Games

The Executive

Android Police coverage: The Executive Is A New Game About Managing A Business And Doing Tedious Paperwork—Just Kidding, It's About An Executive Who Fights Werewolves

This game has you playing as the titular "Executive," but you don't spend much time in gilt board rooms or leather-lined sports cars. Nope, your job is to beat up werewolves and demons. The Executive is a simplistic tap-and-swipe fighter, sort of a 2D version of games like Infinity Blade, but with much more style and humor. It doesn't hurt that the game's sprite graphics and animation are gorgeous, and it's a real premium title - $3 gets you everything.

From the creators of the award-winning “Pizza Vs. Skeletons” comes The Executive: a fast-paced, cinematic, martial arts action game designed from the ground up for iPhone and iPad. You are the CEO of a company that has been infiltrated by werewolves, and it’s your job to save your employees, and eventually the entire city, from their dastardly schemes. OUR PROMISE TO YOU: No ads. No getting suckered into buying more stuff later. The whole game, for one price, for all updates, forever.

Aralon: Forge and Flame 3d RPG

Android Police coverage: Nearly Three Years Later, Crescent Moon Games Releases Sequel To Epic Aralon RPG - $5, No In-App Purchases

Aralon: Forge and Flame is a full console-style RPG in the style of the Elder Scrolls series. It's a full sequel to the original Aralon, and it's similarly ambitious, with some fantastic graphics and a huge open world to explore. Mounted beasts, varied enemies to fight in real time, a handful of races and classes, and full support for first and third person modes are included. It's a premium game, and a steal at $5, but the initial release is a bit buggy and lacks controller support.

"That which once was, may yet be again. From ash and sorrow, a hero shall arise, wreathed in shadow, forged in flame. . ." -The Chronicles of the 3rd Age. The iOS classic role-playing series returns with an all-new adventure. Journey across three continents and diverse landscapes seeking a people once thought forever lost. The Throne of Aralon sits empty, and the noble families of Callaheim struggle to control the future of the kingdom.

Please, Don't Touch Anything

Android Police coverage: 'Please, Don't Touch Anything' Is A Weird Puzzle Game About A Doomsday Machine And A Bathroom Break

In Please Don't Touch Anything, you're in charge of a single George Jetson-style button. You shouldn't push it. Once you do, you're presented with a series of puzzles in ever-increasing difficulty, and the consequences for failure are dire (and usually hilarious). This simple but intriguing game features multiple endings, and it's $5 without in-app purchases.

Please, Don’t Touch Anything is a cryptic, brain-racking puzzle game about bathroom breaks, screwdrivers and nuclear explosions. Covering for a colleague taking a bathroom break, you find yourself in front of a mysterious panel which only component is a red button. And since you’ve clearly been instructed not to touch anything, the only thing you want to do now is pushing the damn button. Push it and expect to be held liable for any unintended aftermath. And there will be many.

Mad Aces

Android Police coverage: Mad Aces From Bulkypix Is A Surprisingly Fun Hybrid Of Crossy Road And Flappy Bird

You wouldn't call the charming Crossy Road or the frustrating Flappy Bird particularly innovative, but combine them both and you get something more interesting than the sum of its parts. In Mad Aces you can either smash through obstacles on the 2D playing field (with 3D graphics) or avoid them in endless runner style. It's all about timing and spatial awareness. The game uses the Crossy Road model: you can wait to "win" characters randomly or buy them for $1 each.

Join Mad Aces on their most epic flight yet. Mad Aces is one of the fastest, toughest and most exhilarating runner to hit the Google Play. Fly across the dangerous space, ramming and dodging spiked bricks, discovering new ridiculous characters. Extremely addictive “just one more time” gameplay. You control one of the mad aces as he flies, dodges, rams, blasts, and more.

LEGO® Ninjago: Shadow of Ronin

Android Police coverage: LEGO Brings Another 3DS Game To The Play Store With Ninjago: Shadow Of Ronin

LEGO's latest game follows the same basic beat-em-up/puzzles/building formula as all of its larger titles, but this one doesn't rely on an external license. In Shadow of Ronin you follow the Ninjago characters from the popular TV show and playsets. The Android version is ported from the Nintendo 3DS and PlayStation Vita, so while the core is similar to the LEGO console games, there are also quite a few mini-games.

There is a new threat in Ninjago, and he goes by the name of Ronin. With help from his army of dark samurai, Ronin steals the Ninjas’ memories using an ancient weapon called the Obsidian Glaive. In LEGO® Ninjago™: Shadow of Ronin™, it is up to players to help the Ninjas regain their memories and reclaim their powers before Ronin completes his plan and releases an even greater evil on Ninjago.

