game that puts players into the race seat of their FORMULA ONE™ heroes in a full season, single race and time trial on any of the 21 official circuits from the 2016 season.Take on the world’s greatest drivers including MERCEDES AMG PETRONAS Formula One Team’s Lewis Hamilton, Scuderia Ferrari’s Sebastian Vettel, Red Bull Racing’s Max Verstappen, McLaren-Honda’s Fernando Alonso and Sahara Force India F1 Team’s Sergio Perez and many more, with 22 of the world’s greatest drivers and the 11 teams from the 2016 season represented.

MLB.com Home Run Derby VR

Android Police coverage: MLB.com makes an extremely disorienting Daydream VR version of Home Run Derby

Google's Daydream platform presents a huge opportunity for VR gaming, but the first licensed baseball game to actually land on it is less than promising. The Home Run Derby setup is fairly obvious, and it includes the likenesses of pro players and famous stadiums. But recycled visual assets, disorienting motion controls, and disturbing player models keep a lot of the fun in check. The game is $5 with $2 in-app purchases, if you can get past the tutorial.

Swing for the fences in the first-ever official Home Run Derby VR game presented by Major League Baseball and the MLBPA. 360 degree perspective puts you in the cleats of the world's greatest sluggers as you take in the view of MLB's most iconic ballparks. Feel the speed and power of this All-Star lineup as you send ball out of the park. The competition comes alive in our unparalleled 3-D environments. Responsive controls provide an intuitive, natural and realistic feel at bat.

Microsoft Solitaire Collection

Android Police coverage: Microsoft Solitaire Collection now available for Android, in all its ad-supported glory

Solitaire fans were more than a bit miffed when Microsoft decided to stuff the classic bit of freeware with ads for its Windows 10 debut. Something tells me they won't be any more likely to spend money to banish the advertising, even if it is available on their phones. The price for an ad-free experience is $2 per month or $10 a year, but for the love of frugality, don't actually pay it.

For over 25 years, Microsoft Solitaire Collection remains one of the most played games of all time and is now available FREE for your Android device. The Microsoft Solitaire Collection offers FIVE of the best Solitaire card games in one app. KLONDIKE Timeless & Classic Solitaire. Clear all the cards from the table using one or three-card draw. Also try out Traditional or Vegas scoring. SPIDER Eight columns of cards await you. Clear them all with fewest moves possible.

Re-Volt3

Android Police coverage: Re-Volt3 hits the Play Store with frantic, competitive RC racing

Re-Volt is one of those middling games that has a lot of fans of the older editions, but not quite enough to elevate it to "classic" status. The RC racer is back for a third entry on mobile, with the miniature vehicles and themed tracks intact. This time around there's a full single player story mode, 50 different cars, real-time online multiplayer, and an upgrade system. It's a shame the developers heeded the siren call of mobile free-to-play - in-app purchases for currency go up to a whopping $105.

Thrilling and Exciting.! Experience the new generation of the legendary RC car racing game Re-Volt3.

  • Over 50 realistic RC cars such as Buggies, Monster Trucks, and Race Cars.

Battleship Lonewolf: Space TD

Space doesn't seem like a logical place for tower defense, if only because enemies could just fly around on the Z-axis. Battleship Lonewolf solves this in two ways: one, its gameplay is in 2D, and two, the "towers" on which you perform your defense are in fact guns on your gigantic space battleship. A huge variety of weapons, upgrades, and enemies await players in ten story missions, with a survival mode for more replay. Battleship Lonewolf is $3 with no in-app purchases.

Flight through space, command your ship, and wage epic war in galaxy. FLIGHT THROUGH SPACE: Deploy the space battleship Lone Wolf to wage epic war in space. ARM AND UPGRADE YOUR SHIP: Strategic formation of physical and optical weapons in addition to various turrets and active skills. BATTLE DIEVERSE ENEMIES: Conflict never ends. Continue your journey not only in mission but also in survival mode.

ecotone Pocket

Despite the title, this isn't a mobile version of the atmospheric platformer Ecotone, currently available on Steam. No, this free, ad-supported Android game is more of a spin-off, a la Rayman Jungle Run. It's an auto-runner that uses the same characters and art as the spooky desktop game, along with some of the more tricky elements like reversed gravity or character duplicates. Check it out if you've played the full version and want a little more from that game's world.

