Alcatel is running a new promotion today for the back-to-school season, and it looks like a good one. For a limited time, you can get an Idol 3 smartphone and a Onetouch Watch for $299. The phone by itself is $250, so you're effectively only paying $50 for the watch.

Under normal circumstances, the watch is $150 and I'm not entirely sure it's worth that much. It's not an Android Wear device, and the feature set is very limited. The screen only occupies the middle of the watch face. The numbers around the edge are just part of the case as well. It's good enough to get notifications, alarms, and track your fitness stats, though. And hey, fifty bucks? That's probably reasonable.

The Idol 3 is a solid mid-range phone as well. It has a great 5.5-inch 1080p LCD, 2GB of RAM, 16GB of storage with a microSD card slot, and a Snapdragon 615. It gets great battery life and the form factor is impressive for a budget phone. It's an unlocked phone, so it'll work on any GSM/LTE carrier.
