- 1 Know A Worthy New App? Let Us Know!
Idle Sword is an RPG wherein you control a party of adventurers that travel through various procedurally-generated dungeons. The combat is real-time, but it's basic enough that all you really have to do is manage the characters' inventory and loot as they progress and level up. The visuals aren't much, but since it's free with no in-app purchases, the game is worth checking out for fans of old-school dungeon crawlers.
Action packed Idle Game. Explore procedural dungeons, find new teammates and defeat Mr. Big Stache. Sell equipment and upgrade your skills to go deeper into each dungeon. Based on the popular flash game of the same title.
Thirty Days & Seven Seas
This is a rather toned-down tower defense game based on Cartoon Network's Clarence show. Or rather, it's based on the Calvin & Hobbes-style pirate imagination of the titular Clarence, who faces off against other pirates and various sea monsters in a familiar lane-based strategy setup. Thirty Days and Seven Seas includes voice acting from the show's main characters and no in-app purchases.
Ahoy, mateys. Join Clarence and friends on a swashbuckling quest for pirate treasure in Thirty Days & Seven Seas. Thirty Days & Seven Seas lets you play as Jeff, Sumo and Clarence in their pirate personas, Captain Blackhook, Crusty Pete and Mr. Tobias J. Tobias. Each one has radically different attacks and can spend doubloons with Chad the Quartermaster to unlock and upgrade more skills.
Real Boxing 2 CREED
The original Real Boxing was basically a tap-and-swipe fighter in the vein of Infinity Blade, but with a pro boxing veneer. The sequel is more of the same, but it adds even better graphics, more "MMO" elements with multiplayer career and tournament modes, and an official license. Characters from the new Rocky spinoff Creed will make appearances, along with some very hard-hitting in-app purchases.
Take the fight to the next level in Real Boxing 2 CREED™ - the official mobile game of the movie CREED™. Train with the legendary Rocky Balboa and become the World Champion in the sequel to the award winning Real Boxing™. Ready for Round 2? Enter the ring and fight as Adonis Johnson, the son of Rocky Balboa’s legendary rival Apollo Creed.
Number Chef is a math game that's based on strategic positioning. Drag a tile onto an odd number and the two are added, drag it onto an even number and it's subtracted. Combine the numbers on the grid to hit the targets given to you by the chef. The mechanic is simple - it's not going to stump any math majors - but anyone who likes a brain teaser will probably get a kick out of it.
Number Chef is a free puzzle game that is based on a completely NEW gameplay mechanic, one that rewards skill and careful thinking. The game might look simple: odd number tiles add and even number tiles subtract each other... but you will very quickly figure the problem to be anything but simple. If you’re looking for a light, casual, mindless experience, this might not be the game for you.
This is a stylized 1 vs 1 fighter, which is probably more realistic than most fighters that include swords. That's because of the fights boil down to a single katana slash, so position and timing is of the utmost importance. The 2D graphics recall traditional Japanese paintings, and the game includes online two-player matches. Local multiplayer is also included, but at least one of you will need a controller.
Kiai Resonance is a 2D versus fighting game. You take part in multiplayer samurai combats where one hit off-guard is fatal, and several challenges to perfect your skills. The player can change his katana position at any time to adjust to his opponent's, creating a mind game where you have to anticipate his next attack.
Amazing Loot Grind
There are some RPGs where you get the impression that obtaining loot is the only real objective. In Amazing Loot Grind, that isn't just an impression. The core mechanic of this game is essentially a slot machine: play to get loot, equip said loot, which allows you to get better loot. It's an interesting idea, but I get the sense that this will only appeal to especially compulsive gamers.
All the fun of opening the chest, without having to run the dungeon. The evil wizard, RNG, has stolen all of your hard-earned loot, and hidden it in countless treasure chests. To get it back, you must use your skill at opening treasure chests, to, well... open treasure chests. Open the chest, get loot, and equip it to increase your odds of getting even better loot. Grind until you get the best loot.
