Roku announced some new features for its streaming players the other day, and now those features are filtering down to the Android remote app. In the latest iteration, you get voice search and a new "Movies Coming Soon" feed.

Here's the changelog from Roku. It doesn't add much detail.

  • Use your voice to search for movies, TV shows, actors, and directors. Voice search is currently available in the English language in US and Canada. Additional languages will be made available in subsequent updates.
  • Follow "Movies Coming Soon” within My Feed and get updates when they are available to watch.
  • A number of bug fixes.

On the hardware side, you need a Roku 3 to do voice search via the remote. That isn't listed as a stipulation on the app, so it might work on other Roku boxes. The feed gives you an idea which new movies are available to stream and how much they cost. You can basically follow new movies, and they'll show up as soon as they are listed on a Roku channel for streaming. The update is live now, but you need a Roku player for that to matter.