Snowboard Party 2

Android Police coverage: Snowboard Party 2 Now Dropping Sick Tricks In The Play Store

Snowboard Party was a popular, well, snowboard game that debuted on Android last year. The original was fairly unremarkable, but the sequel adds some fantastic graphics, full multiplayer support, external and customizable controls, and generally polishes the experience all over. It's as close as you're going to get to SSX on Android... just try to ignore the pricey in-app purchases after you pay $2 for your lift ticket.

Crowned the best snowboarding game available on the market, Snowboard Party is back to fulfill all your adrenaline needs in this long-awaited sequel. Experience the new time-attack race mode and practice your best tricks in 21 unique locations. Hop on your board and improve your skills to land sick combos and rack high scores. Play with your friends using the online multiplayer mode or challenge riders from all over the world using the online leaderboards.

Rayman Adventures

Android Police coverage: Ubisoft's Limbless Wonder Returns In Rayman Adventures, With More Conventional Platformer Gameplay And A Ton Of IAP

Ubisoft is back with another Rayman runner, but this one mixes things up in some very substantial ways. In Rayman Adventures you can swipe left or right to change the direction of your run, then swipe or tap again to attack or jump. The creativity and artistry from Rayman Jungle Run and Fiesta Run are once again on display, but the developer has gone full "freemium" with this release, surrendering to the temptation of $100 in-app purchases. Pity.

Embark on amazing adventures through legendary worlds on a quest to rescue the Incrediballs. The enchanted forest is in trouble; the ancient eggs that sustain the sacred tree have been stolen and scattered across the world. From haunted medieval castles to the mythical worlds of Olympus, Rayman, our fearless adventurer, and Barbara, his Viking companion, set out in search of the Incrediballs’ eggs to breathe new life into the sacred tree.

Android Police coverage: After Football Manager Mobile, SEGA Releases Football Manager Touch 2016 For Tablets, With 50% More Dimensions For 100% More Dollars

SEGA would really like you to play Football Manager. They want it so bad that they've released a super-basic version of the sports coach simulator for Android, followed by this more flashy version with full 3D soccer games. Players can sync games between both mobile versions and the full-sized PC release... and pay a bunch of money on top of the sky-high $20 entry fee.

Football Manager Touch 2016 is the most comprehensive football management game available on a mobile device. Manage real teams and real players, in 139 authentic leagues across the world and watch your games play out on the acclaimed Football Manager 3D match engine. Star Wars™: Galaxy of Heroes

Android Police coverage: RPG Battle Game 'Star Wars: Galaxy of Heroes' Is Out With Over 60 Collectible Characters

Have you ever wanted to play a Star Wars-themed RPG? Good! Knights of the Old Republic is right over there. But if you want something that appeals to nostalgia for the more established corners of the Star Wars canon, try Galaxy of Heroes. It's supposed to be a "real" version of the holo chess game from A New Hope, but it's really an excuse for EA to get as much IAP moolah as it can from Star Wars fans desperate to grab their favorite character.

Collect your favorite Star Wars characters, like Luke Skywalker, Han Solo, Darth Vader, and more, from every era – then conquer your opponents in epic, RPG-style combat. Build mighty teams and craft the best strategy to win battles across iconic locations to become the most legendary hologamer in the galaxy. Build powerful light and dark side teams with both Jedi and Sith heroes and other characters from the Star Wars universe.

Planet Diver

In Planet Diver, you sky dive. In caves. On other planets. Don't think about the setup too much, just check out some of the cool costume and enemy designs. It's essentially an endless runner or "faller," but Planet Diver clearly takes some inspiration from the golden age of side-scrolling space shooters. Twitchy difficulty, power-ups, and screen-filling bosses make for quite the experience. The game is $2 with some minimal in-app purchases.

Planet Diver is about an adventurous daredevil tackling her newest obsession: Wing suit diving. With her close robotic companion Buddy she'll travel across space to seek out the most dangerous planets and their respective chasms to dive in. You'll dive through a variety of deadly and exotic planets, fighting off the flora and fauna of each locale, while collecting valuable star stuff to further fund your adventures.

Facility 47

Facility 47 is the latest in the ever-increasing range of point-and-click adventure games on Android (though I suppose they're really point-and-tap). It uses the good old amnesia + mysterious location setup to deliver some spooky backstory and a few puzzles. The 2D art is gorgeous, displaying a frozen Ice Station Zebra theme, and it looks like it should last you quite a while. The full game is $4, but there's also a free demo available.