Discover the world of ecotone, with strange creatures, unique soundtrack and mysterious dark smoke... Like in the original PC game (www.ecotonegame.com) every level offer a new gameplay, reversed gravity, changing size, or playing with a jellyfish are a few of them. Every level offer a unique challenge, but if you want more, you can try to get all the mask and unlock the bonus level...

Eisenhorn: XENOS

Eisenhorn: XENOS is the latest Android game to be set in the Warhammer 40,000 universe. Unlike the previous entries, this one is an adventure game set in the universe's deep and oppressive lore. The story follows an inquisitor for the Imperium, covering his exploits as they unfolded in the novel of the same name. Though the full 3D graphics are impressive (and require some high-power mobile hardware), the reception for Eisenhorn: XENOS on Steam was decidedly mixed, and early players are reporting frequent crashes.

‘Eisenhorn: XENOS' is an immersive, fully 3D adventure game, adapted from ‘Xenos', the first book in Games Workshop's best-selling ‘Eisenhorn' trilogy, written by award winning author Dan Abnett. Set in the grim, dark future of Warhammer 40,000 ‘Eisenhorn: XENOS' lets you experience firsthand the story of Gregor Eisenhorn, an Inquisitor and member of the ‘Ordo Xenos', sent out to fight and protect the Imperium of man from anything that may threaten it.

Where Shadows Slumber Demo

Here's a demo for an interesting little game that should be coming in more complete form soon. Where Shadows Slumber takes a lot of visual and gameplay inspiration from Monument Valley, but adds in its own twists with light and shadow-based puzzle mechanics. Shining light or blocking for darkness reveals new paths through the puzzle-like levels. The demo is free with no in-app purchases.

Where Shadows Slumber is a brooding puzzle game that takes place in a shadowy, abandoned world. You will aid the main character in his search for redemption - a search that spans numerous worlds and introduces you to a cast of mysterious figures. Who rules this forgotten land? And who will be left once the adventure draws to its inevitable conclusion?

Circularity

Circularity is a unique mix of puzzle and twitch elements. Players guide a ball through a level full of obstacles, traveling only in straight lines and stopping with a tap. Another tap starts a circular directional grid that has to be stopped at the right angle to continue progressing. The game is free with no in-app purchases at the moment, which isn't bad for a 15-level title with online leaderboards.

Challenge yourself to a game of skill, timing and precision. Circularity appeals to both casual and more dedicated gamers. Journey through 15 interesting and exciting levels using a simple navigation mechanic. Perfect time waster for your morning commutes. Get addicted as you race to the exit and attempt to get the best timing for each level. Compare your best times against the global leader board and vie for a spot on the leader board.

Colt Express

Colt Express is a digital translation of a board game about robbing an Old West passenger train. With gorgeous cartoon art and plenty of 2D and 3D animation it has a lot going for it over the physical version, plus single-player and online multiplayer to boot. Extras like character skins and a full story mode help flesh out the experience. $7 with no in-app purchases seems pretty reasonable, since the paper version is going for $50.

The game officially transposed from Colt Express, the famous train robbery boardgame. Plot your scheme step by step and dive into the action to loot the wagons. But watch out, you are not the only Most Wanted Man with the intention to become rich today : you might have to rethink your strategy…
Play solo, with friends, family and worldwide in multiplayer. At the beginning of the round, each player will successively plan an action from his action deck, ranging from moving around to luring the train marshal or looting the passengers.

Mythic

Everyone wants a slice of that lucrative competitive card game pie, but Halfbrick's newest entry to the genre has a surprising amount of originality. Mythic takes the collection and strategy elements of a game like Hearthstone and applies it to a tile board game - sort of like Stratego, but with a limited pool for moves instead of a one-by-one approach. The mechanics are complex - perhaps a bit too complex for a mobile game - but satisfying. Mythic is in early access now, with IAP that tops out at just a buck fifty.

Get out of your comfort zone, and enter the conflict zone as you face-off against rival players, in Halfbrick’s first ever Competitive Strategy Game. Experience an ever-changing battlefield which stretches the limits of your creative confines. Whether you love a challenge or fancy yourself a strategic genius; Mythic will enchant you. Call upon Thor as you stand against Loki. Counter the meticulous Medusa with the Egyptian beauty, Cleopatra. Whether it be Greek, Norse or Egyptian divines, we can promise, the Gods will clash.

