The Chromebook Pixel launched in 2013, and a replacement followed up in March of this year. Now Google plans to expand the Pixel brand to tablets with the Pixel C. And no, it won't be running Chrome OS.

Confidence Level

We're rating the confidence level of this rumor at an 8 out of 10. The source is reliable, and we believe the information to accurately represent the state of things in the very recent past. It's almost certain.

The Rumor

Unlike the first two Pixel devices, the C will be an Android-powered device. Chrome OS is increasingly touchscreen friendly, but for now, Google has opted to go with its already proven mobile OS.

The Pixel C, codenamed Ryu, will have a 10.2-inch display with 308ppi and a super-bright backlight capable of 500 nits. Inside there's an NVIDIA X1 quad-core processor and Maxwell GPU. This is supplemented by 3GB of LPDDR4 RAM.

The build quality will continue to feel like a Pixel, which have all offered metal designs and gorgeous screens. The tablet will look like the existing laptops, just minus the keyboard.

That said, there will be two keyboard accessories to choose from, one aluminum and one leather. Both attach to the tablet and charge automatically when closed.

The C will also retain the lightbar on the back, which glows to show the remaining battery life. Like the 2015 Pixel, the C will come with a USB Type-C charger. This way you can power both devices using the same plug.

Despite this being an Android tablet, this is still not a Nexus product. You won't see another manufacturer's name branded on the device. This is Google's baby. The company also targets the Pixel line at a different audience. We don't have pricing yet, but don't expect this to be cheap.

As for timing, anticipate the device to launch sometime in November, but look for it to make an appearance tomorrow when Google starts making announcements.