You wake up alone and freezing in an icy cell. You try the cell door but it’s locked, it seems that you are stuck with no apparent escape. All that surrounds you is a letter and a bottle of pills, and no sign of how long you have been here or why. Escape from this room and you will begin a journey through an isolated research facility in the freezing depths of the Antarctic, solving exciting puzzles as you go and unlocking new locations around the Facility.

Super Dangerous Dungeons

Super Dangerous Dungeons is a platformer in which you traverse dungeons that are dangerous to a super degree. It's a pretty by-the-numbers platformer game in the old style, but that's not a bad thing: impressive graphics and sound are the icing on the cake of challenging and relatively large stages. It's more Mario than Castlevania, but there are still plenty of things to find as you explore. Best of all, it's free (ad-supported) with no IAP.

Hop into a challenging platforming adventure with the little treasure hunter Timmy. Run and jump your way through trap and puzzle filled corridors, but watch out: the rooms are full of spikes, pits, and other deadly dangers. Do you have what it takes to conquer the dangerous dungeons and reach the legendary treasure?

  • 48 challenging levels, including bosses and secret stages.
  • Stylish and retro pixel art graphics.
  • SNES inspired retro soundtrack by KungFuFurby.

Gopogo

Gopogo comes from Nitrome, the makers of quirky indie titles like Green Ninja. It's a simple platformer, except that every movement and action is carried out on a pogo stick. The only control element is the angle at which your pogo-er points, and the objective is to clear the level, beat the bad guys, and grab coins to unlock more characters. Ads can be removed with an in-app purchase for currency.

Join the Pogo gang. In a grim sci-fi future where pogoing is outlawed, this gang of misfits breaks all the rules. Pogo over the police and their dogs, avoid hazards, and make it to the top. And once you complete the final level, try to reach a highscore in the Endless mode.

- Casual one-handed gameplay, no virtual buttons here.

- Adjust your angle to pogo around

- 2 gameplay modes: 40 hand-made Levels and Endless Mode to keep you pogoing

- Several dozens of characters to unlock

- Sharp pixel art graphics

- Groovy music by Eirik Suhrke, composer of Super Crate Box and Ridiculous Fishing

Heatos

Heatos is a tile puzzler that looks like Threes on the surface, but it's a little more complex. The point is to cancel out the "cold" temperatures by overlapping them with heat - the blue and red tiles. Scrabble-style multipliers help you as you progress around the board one space at a time. Other obstacles and larger grids are introduced in the later levels. The game is free with one-time in-app purchases for more levels.

It is challenging but relaxing and not hectic. Heatos is recommended for those who are looking for a special pastime that stands out from the crowd. Your main task in Heatos is to remove all negative temperatures (blue) from the game field. The following basic rules apply:

  • You can mix two adjacent tiles to add up their temperatures
  • However two cold temperatures cannot be mixed
  • You can also move tiles to empty fields, but then they'll lose energy

It gets more tricky as soon as special tiles such as Multipliers, heat bombs or dropper are met. Heatos can help you to improve your logic thinking and increase your sense of efficiency.

Pro Pinball

Zen Studios has a credible claim to being the King of the Pinball developers on Android, but Pro Pinball is a revival of a classic series that aims to be less fantastic and more simulation. The game emulates a "real" pinball table, complete with lights and sounds inspired by the classics of arcades and bars. At the moment there's only one table, but more are coming. Unfortunately a bunch of the "pro" settings are hidden behind a $4 in-app purchase (on top of the $3 game price).

Pro Pinball, the world's most realistic pinball simulation is back, better than ever. Featuring the first of the ULTRA editions - Pro Pinball: Timeshock.

• The ultimate pinball physics engine.

• Beautiful photo realistic graphics at Retina resolutions

• Control the ambient light level - play in the dark with ultra dynamic lighting effects

• A top class soundtrack featuring dozens of exciting tracks

• Hundreds of top quality dot-matrix display animations

• Operator's Menu lets you fully customise your games and experiment with the table (Deluxe version only)

• Glass-Off Mode lets you take the virtual glass off the table and push the balls around the table with your finger (Deluxe version only)

• Unified world-wide high score leaderboards

• More content packed in than many regular tables put together - Multiballs, Wizard Modes, Video Modes, Spinners, Jet Bumpers, Magnets, Drop Targets and just about everything else you can imagine.

har•mo•ny 3

Harmony 3 (ain't nobody got time for those dots) is a sliding tile puzzle game that doesn't reinvent the wheel, but manages to be so simple and appealing that it doesn't need to. The player is tasked with re-arranging the scrambled tiles in chromatic order with a simple swapping mechanic. $2 (plus some cheap IAP) grants access to 170 puzzles.

har•mo•ny 3 is a puzzle game of beautiful color and captivating music, unified in perfect harmony. New chapters feature 170 exquisite levels, each handcrafted to aesthetic perfection. Your objective is to strategically rearrange blocks to reassemble each palette to its correct order. Color palettes subtly morph before your eyes. Gameplay elements fade and dance to beautiful music. With a rapidly increasing difficulty level, har•mo•ny 3 will delight your eyes and ears while stimulating your brain in a relaxing, near-hypnotic experience. You simply have to experience it to believe it.

