Source (News Reader)

Android Police coverage: Klinker Apps Brings Source News App Out Of Beta, Gives Talon For Twitter (Plus) KitKat Support, And Kicks Off Two-Day Sale

Source is a news reader app from the folks who made the well-regarded Twitter client Talon. It has the same dedication to a solid, customizable design, and pulls from a bunch of reader services like Feedly, Inoreader, The Old Reader, or even standard RSS or Twitter lists. Android Wear support and an integrated browser are included, but you'll still need to pop out to your service of choice to modify your subscriptions.

Simple, smooth, and fun. Source puts all of your news in one place. Source pulls articles from different services such as Feedly, Twitter lists, Inoreader, RSS, and The Old Reader to give you all of the most up to date news that you are looking for. You can easily sign in to any of these services that you want to use and start personalizing your content to fit your needs, or you can choose from the default list of sources through Twitter.

Telegram+

Android Police coverage: WhatsApp+ Developer Releases Telegram+ After Being Forced To Drop The First Project

After being unceremoniously blocked from integrating with WhatsApp, the developer of WhatsApp+ decided to go to the greener and more open pastures of the Telegram messenger service. This client includes a standard Material Design layout that can be further customized with themes, plus audio file sharing. This one shouldn't be shut down by Facebook, either.

Telegram+ is an UNOFFICIAL messaging app that uses Telegram's API. Telegram+ adds some extra features to official Telegram app:

  • THEMING: Change colors and sizes of many objects as texts, icons, headers... and create your own theme.
  • MEDIA: Audio files can be shared easily from Chat Screen
  • PRIVACY: Mobile number can be hidden from Menu Drawer and Settings menu

Corgi for Feedly

Android Police coverage: Corgi For Feedly Puts RSS Feeds On Your Android Lock Screen

Corgi is a replacement lockscreen that lets you know about all the items in your Feedly feed. I don't know why it's named after a small dog. The actionable Material Design interface is pretty good, and makes a decent argument for using this app over, say, a standard lockscreen widget (on Android 4.4 or lower). The usual social sharing options are included.

Corgi for Feedly is the fastest way to read your news on a phone. With Corgi, you won’t miss out on anything that matters to you. No need to do the extra steps to get the information that you need now. Just wake up your phone to access the stories that matter to you.

• All news subscriptions are synced with Feedly - if you are already a Feedly user, all of your existing subscriptions will be automatically available on your lock screen.

• Choose your own news resources - .Read the stories that you wan’t, by subscribing to the resources that matter to you. We offer International Search Support.

• Material Design ready - the lock screen has been created following Google's Material Design language

• Read Later - In a rush and don’t have time to read the article? Save it and read it later. Works with Pocket and Evernote.

AutoWear

Android Police coverage: AutoWear For Android Wear Brings The Power Of Tasker To Your Watch

Tasker's automatic capabilities are well-known. This app from veteran developer joaomgcd lets you extend the many functions of Tasker to your Android Wear device, including a bunch of new watch-only applications. The possibilities for user-created functions and apps are nigh infinite, but you'll need to be comfortable with the somewhat clunky Tasker user interface to get much use out of it.

AutoWear is a Tasker plugin for Android Wear. You need to have Tasker installed to use many of its features, so please be aware of that before using it. You also need an Android Wear device. It won't work on other types of smart watches. AutoWear enables you to automate your Android Wear device in ways you never imagined. You can easily bring up a voice command screen and do voice commands that are sent directly to AutoVoice.

Keyboard for Excel

Android Police coverage: Microsoft Releases An Android Keyboard Just For 10-Key Addicts To Use With Excel

10-key enthusiasts, your app has arrived... from Microsoft, of all developers. This keyboard is specifically designed for use with Excel, namely those power-users who rely on the 10-key layout to rapidly fill and edit spreadsheets. But since it's a standard Android virtual keyboard, it will also work with just about any program you like, including competing spreadsheet apps from Google and others. The only downside is that it's restricted to tablets, but to be honest, it would be pretty difficult to use even on large phones.

Keyboard for Excel, a Microsoft Garage project, provides a keyboard optimized for numbers. It delivers speed and efficiency to Excel users entering data. Key Features:

o Keyboard layout optimized for numbers

o Excel operators prioritized in the keyboard layout

o 10-key number layout for fast number entry

o Tab key for quick navigation across columns

Current limitations: This is an experimental keyboard that supports only English characters without auto-correct and gesture typing.

Recently

Android Police coverage: Chainfire's New App 'Recently' Tells The Never-Ending List Of Recent Apps In Lollipop To Take A Hike [Root Only]

Are you bothered by the fact that Android Lollipop keeps an almost unlimited number of cards in the fancy new Recents list, unlike the old way of doing things? Wow, that's a really strange thing to be bothered by. But don't worry, veteran developer Chainfire is here with an app that can keep it much tidier, at least if you have root. A $1 in-app purchase allows it to run at boot, and more features are promised soon.

With Android 5.0 Lollipop's release, the recents view (multitask button) became overview, and instead of showing you only actually running apps, it also shows you apps that have ran in the past. Over time, this screen ends up listing pretty much every app you have ever run, becomes completely useless, and wastes a perfectly good (soft-)button. Recently aims to restore sanity, by limiting which apps are shown. In its most aggressive configuration, it will show you only apps that are actually running right now.

