The Nexus Player was Google's first take on Android TV, and it wasn't very good. It's gone from the Google Store now, so good riddance? Well, there isn't exactly a replacement yet.

The Nexus Player retailed for $100, but it was often on sale at other retailers. The box was designed to showcase Android TV, which is about all it was good at thanks to the dev previews. The game controller was expensive, the remote was flimsy, and it only had 8GB of storage. Still, I suppose it was a lot cheaper than the $200 SHIELD.

The URL for the Nexus Player now just redirects to the main TV page in the store. That leaves us with just the SHIELD listed in the store. Xiaomi's Mi Box is supposed to be available soon, and it'll probably have a similar price tag.