Give It Up! 2

Give It Up, a combination of twitchy frustration and surprisingly good music, gained a modest following after its initial release. The sequel keeps the tap-tap-swipe-tap gameplay but adds a ton of variety in the musical stages, including multiple vertical paths. There are also new characters and obstacles. There's a bit of a lack of levels with only 18 at launch, and the IAP is a little more heavy-handed than in the original.

The sequel of the popular rhythm-based platform game has arrived. Give It Up. 2 combines the best features of platform and rhythm games, bringing the best Give It Up. ever. Play with Blob or one of his friends in a unique and surreal grayscale world full of deadly spikes and platforms.

• Difficulty varies: practice a lot and level up.

• 18 exciting stages: proceed in an order of your choice.

• Tap to the rhythm of the music and jump across the platforms.

• Watch out for spikes, steps and other obstacles.

• Discover hidden stages.

• Jump like a pro: accomplish 3 starts on every stage.

DARTHY

Darthy is a minimal platformer where you control... well, it looks like a tiny evil Dunkin' Donut Hole. He hops along through the pixelated stages and occasionally bounces into a rocket for some Battletoads-style vehicular segments. This is one of those games where the difficulty is a developer-noted feature, so prepare to exercise your patience.

DARTHY is a Simple Side Scrolling Pixel Platformer based on old school mechanics. DARTHY wakes up in the hospital and soon finds out he must release the souls of the robots imprisoned in the Gold Doubloons (Gold Coins) by the Giant Space Pirates. Help DARTHY Roll, Bounce, and Fly a Rocket to free the unfortunate souls. Made with my kids.

Board Defenders

Board Defenders is a remixed version of chess. The objective is to take out the opposing pieces (in this case various kids in a sort of Ed, Edd, & Eddie atmosphere) while moving via the familiar rules. Both the opposing pieces and your own are quite limited, which gives different structures to the levels. Give it a try if you're looking for a puzzle game with a low barrier to entry.

Play this amazing logic puzzle game. Have lots of fun in the world of Playville. Board Defenders is super-structuring the rules of the world’s most popular game of all times. A modern vision, addictive, thrilling and fun fast action game, combining the pace of an arcade with the challenge of a logic puzzle - brain game, based on chess rules. Taking place in the beautiful setting of “Playville” the game will make you live through an amazing and uncommon gaming experience.

Snapimals: Discover Animals

Snapimals takes no small amount of inspiration from Pokemon Snap: you traverse 3D environments and employ some basic puzzle-solving to get "pictures" of adorable animals. The graphics and gameplay are simple but appealing, at least until you get to the "museum building" part of the game. If you'd like to run around and see animals without having to shoot them (looking at you, Deer Hunter) give it a try.

Discover amazing animals from Wilds, Arctic and Dino regions, take pictures, and build the greatest museum on earth. Join The Captain and venture to the ends of the world to photograph the rarest, funniest, and wildest animals ever spotted.

* Live the Moment: Experience a vibrant world through the lens of your trusty camera

* Go Wild: Venture among the animals and see what they really do when nobody's watching

* Craft your World: Build out your museum and have visitors venture from all over the globe to experience your creation

* Interact with Animals - Toss goof-balls and play a harmonica to unlock and discover your beloved animals' quirky behaviors, especially those of Rare and Legendary ones

* Upgrade your Camera - Zoom in to get up close and personal with the fascinating animals

* Captain’s Pics - Snap and Collect all the pics for the Captain’s Collection

TruckSimulation 16

Most people would consider commercial trucking to be a boring and monotonous job, but these simulator games have become amazingly popular (especially in Europe). This rather blatant mobile imitation features just seven truck models, but all of them are officially licensed with rendered cabs, and the routes go through modeled versions of European cities. $2.99 gets you in with some relatively cheap in-app purchases for extra features.

In TruckSimulation 16 you will take true-to-life control of one of seven real trucks. Start out with a rickety old clunker and earn your first coins in a variety of supply contracts across a large road network in Western and Central Europe. Use the money you earn to purchase better trucks, such as five faithfully reproduced MAN tractor units. Diverse mission types, from standard orders to the transportation of hazardous goods, provide plenty of variety.

