The Nest Cam keeps an eye on what's going on in your home. That can be creepy when you're home, but it can bring peace of mind when you're away. On the downside, the Nest Cam isn't weatherproof. That means you can't stick one outdoors.

That's about to change, for today Nest announced an outdoor version. The Nest Cam Outdoor does what the Nest Cam Indoor does, only outside. It's designed to withstand snow and rain. Installation should be easy, and there's a magnetic mount that lets you slap the unit onto a rain gutter.

The Nest Cam Outdoor is launching this fall. Around that time, Nest plans to launch person alerts. Nest's cameras already detect motion and sound. In the future, they will use remote algorithms to determine if a person is in frame and send you an alert. This functionality will be available to all Nest Aware subscribers.

People in the US and Canada can place pre-orders via the Nest StoreBest Buy, and other stores for $199.99.