Beat da Beat Free
Beat Da Beat is a mixture of top-down shoot-em-up and thumping dubstep that flew under our radar earlier this year. Now it has a free version in addition to the $1 standard game. Either one of them will give you a neon-soaked bullet hell with rhythm elements (that periodically shifts into a 2D quasi-brawler) with a variety of ships and weapons.
Everything that happens on the screen - movement, actions, shootings - are based on the musical composition. Can you imagine anything more awesome than dodging a rain of enemy bullets to a mighty Dubstep beat, turning the alien enemies into atoms, while dancing happily to this? What? Punching the bad guy's face in close combat? No problem.
Skill Wave: Endless Fun
Skill Wave is a twitch game in which you move from left to right with a tap and avoid obstacles. It's the latest in the ever-increasing line of frustration-focused mobile games, but with an element of collection (via coins that can be applied to new characters). While you can't actively shoot, you can collect power-ups that temporarily turn your bouncing dot into a gun-totting, badass... uh, bouncing dot. A single $2 IAP removes advertising.
Explore an abstract world with dynamic landscapes and sharp obstacles. Avoid obstacles and collect power ups in this new endless action game. How far can you get?
◆ Simple One-Touch Gameplay
◆ Endless Fun
◆ Awesome Power Ups
◆ Minimalistic art and geometry obstacles
◆ Compete with friends and family with Leaderboards
◆ Collect coins to increase your score and unlock different characters
◆ Amazing original soundtrack
Last Horizon is the latest spacefaring game that adds gravitational elements to a control scheme as old as Asteroids. The point is to travel to various planets looking for a new home, picking up humans and some useful goodies on the way. You'll need to manage your resources and also make some decent landings in order to complete your task. The art and music are minimal and "zen," which might appeal to you if you're looking for something open-ended and relaxing.
Pilot the last vessel of a fallen civilization into the vast unknown, in search of a new habitable world. Carefully land on the planets you will encounter to gather terraforming resources and space-faring human survivors for the final destination... skillful piloting and the balanced management of fuel, oxygen & hull integrity are key. Explore and harvest to create a beautiful and harmonious new world, but take too much and you might incur the wrath of sentient alien life...
Alpha Omega takes advantage of that peculiar bit of optical cognizance that makes it possible to read a scrambled word if the first and last letters are correct. The game is basically a series of crosswords that are already filled in, but the interior letters need to be unscrambled. A dollar gets you the game, but you'll have to pay for extra level packs and optional hints.
Can you solve each crossword puzzle, with only the first and last letters as your guide? Each level is full of clues to reveal. Once you are able to decipher a word others will begin to reveal themselves... As words are solved the puzzle's overall clue will reveal itself as well. Journey across hundreds of levels from Alpha to Omega within a unique game board laid out according to the Greek alphabet.
If you've ever wondered what gladiator fights would be in the future, Starside Arena will let you experience one way the fantasy could go: spaceship battles. You design your own spaceship based on existing blueprints and modules, then fight against spaceships built by other players in order to progress and unlock more elements. It's rare to find a free game with a multiplayer mode at its core, but Starside Arena manages that. IAPs can help you unlock some items faster, but you can still play the game without spending a penny.
Welcome to Starside Arena - Design spaceships and battle in futuristic space gladiator fights for fortune and glory. It's the year 4000-something. You are a rookie spaceship designer wanting to prove yourself to the world. Enter Starside Arena, an entertainment arena of the future, where only the best of the best rule. Competitive Multiplayer Game featuring layers of deep strategy and endlessly evolving game content.
Neon Hack: Pattern Lock Puzzle
We all have that friend (or those friends) who stubbornly uses a pattern lock and makes their life hell by having to draw a pattern each time they want to use their phone. This friend stands to fall in love with Neon Hack since the main premise of the game is based on the pattern lockscreen. In order to solve each puzzle, you have to swipe to light up each dot, connect them together, then swipe again to change a dot's color. The game is free with a few $1-$2 IAPs that will unlock further level packs.
