HTC may have miscalculated with the M9, leading to the company's current downward spiral. CEO Cher Wang has promised investors that HTC is going to turn things around, and part of that is a late 2015 "hero" device. Now a mysterious HTC phone has leaked on Chinese social networking site Weibo, and it very well may be the long-rumored HTC Aero/A9.

From what we've been able to gather, this device is definitely a real HTC phone, and it's probably the A9. The overall shape has been flattened out compared to the M9, leaving it looking a lot like an iPhone 6 Plus. The front glass is also curved downward on the edges like an iPhone or Nexus 6. The gold looks really gaudy in this pic, but presumably a nice HTC gunmetal gray version will be available too.

We don't yet know for sure what sort of specs the A9 will have, but rumors have listed a MediaTek Helio X20, 4GB of RAM, a 5.2-inch QHD screen, and a 3500mAh battery. With the MediaTek chip, this might be a China-only release. The strong iPhone resemblance would also make a North American launch tricky. Apple isn't as litigious as it once was, but it would be hard to let that slide.