Leap of Fate

Leap of Fate is a top-down shooter with a cyberpunk theme. Progression has a lot of RPG elements, but the gameplay is much faster and more frantic than that might imply. This is another Steam pilgrim, but it's clearly designed with mobile in mind as well. Levels are short and small, but the encapsulated nature of the environments is surprisingly effective. 3D graphics are appealing (assuming you're down with a Deus Ex-style world), and the $4 game has no in-app purchases.

Leap of Fate is a furiously-paced cyberpunk roguelike-rpg about overcoming your fears and achieving your fate. In a New York City where magic is real, you play as a technomage who must develop unspeakable powers to confront the Crucible of Fates. Can you survive the trials?

  • Experience an extremely fast and satisfying action game, built around the ability to Shadow Walk
  • Upgrade over a hundred magical skills, through an innovative system of randomly-generated skill trees
  • Discover the profound and intense stories of four characters, told through beautifully illustrated cinematics
  • Explore a modern-day cyberpunk fantasy spanning cybernetics labs, dark alleys and secret societies

Glitch Fixers: Powerpuff Girls

The new version of the Powerpuff Girls cartoon is reportedly pretty good, and the Turner/Cartoon Network mobile games are also fairly reliable. The latest one has a programming theme: each level is a static obstacle that needs to be overcome with pre-input commands, which the Girls then carry out in sequence. Commands can be adjusted or rerun for a higher score. It's an interesting (if not unique) approach, and the game is free with no in-app purchases.

The Internet is under attack. Learn the basics of computer programming as you battle monsters and solve puzzles with the Powerpuff Girls in Glitch Fixers. Bubbles uploaded Blossom and Buttercup to the Internet, but they don’t have their powers. Use simple coding commands, procedures, and loops to launch the girls into action. The Amoeba Boys have unleashed a mess of monsters onto the web. Time to call the Glitch Fixers. Take down mutant memes, Internet trolls, and spam bots before they ruin the Internet forever.

The Battle of Polytopia

From the top-down, isometric perspective, you might think that this is some kind of puzzle game. But instead it's something of a mix between Minecraft's exploration and crafting and the turn-based conquest of Civilization. The visual style gives the structure a new feeling, and procedurally-generated maps mean there's always something new to try. It's free with in-app purchases that top out at $3.

The Battle of Polytopia is a turn based strategic adventure. It's a game about ruling the world, fighting evil AI tribes, discovering new lands and mastering new technologies. Auto generated maps make each game a new experience, with unlimited replay value. Pick and choose among different tribes. Wander in the dark cold forests of Barduria, explore the steamy Kickoo jungles or claim the lush field of the Imperius empire.

Knight's Tour: Chess Puzzle

Knight's Tour is one of a new generation of chess games that focuses on individual piece movement rather than the two-player full set. Knight's Tour is a tile-based puzzle game that's all about the knight piece's distinctive L-shaped movement. Oddly-shaped stages and power-ups keep things varied, and "hundreds" of levels means you're unlikely to run out of challenges too. Multiplayer is available on the same device, and the game is free with $10 in-app purchases.

How good are you at solving chess puzzles? How about solving 100+ puzzles based on an ancient math problem? It's easy to find out by playing Knight's Tour, a head-scratching chess puzzle game that combines the complexity of a math problem with chess-like board & movements. Start your puzzling adventure and help a Knight collect all the coins to advance onto more difficult levels.

Spirit Rush

Spirit Rush is a zen game that owes a lot to Lisa Frank for its visual style. Your player character rides on a dragon, um, thing and floats around a 2D stage. Goals and obstacles are directional, sort of like a more basic version of Pilotwings, with a super-simple control scheme for steering and destroying enemies with a loop motion. It's free with in-app purchases that top out at just $3.

Below the canopy lives a mysterious forest, overtaken by mystical creatures. Climb atop your dragon and adventure through an endless flying voyage. Swoop to avoid enemies or surround them with your dragon's circle attack to destroy them and restore the world back to peace.

Nobodies

This unreleased game is about a former felon unraveling a shadowy government conspiracy, like an ex con version of Mulder. The setup is your standard point-and-click adventure, but it's light on characters and dialog- players have to explore a series of mostly static scenes to discover the truth behind an experimental cover-up. Nobodies is free to play with no in-app purchases, at least at the moment. Expect a few bugs in this early stage.

