The end of the year is always important for consumer electronics, since people buy their loved ones an expensive new phone or tablet for the holidays. Therefore, HTC has released some new mid-range phones that it thinks will make people say "Can you buy me one of those new HTCs?"

The Desire 10 series looks reasonable enough. It's split into a pair of devices - the Pro and the Lifestyle. As you can probably guess from the names, the Pro has the better specs, but for all intents and purposes the two basically look the same. The Pro has a MediaTek processor while the Lifestyle is packing a Snapdragon 400, with the former having 3/4GB RAM and 32/64GB storage and the latter 2/3GB and 16/32GB, plus microSD support up to 2TB on both devices. The screens seem respectable on both, although the 720p 5.5-inch display on the Lifestyle may be a little low-res for some, at least compared to the Pro's 1080p 5.5-inch screen. Cameras also seem like they should be pretty good, but of course this is something HTC has focused on in the past - 20MP rear and 13MP front for the Pro, 13MP rear and 5MP front for the Lifestyle should produce good images on both devices. The front-facing cameras also can take wide-angle selfie shots that HTC has named 'selfie panorama,' which might be attractive to some.

As you can see, the phones look almost identical. On the left is the Lifestyle, on the right is the Pro.

Otherwise things are fairly standard. Both will launch with Android 6.0 Marshmallow and HTC Sense, and the Pro has an 'ultra-fast' fingerprint sensor. The capacity is a little smaller on the Lifestyle, 2700mAh compared to 3000mAh, but hopefully battery life won't suffer too much.

The Lifestyle will be available at the end of September, while the Pro is scheduled for the beginning of November. Both phones will be available in four colours; Polar White, Stone Black, Valentine Lux, and Royal Blue. There doesn't seem to be any information on pricing just yet, but if we hear anything we'll let you know.
