Here's something you already knew about the Galaxy Note 5 and S6 Edge+ before today's announcement—both devices are expensive. Samsung charged a ton for its massive phones before, and nothing about introducing more premium materials into this year's iterations says cheap. So you're looking at parting with uncomfortably close to a grand by the time taxes are factored into the equation.

AT&T, for example, wants around $740 for the Galaxy Note 5 and $815 for the S6 Edge+. You can divide those up into however many payments you want using AT&T Next plans, but it still amounts to a lot of money. The price only goes up if you opt for the 64GB models.

Galaxy Note 5

So here's what AT&T is going to do. If you buy a Note 5 or S6 Edge+ from them, you can get up to $300 in bill credit. That amounts to a couple months of free service.

There are two ways to get this amount of money. One is to switch to AT&T from another carrier and purchase either device on AT&T Next. That will net you $100. You will get another $200 if you trade-in a qualifying smartphone.

Galaxy S6 Edge+

Another option is to switch a line to AT&T while being a DIRECTV or U-Verse TV customer. That will get you $300 for each line you port in with a new device. You can then get an additional $200 with a trade-in.

Current customers are only eligible for the $200 trade-in deal, which they can take as instant credit or as a promotion card.