Spevo

Spevo is a pretty standard top-down twin-stick shooter (odd that something so specific has become so widespread). Gameplay is basic, though you might get a kick out of the unique stages and ships - the game positively vomits color onto the screen. Several defensive and offensive power-ups are available, and ships transform for super attacks. Just try to ignore some of the questionable translation.

Discover the hudge universe ; Many hundreds of level. More than 30 types of ennemies and level configuration. Several objectives to win.

Several special features

  • Homing bullets

MLB.com Line Drive

Despite the name, this officially licensed Major League Baseball game does not feature only line drives. That would be silly. Nope, it's a casual hitting game wherein you can score everything from a complete whiff to a home run... but there were probably too many games named "home run" without the MLB license. This title includes a few officially recreated pro baseball stadiums and a super-simple control scheme, along with ads, social networking pushes, and (you guessed it) $100 in-app purchases.

Blast home runs with the swipe of your finger. An official game of MLB.com, the makers of Home Run Derby & R.B.I. Baseball. Each level presents challenging score goals and big rewards with physics-based gameplay for hours of fun. Increase your score by blasting homers outside of the ballpark and send them crashing through the city streets. Earn special bonus points for slamming into windows, cars, airplanes, blimps and even spaceships.

Sniper Fury

Gameloft's take on the "sniper" shooter sub-genre doesn't have Jason Statham. But it does have online multiplayer, which I assume looks like a forced version of Call of Duty's infamous sniper battles (with an annoying base-building and "invasion" mechanic to boot). The single-player side includes over 100 missions and some very impressive graphics and (of course) massive amounts of in-app purchases. Prepare to get wiped out by all the PvP players who pay for the best weapons and upgrades.

No time for diplomacy; time for war action. We are calling for the best sniper in the world to join us as we take aim at evil, wherever it hides. This is not a game. There is no room for remorse here, so shoot to kill.

• 130+ action missions

• Unbelievable 3D graphics that will bring you to the near future, from urban skyscrapers to exotic locations

• Soldiers, armored vehicles, air units and many more enemy classes

• Next-gen “bullet time” effects capture your every amazing sniper headshot

• Sandstorms, blizzards, rainstorms and other rich atmospheric effects

Pridefest™

Pridefest is a game that lets you manage a gay (lesbian-bi-transgender-queer) pride parade. According to developer Atari, it's meant to be a celebration of LGBT culture and expression. And that's nice, I suppose, but it's not as if your download helps anyone except Atari. The game neatly sidesteps any of the political or social issues faced by LGBT people, and cynically, it charges the same insane IAP prices as other "manager" games. Download it for free if you like, but your money would be better spent on your charity of choice.

Celebrate the LGBTQ (Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Transgender and Queer) community with Pridefest™, an interactive social-simulation game that empowers YOU to bring joy and color to your city and friends. As Mayor, it’s your job to restore your city to its former glory by customizing shops, completing quests, making new friends, and running your own Pride parades. Choose your floats and navigate flamboyant parades in fun mini-games.

InCell VR (Cardboard)

Here's a simple little VR game for Google's Cardboard system. It's essentially a "rail shooter" in the tradition of games like Rez and Panzer Dragoon, though there's very little shooting. It's more about absorbing and enjoying a somewhat fantastical vision of microscopic biology. The game is free with no IAP, and it will work in a regular 360-degree mode if you don't have a viewer.

InCell is an action/racing game with a bit of strategy and education thrown into the mix in a rare and highly unusual micro world of the carefully recreated human cell. This is the right project to start your acquaintance with Cardboard VR or receive new VR impressions. The game is focused on Virtual Reality but you can play just fine without a set (Cardboard or any other). To switch VR mode off - just tap & hold the screen or use Cardboard's trigger to open main menu.

PBS KIDS ScratchJr

ScratchJr is a "creation station," a kids' game that intends to teach the youngins the basic principles and skills (if not the actual nitty-gritty details) of computer coding. The interface is WYSIWIG with LEGO-style snap-together code blocks. The game and story results are, naturally, pretty basic, but PBS deserves some applause for lending its talent and its licensed characters to an app that encourages kids to get interested in essential computer science skills. It's free with no in-app purchases.

With PBS KIDS ScratchJr, kids can create their own interactive stories and games featuring their favorite characters from Wild Kratts, Nature Cat, WordGirl and Peg + Cat. The storytelling possibilities are endless with this creative coding app for children ages 5-8. By snapping together colorful programming blocks, children can make characters move, jump, dance and sing. In the process, kids will learn to solve problems, design projects and express themselves creatively on a tablet.
