The Goodreads app wasn't bad when it came out, but it's been far behind the times pretty much ever since. With the most recent update, however, it's getting a fresh coat of paint with a number of subtle changes. It's not material, but it's creeping slowly in that direction.

Here's the changelog. It's not terribly informative, but we can dig in.

  • Updates feed is now the home screen – see your friends' updates and get book ideas
  • New navigation – your favorite features are just one tap away
  • Refreshed book page – new "Want to Read" button to make shelving your books even easier
  • Updated design – cleaner layouts with easier to read fonts

The old app was still mired in the holo era, but it also had a few older UI elements. For example, there was a legacy menu button of shame. That's gone now, and there's a slide-out nav menu. The book page is also new, and the recently redesigned feed is now the main page when you open the app.

The update is live for everyone, so have at it. You can check out the old Goodreads UI below.
