You might vaguely recall an exclusive post on AP a few years back about "Google Workshop." It was to be an online tool for creating custom cases for the Nexus 5 and Nexus 7 (2013). Oh, those were the days. Well, it turns out Google Workshop is real, but they're called Live Cases now. You can pick up your very own custom Live Case for the Nexus 6, Nexus 5X, or Nexus 6P with a photo or stylized Maps screenshot for $35.

There are two versions of the Live Case—a Photo case and a Places case. The Photos Live Case lets you upload an image, position it, and add filters. The Places Live Case lets you choose an area on Google Maps as the basis for your design. The map (without legends) is used as the base design for your case, which can be customized with various color schemes and styles. These cases actually look really, really good.

MKBHD has a full hands-on with the tools. You can also see the Live Cases app in action.

These cases have live wallpapers included, which are controlled by the new Live Case app (the package name includes 'workshop' by the way). It's basically a photo slideshow. There's a shortcut button in the case as well, which can open your camera or some other app of your choice. Remember those Skrillex cases? This is similar. The Live Case interface is live in the Google Store if you want to order your own right now.
