The popular calendar app Sunrise was supposed to shut down permanently yesterday, but that didn't happen. Microsoft now says it has decided to hold off on killing Sunrise while it works to integrate more Sunrise features into the Outlook app. That doesn't mean Sunrise is alive and well, but it's not dead at least.

Microsoft bought Sunrise in early 2015, which sent a shiver up the spine of Sunrise's fans. Sure enough, Microsoft announced in late 2015 that it was retiring Sunrise. Its features would be rolled into the new Outlook app and Sunrise would eventually stop working entirely. Back in May, Microsoft announced the end-of-life date for Sunrise was August 31st.

Those still clinging to the app might have noticed that it still works today. Microsoft provided a statement on the situation to PC World.

[W]e have chosen to wait a little longer in order to deliver a few more Sunrise-inspired features in Outlook. Once those features are released, the Sunrise app will officially be shut down.

So, Sunrise gets a temporary reprieve. We don't know how long that will last, but the app has already been unpublished from the Play Store. If you already have it (or grab it from APK Mirror) it will continue to work for a bit longer.