Neon Hack is a brain game inspired by your phone’s pattern lock system. Crack the pattern lock and hack into the system. Swipe the correct path to match the given neon light pattern and pop the lock. As a hacker, don’t expect a walk in the park. Some of the patterns may seem easy, but you’ll have to use your brain training and concentration if you want to pop the lock in each level.
Dark Fear is a horror-themed RPG that takes its dedication to the retro aesthetic very, very seriously. The story plays out in a series of static scenes, but it also engages in some turn-based combat and character upgrades. I can't say I'm a fan of the layout or art direction, and the horror setup is anything but original (you are in a Creepy Place and you have amnesia) but horror fans might get a kick out of it.
Dark Fear is a unique pixel-horror themed RPG/adventure game. You wake up in pitch blackness. You have no idea who you are, where you are or how you got here - it's up to you to figure it out. For horror game fans seeking out that ultimate fix, 'Dark Fear' delivers an immersive, frightening experience wrapped in a cinematic soundtrack and a dark, twisted storyline written by an ex-film industry professional.
Hold Your Breath
The latest game from the developer of Card Crawl (one of the best titles to hit the Play Store this year) is considerably simpler than the last one. Hold Your Breath is one of those games that counts frustration as a feature: tap to inflate a little ball-thing and raise it up, but each tap makes it bigger and brings two nails closer to popping it. You'll be lucky to get a single point.
Tap to grow. Collect points but don't touch the spikes. How long can you hold your breath?
In Triangle 180, you make triangles. That's about it. The idea is that you connect like-colored dots to make triangles as quickly as possible. It's a unique approach, but the rather slow pace and sluggish controls turned me off. If you need a time-waster that's unique and at least technically unlimited, check it out.
Triangle 180 is Fingerprint Studio's original triangular twist on the puzzle genre. Fall into a calm, peaceful state with the intuitive connect the dots gameplay and array of pleasant colors and sounds.
- Connect three dots of the same color to form a triangle
- Build combos by drawing triangles of the same color.
- Capture other dots with your drawn triangle to further boost your score.
- Producing various effects by capturing special objects to change the board to suit your play style.
This soccer game stands out from the pack with some impressive graphics and a unique approach to gameplay that makes touchscreen controls more intuitive. The instant your player-character is about to kick the ball the action is paused, allowing you to make a precise strike. That said, this isn't a full sports game, as it breaks down the player-focused story into a long series of bite-sized levels. It also has some rather hefty IAP.
Score. Hero, from the award winning makers of Score. World Goals, Dream League Soccer & First Touch Soccer. BE A HERO. Pass, Shoot & Score your way to legendary status, as you explore the dramatic career of your HERO player over 280 challenging levels. Immersive free flowing 3D Score. Gameplay lets you control the action. Split defences with precise through balls, or bend shots into the top corner, putting you in control for an unrivalled mobile soccer experience.
Good Dinosaur Storybook Deluxe
The Good Dinosaur is Pixar's latest feature length film (and Disney's attempt to squeeze a few more dollars out of the world before Star Wars drops). This interactive storybook is definitely aimed at kids, but no worse for that - it has the usual grade school reading aids and kid-focused puzzle and memory games. It's yours for $5, and you don't need to worry about Junior accidentally charging your credit card with in-app purchases.
Take an epic journey through this interactive re-telling of the new Disney . Pixar feature film, THE GOOD DINOSAUR.
· Adventure with Arlo the Apatosaurus and his unlikely human friend, Spot.
· Read-along with exciting interactive animations on every page.
· Test your skills with challenging games along the way as you help Arlo find his way home.
Good Dinosaur: Dino Crossing
The second Good Dinosaur title to hit the Play Store in a single week is more of a conventional game than the storybook above. To be specific, it's a Frogger game, with giant trucks replaced with huge sauropods and t-rexes. The setup is lacking the creativity of its filmic inspiration, but it's free with no in-app purchases.
Get ready to race in a world where dinosaurs rule, inspired by the new Disney•Pixar film, “The Good Dinosaur”; in theaters November 25th. Join unlikely friends Arlo & Spot as you make your way across treacherous terrains ruled by ravenous raptors, blistering hot geysers, and more.
