As far as I'm concerned, Ultimate Ears is the best name in portable wireless speakers right now - the BOOM and MEGABOOM are my personal picks for best all-around Bluetooth speakers on the market. The Mini BOOM had its time, as well, and it was very good for its pint size. Today, however, Ultimate Ears has unveiled the Mini's successor, the UE ROLL. I'll admit that I'm not the biggest fan of the name, but it is fitting - it looks like a dinner roll. I have no idea if that's actually what they were going for, but whatever. That's what I'm taking it as.

Anyway, this ultra-portable speaker improves on the Mini's design in basically every way. It's water-, shock-, and dirt-proof, along with offering 360 degrees of sound thanks to its unique dome shape. It also has a bungee strap on the back that allows the speaker to be hung or strapped to things, drastically increasing its versatility.

The ROLL is available today in six different color combos - Volcano, Atmosphere, Sugarplum, Reef, Pinata, and Sriracha (shown above, respectively) - for $99, and like the other members of the UE family, has an app that allows for deeper controls than just using the speaker by itself. I actually have a review unit on-hand, so if you want to wait before picking one up, expect to see a more in-depth look later today. In the meantime, here's what UE has to say about the ROLL in the official PR.
