The Android 5.1 update for the 2014 Moto X is just starting to roll out to the Pure Edition device, and it adds all the things you're now familiar with from other devices. One new feature exclusive to the Moto X is a handy addition to Moto Actions. You can now turn the flashlight on and off with a "chop twice" gesture.
The device will pop up a notification about this shortcut the first time you turn on the flashlight from the quick settings, but you can also go into the Actions settings to get the gist. The chop twice action requires a bit more force than other Moto Actions shortcuts, so make sure you have a good grip. Give the phone two quick chopping motions and the flashlight will come on. Do it again to turn it back off.
You can turn this feature off in the Moto settings, but I don't think you're likely to trigger it accidentally. As long as you remember to hold on tight, this is a really neat feature. The update can be sideloaded on the Pure Edition right now, but carrier variants will be waiting for a while.
