Secure messaging client Telegram gets updated frequently with new features, but it's still 100% free and has no ads. The latest batch of awesome and inexplicably free stuff includes the option to have more than 200 members in a group, and should that larger group (or any group) need official admins, you can do that too.

Here's the changelog for Telegram 3.3.

  • Groups can now have multiple administrators with the ability to edit the name and logo, and add and remove members.
  • Groups that have reached their capacity of 200 users can be upgraded to supergroups of up to 1,000 members.
  • Channels got a new Quick Share button right next to messages.

Supergroups are a feature users have been asking for ever since Telegram launched with the 200 user limit. These groups are optimized to load quickly even with more members. They will be muted by default, though, and will send fewer left/joined messages.

Administrators are also a new feature in Telegram. By default, all users of a group are admins, but you can change that to appoint people to manage the group. Admins can remove users, edit the group name, and change the group profile picture.

The new version looks to be widely available, but we've got it on APK Mirror too if you need it.