Mark grew up on his father’s small law firm. He graduated with honors from the law school and was later named director of the city’s most prominent newspaper. A promising future awaited him. Everything was fine, until one of his investigations interfered with a secret government plan. After discovering classified military information related to experimentation of biological weapons in humans, he is accused of treason and sentenced to 20 years in prison.

Mannequin Challenge

The Mannequin Challenge, if you're unaware, is a meme wherein people stay as still as possible. The point is to get as large a group as you can, so that a single camera operator can pan through the scene, Matrix-style. This game has you playing as said cameraman, tapping left or right to change direction. Hit a person or obstacle and the game is over. Why the meme itself is popular at all (or warrants a mobile game) is really beyond me - in my day kids did the Harlem Shake and dammit, we were happy.

Mannequin Challenge official game is finally here. Jump on your hoverboard and go on rolling and capturing the most exciting mannequins the world has ever seen. Collect coins to unlock new character to play with. Beat your scores and become the first among your friends.

The Revenge of Johnny Bonasera

The Revenge of Johnny Bonasera is an adventure title with the feel of a modern cartoon sitcom, cheap animation and all. The story is short and simple - you get beaten up by a punk and you'd very much like to beat him up in return. Humor is crude and direct, so if you like the Bob's Burgers style of dialogue, you might get a kick out of it. The game costs $3 with no in-app purchases, but there's also a demo version available.

This is the story of Johnny Bonasera, a kid that was beaten and humiliated by a gang punk. Fueled by an insatiable desire for revenge, Johnny Bonasera promises revenge against each of the punks who humbled him. One by one. Unscrupulous. Mercilessly.

• 2D HD graphics in TV cartoon style.
• An adventure full of hilarious dialogues and puzzles.
• Outlandish characters to talk, interact, humble, beat, insult...
• Texts in English, Spanish, Russian and Ukrainian.

Duck Hunter VR

Unfortunately this isn't a virtual reality version of the NES classic light gun game (though, Nintendo, you should definitely do that). Nope, it's more akin to the various big game hunting titles that have shown up on consoles for more than a decade. The Cardboard-compatible interface uses the gyroscope as a targeting reticle, and there are a few power-ups, but it's a fairly simple diversion. The game is free with no in-app purchases.

Duck Hunter VR puts you out on the lake, immersing you in the duck hunting experience. Look up and around to make sure you don’t miss any of them. This fast and fun, arcade game will have you striving to bag as many birds as possible and get a high score. Along with your trusty shotgun you’ll get power-ups that let you boost your score and roast ducks in mid air. Join in the fun for a quacking good time.

Postknight

These days we view postal workers as somewhat dull civil servants, but in the cutesy setting of Postknight, it's a noble and dangerous profession. The main game is an endless runner, but there are some interesting elements from more complex genres like crafting and equipment upgrades borrowed from RPGs - there's even a bit of dating sim thrown in the mix. It's in unreleased (beta) form for now, with IAP going up to $13.

Postknight reimagines the best parts of role-playing games into bite-sized bits within an exciting delivery adventure. The story follows the adventures of a Postknight — a knight who is tasked with difficult or dangerous deliveries — in the grand kingdom of Kurestal. Through deliveries, the postknight will meet other characters with different backgrounds while venturing across the kingdom of Kurestal and beyond.

Z Buster

Z Buster is an arcade-style turret shooter, with 3D environments and a fixed position. In other words, the player stays in place and shoots any shambling undead that pops up on the screen. The game is aware of its simplicity and makes up for it with a cartoonish visual style and a huge variety of weapons. A virtual joystick control scheme (as opposed to just Whack-A-Mole) is helpful, but $20 in-app purchases dampen the playful mood somewhat.

Get ready to meet and defeat legions of zombies all over the world at the end of days. Use a highly diverse arsenal of weapons - modern, laser, explosive and more - to take care of the hilariously dumb Z's before they bite you for good. Earn more and more bucks each given day to upgrade your weaponry and supercharge the power ups to have the greatest zombie busting time ever in your life.

