There aren't as many local newspapers as there used to be. You may have heard about this, and you may have heard that the Internet is part of the problem. Now Google is making a small change to throw local sources of news a bone.

Google News is introducing a new tag that will surface local news sources. The site identifies articles by observing where a publisher has written about in the past and comparing it to the location of a relevant story. You can view these local sources by expanding the box of a national story and viewing the links that pop up underneath (pictured above).

The feature is rolling out in the Google News and Weather app, which may have come pre-installed on your device. If not, you can grab it from the Play Store.
