Samsung's latest and most advanced tablet series is the Galaxy Tab S. That's kind of amazing when you consider the company's previous rate of releasing new tablets, and that the Tab S 8.4 and Tab S 10.5 were released almost a year ago. But I suppose it's nice if you happen to have one, so Samsung is more motivated to release faster updates. Today the Galaxy Tab S 10.5 on US Cellular gets its Android 5.0 update.

The update information was just posted to Samsung's support site, with a release date marked as today. So the update itself (version T807R4TYUBOE5, Android 5.0.2, if you're wondering) may or may not actually go out over US Cellular's network immediately. Samsung's update info doesn't mention anything that's not in Android 5.0, so don't expect any major bug fixes or changes to Samsung's skin.

  • Android version 5.0.2, Lollipop. Upgrades include:

Material Design: The new operating system has a new look and feel that is colorful and fresh. Your experience will include more fluid animations along with improved applications and personalization options like themes, colors and widgets.

Your device, your rules: For fewer worries and disruptions, adjust your settings so only certain people and notifications get through. When it's important, respond directly from your lockscreen.

More ways to secure your device: Share your device securely with guest user mode. Or create multiple user accounts to enable friends to log in on your device. In either case, no one will be able to access any of your stuff. And you can use Android Smart Lock to secure your phone or tablet by pairing it with a trusted device like your wearable or even your car.

Pick up where you left off : The songs, photos, apps, and even recent searches from one of your Android devices can be immediately enjoyed across all of your Android devices.

As always, any major modifications to your tablet's software may result in a failed flash. Keep in mind that updates after Lollipop won't flash if any changes have been made to the System partition, no ifs, ands, or buts. Since US carriers tend to send out OS updates in batches (especially for large files), don't be surprised if it takes up to a week for the OTA to reach you.