Amateur Surgeon 4

Amateur Surgeon is back for another unethical bit of body horror. If you haven't played before, it's a bit like a digital version of Operation, with a twisted sense of humor and an increasingly insane cast of characters and maladies. The newest release includes more focused cartoon surgeries on specific body parts, plus new patients (including some things that aren't people in the strictest sense) and remastered levels from previous games. The game is free with $50 in-app purchases.

Perform Surgery on over 100 patients with household tools in Amateur Surgeon: Regenerations. It’s time to grab your trusty pizza cutter, and start the operation. Doctor Bleed, pioneer of amateur surgery, is back from the dead. Help him solve the mystery of his sudden resurrection as he spans the globe looking for answers, and saves some unwitting lives along the way.

NBA 2K17

Another year, another 2K basketball game. This one improves on last year with more teams in the European league, a "day off" simulator and more equipment options for career mode, new historical player likenesses, and alternate team uniforms. It still uses the free-to-play model with in-app purchases up to fifty bucks. Fans will play it just for the roster update, and why not?

Following the record-breaking launch of NBA 2K16, the NBA 2K franchise continues to stake its claim as the most authentic sports video game with NBA 2K17. As the franchise that “all sports video games should aspire to be” (GamesRadar), NBA 2K17 will take the game to new heights and continue to blur the lines between video game and reality.

Champions and Challengers

The latest game based on the Adventure Time franchise is an action-RPG with touch controls, sort of like a licensed version of Battleheart. Players take control of one or more of the leads from the cartoon and pit them against progressively harder opponents with stat-based tap and swipe attacks. Rounds are fast and fluid and there's a huge variety of Adventure Time characters plus online multiplayer, but in-app purchases up to $50 mean that eventually you'll hit the grind wall.

Challenge the Dice Lord to the ULTIMATE Adventure Time game. Prepare thyself for legendary freakin’ battles in Champions & Challengers. Play as the greatest heroes and villains from across the Adventure Time Multiverse. Team up with Finn, Jake, Princess Bubblegum, BMO, Fionna, Cake, Marceline, Young Billy, LSP, Farmworld Finn, and so many more. Command your team in real time. Develop a winning strategy to crush your opponents in tactical turn-based RPG combat.

Hopeless 3: Dark Hollow Earth

If you thought the monsters from the original Hopeless were disturbing, check out their upgrades in the series' third game. Hopeless 3 is unreleased (read: in beta) so far, but the switch from a twitch shooter to an endless runner brings a much-needed fresh perspective. There are new environments to check out and new monsters to cringe at... and unfortunately, in-app purchases that go up to $75.

The blobs are back with a vengeance. Join the ride in the 3rd chapter of the indie hit series, HOPELESS. Journey from the frigid poles to the center of the planet in an epic quest to rescue the remaining blobs. Unlock and collect an array of carts, cars, and tanks, and arm yourself with powerful guns to defeat the evil monsters. Experience the rich environment of the Hopeless world, from dark caves to icy planes. Upgrade your ride from one tiny cart with a pistol to a mighty war machine on wheels, ready to take on any challenge.

Solar Siege

Solar Siege is a tower defense game of sorts - it doesn't rely on the conventional lanes or hardpoints. Instead you control a central mining spaceship, building out support lines to gather resources and create new defensive clusters. It makes for a much more free-flowing approach to the genre, almost approaching real-time strategy if not for the encapsulated levels. It's an interesting take, but it's let down by IAP that goes up to $75.

You're the Commander of a Deep Space Mining Station. Construct defenses to protect your miners and harvest the riches of the cosmos. Managing your power network is crucial to sustain operations and defend with maximum effectiveness against an alien foe who want a piece of the galactic pie. From the team that brought you the award winning Sentinel sci-fi tower defense series comes the long awaited successor to Space Station: Frontier.

PigBang

PigBang is a MOBA in the format (if not the style) of games like League of Legends. But instead of a mouse click-fest, PigBang controls like a twin-stick shooter with a few extra buttons to activate your hero's abilities. Multiplayer online team battles play out in cartoony fashion with upgradeable weapons and abilities. At the moment it's unreleased (beta), but even so there are in-app purchases that go up to $100... which is pretty typical for the MOBA genre.

Looking for a dynamic Mobile Online Arena Shooter that fits in the palm of your hand and isn’t a boar? Want fun, fast-paced online action with friends where the servers don’t turn to hogwash? Introducing PigBang. Build, shoot, and command troops using convenient, seamless controls and watch battles unfold in glorious Unity-designed graphics. If you’re not playing today, you’re bacon a mistake.

