There is no shortage of choice when you start thinking about following your favorite sports and teams on your phone. Google already has a pretty sweet set of cards in Google Now for a couple of sports, but there's also a lot of benefit in having a dedicated app that has specialized news and commentary, live scores, analysis, and more. ESPN is one of the most popular apps in that category — after all, that's the network's expertise and it's transmitted through the app.

With version 5.0, ESPN's app is getting a couple of major improvements that make it even more relevant. Cricket is finally supported in the SonyESPN India edition, allowing all of our friends in India, Pakistan, Australia, England, South Africa, Sri Lanka, and more countries to follow their favorite teams and matches. And goodness knows they'd need an app to follow those matches! I've heard they can last for days. And we get bored when a football match goes to penalty shootouts...

There's also a new Favorites tab where you can quickly get to your favorite leagues, a settings option for picking your region and language, and new scoreboards. Here's the detailed changelog followed by a link to score the app in the Play Store.

WHAT'S NEW

- New Scoreboards! Runners on base for baseball and watch buttons to get the live video stream going

- Got favorite leagues? The Favorites tab shows you the top news from around every league you love

- Customize the ESPN app with region and language options including US, Deportes, and SonyESPN India Editions

- Looking for world's 2nd most popular sport? Switch to the Sony India edition for Cricket coverage with scores and news from all top cricket leagues around the world
