A few days ago, the Outlook team announced a new option to schedule Skype calls within the app's calendar. At the time, the feature wasn't live but the app has just been updated to add it. Call scheduling can be triggered from Outlook or, more appropriately, from Skype and this is what this latest update to the latter is about.

Now when you're viewing a certain contact, you can tap the overflow menu and see a new Schedule a call option. Tap it and you're immediately taken to Outlook to add the new appointment to your calendar and block your schedule for the corresponding time. This also generates a link that can be clicked to immediately join the call when it's time to do so.

The update to version 6.17 of Skype also added new handlers for Microsoft Office files so that when you receive a document, spreadsheet, or presentation in any of your chats, it would open inside the Word, Excel, or Powerpoint apps on your phone (if they're installed).

WHAT'S NEW

• Create calendar events - Tap on a contact, then tap the menu on the upper right and select "Schedule a call."

• Open Microsoft Office files - Tap on a received Word document, Excel spreadsheet or PowerPoint presentation to open the file in its' corresponding Office app.

The update should be live for everyone on the Play Store, but you can also grab it from APK Mirror if you prefer to download it manually.