Knight Slinger

Knight Slinger is a mix between conventional RPG elements and a stylized version of pinball. Attacks and spells are unlocked with a pull-and-release motion in the style of Angry Birds. It's an interesting take, though a bit simplistic - while the game claims 500 character members to choose from in your party, there are only six classes. This one comes from Gamevil, so of course it's free with $100 in-app purchases... which might make the online multiplayer a bit imbalanced.

Goddess Odelia declares a war to vanquish the blessed land--Oratoria. To put an end to the mayhem, Goddess Moira assembles a legion of knights and makes her way to the front line.

Post Brutal

Post Brutal is a 3D action game, in the style of the PS2 era of KTA games but taking place in a Walking Dead-style post-apocalyptic setting. The format is ambitious for a mobile game, with full combat and RPG-style story progression, even if the 3D graphics aren't anything to write home about. That premium single-player, character-focused setup is admirable... but the $112 in-app purchases can't help but be a huge downer. Note that this one is rated M.

Post Brutal is a 3D action RPG experience that puts you at the centre of the zombie apocalypse. Enter the quarantine of City Zero and band together with other survivors struggling to survive in the aftermath of The Event, the cataclysm that drove over half the city's population into a feral frenzy.

• Give your character your own face in the game, with FaceRoom
• Record your own voice for in game conversation, with VoiceRoom

• Fast paced, gore soaked action
• Use Adrenaline Rush to slow time
• Assemble an arsenal of over 28 diverse weapons (and growing.)
• Switch between ranged and melee combat with ease
• Your choice of armaments allow for tactical, diverse battles

Soldiers Inc: Mobile Warfare

War. War never changes... and neither do Clash of Clans clones. These sort of multiplayer base-building games have become less frequent of late, but they don't have any real new ideas, despite the quite advanced 3D graphics on display in Soldiers, Inc. Bases and units are still upgraded on a grind system, attack and defense is still largely a matter of who has the most money and/or friends, and it's still built to not-quite-force in-app purchases of up to $100.

Step into the next generation of MMO strategy in Soldiers Inc: Mobile Warfare. Train your troops, build your base and command an army against your enemies. Conquer Black Sites and outposts full of resources, and team up with friends to take total control of the battlefield. The year is 2037, and the evil Phoenix Corporation has taken control of Selva De Fuego - the world’s only source of a new lifesaving serum. The world has declared war on Phoenix, giving every private military and mercenary force a green light to invade Selva De Fuego and do whatever it takes to crush the rogue corporation.

Gear.Club

Gear.club is a semi-realistic racing game in the vein of Gran Turismo or Forza, with a surprising amount of polish for the real-life licensed cars. The interface and tracks are more sim than racer (even if the mobile controls don't allow for too much difficulty), and there's a huge focus on car customization with various enthusiast parts and upgrades. This game would be much higher on this list if it wasn't (waaaaait for it) for the frankly insane in-app purchases that go up to $370. Jesus tap-dancing Christ!

Gear.Club is much more than a quick adrenaline rush; it is an authentic world of cars. Realistic driving experience, with fully simulated engines, powertrains, suspensions and aerodynamics. You will get to explore breathtaking settings and compete live with your online friends and foes through unlimited races, championships and events. Gear.Club offers a full range of options for the cars. Players can collect, upgrade and customize some of the most gorgeous exotic vehicles in their performance shop and enjoy details including engine and interiors in full HD.

We're Going on a Bear Hunt

This stylish kids game based on a popular picture book takes the approach that many similar games do, with a collection of simple mini-games. That said, the 3D graphics are surprisingly sharp and fluid, and while the games themselves probably won't hold the attention of adults, they're varied enough to justify the $3.50 price tag. There are no in-app purchases for kids to find, which is something we always like to see in games for children.

The brand new and official game of ‘We’re Going on a Bear Hunt’, based on the award-winning book by Michael Rosen and Helen Oxenbury and animated film by Lupus Films. Now it’s your turn to join in the fun. Play as either Rosie or Max as you swish through the grass, splash through the river and squelch through the mud on the children’s exciting search of a bear. You can’t go over it, you can’t go under it so you’ll have to go through the big dark on your hunt, but what will you find inside the narrow gloomy cave?
