To say that Nexus 9 owners are somewhat miffed that Google's flagship tablet is currently lagging several versions behind the latest Android release is something of an understatement. The Nexus 9's slow software update rollout, well behind the rest of the Nexus line and even some third-party devices, is as odd as it is irritating. But according to an official Google Twitter post (update: Google+ too), the wait should be over today. Sort of.

Starting today, #AndroidLollipop update 5.1 will be rolling out to a #Nexus9 near you. pic.twitter.com/oxOvrujzmB

There it is, in black and white: Lollipop 5.1 should be available for the Nexus 9 soon. Of course, the Twitter post didn't specify whether the N9 will be getting the slightly newer 5.1.1 build (and at this point, nothing would surprise us). But beggars can't be choosers. Update: the Google+ post says the update will be 5.1.1.

This post will be updated with links to over-the-air ZIP files and image files once they become available.

Well it's midnight Pacific time, and we still haven't seen any updates on the Nexus 9 units owned by Android Police team members. We haven't been tipped with any update info or links, either. Boo.