Unbill

Android Police coverage: Unbill Is An Invite-Only Way To Stop Having To Nag Roommates To Pay Their Share

A shared living situation creates shared bills, which in turn creates awkward conversations that tend to start with "where's my money you jerk?" Unbill splits up bills among a group of people in an attractive interface. Unlike other bill splitters, this one also lets you actually submit payment information and pay directly to participating apartment complexes. Unfortunately it's invitation-only at the moment.

Unbill is invite only. If you don't have an invite code, please get one at www.unbill.us The easiest way for roommates to split and pay utility bills. Nobody likes nagging friends for money or keeping track of utility bills. Unbill tracks, splits, and even securely pays your bills for you. No checkbook required. Unbill divides each bill between roommates so that each pays an equal portion of the bill. Instead of logging in to some archaic website, or heaven forbid, mailing a check, you simply pay via your credit or debit card.

Caviar

Android Police coverage: Caviar Delivers Its App To The Play Store With The Promise Of Getting Your Favorite Foods To You In Select US Cities

Caviar is a food delivery service that offers quick delivery from high-end restaurants. That's about it, though it does include the ability to track your delivery driver on the go. Right now it's only available in the usual locations: Boston, Brooklyn, Chicago, Los Angeles, Manhattan, Philadelphia, the San Francisco Bay area, Portland, Seattle, and Washington DC. Akron, Ohio always gets the short end of the stick.

Caviar delivers the food you love from your favorite local restaurants, whether you're relaxing at home, stuck in the office or on the go. Browse the city's best restaurants with gorgeous photos of each dish for quick ordering and flawless delivery.

  • Caviar partners directly with restaurants to offer the most reliable delivery from the city's best restaurants and all of your favorites.
  • Search for your favorite restaurants in your area.
  • Full-color photos of each menu item, so you know what you're getting every time.
  • Customize your meal: get it exactly as you like it, add notes & special requests to the restaurant.
  • Predictable arrival times: follow along with your delivery using real-time GPS tracking from the kitchen to your door.

Google PDF Viewer

Android Police coverage: Google Releases Standalone PDF Viewer App Primarily Aimed At Android For Work

This is a PDF viewer. It can view PDFs. It's from Google. It's meant primarily to work with the new Android For Work program. That's about it. If you already have a PDF viewer (or you just use the one in the Kindle app), you probably don't need this.

PDF Viewing is now available directly in Google Drive. For environments where this cannot be deployed, Google PDF Viewer offers the same capabilities in a standalone app. View, print, search and copy text from pdf documents while you're on the go. Note: PDF Viewer is primarily meant for use in the context of the Android for Work Program (http://android.com/work).

BT GNow

Google Now's always-on activation phrase is pretty cool, but it's almost useless if you're using a Bluetooth headset or speakerphone. This app does just one thing: activate the Google voice search function when you press the button on your headset. It needs a little setup and it isn't guaranteed to work for every gadget, but it should be very handy for those who use Bluetooth for long commutes.

This app does one thing and one thing only – it starts Google Now when you press the hands-free button on your Bluetooth headset. Use your Bluetooth headset to activate Google Now rather than the barebones and finicky default voice dialer on your phone. Unlike other apps, this requires no configuration of the app itself. It does not keep your phone awake except when it is being used, and it starts a fresh instance of Google Now each time it is launched.

Screen Backlight OFF root

This root-only app lets you switch off your screen's backlight without actually turning the panel itself off. This is ideal for long drives with your phone as your car's entertainment system, or using a phone in sensitive areas like a meeting with a projector. A selection of options and activation/disable tools makes it easy to turn the feature on and off.

Turn off the screen backlight without switching off the screen. Perfect for listening to music videos. Most video players stop playback when the screen is turned off. This app switches only the screen backlight off but not the complete screen. Save battery and enjoy playback without the backlight staying on. To turn the backlight on again, simply touch the display. Important: This app requires root. Use at your own risk. If you don't know what "root" is, then don't install this app. It won't work without root.

QuickLyric - Instant Lyrics

Want to know the lyrics of the song that's playing on your phone right now, possibly for the purpose of busting into an impromptu karaoke session on the bus? Just open this app and it will automatically "listen" to the song, match it using an online database, and fetch the appropriate lyrics. QuickLyric's Material Design UI is slick, and it even lets you save lyrics for offline use.

A fast, beautiful, hassle-free and ad-free app to instantly fetch lyrics while you're listening to music. Countless lyrics app either bother you with a notification or force you to manually type the name of the song every time it changes. Some even ask you to pay a subscription to get rid of the ads. QuickLyric solves that issue. The app monitors the music apps on your device to know which song you're listening to.

SeeYoo

SeeYoo is a location service that tells you where people are, and how long it will take them to get to you. This isn't a new idea, but it does incorporate some interesting features like a built-in voice chat function and semi-automated navigation. As with all of these kinds of services, SeeYoo is only useful as long as your friends, family, employees, et cetera are also using it.

SeeYoo on the MAP , and when you are about to arrive. SeeYoo is the easiest way to coordinate appointments and meetings with friends or anyone else in your contact list. When you need to find out where is the exact location of the meeting or where is a friend/person you are about to meet with, simply use SeeYoo to invite this person to join a SeeYoo session.

iA Writer

iA Writer is one of those minimalist writing apps made specifically for Writers... and considering that Google Docs tends to stutter once you get past 20,000 words, it might be worth your consideration even on Android. It supports syncing with Dropbox and markdown language for easy conversion. This app was a hit on iOS, but at $5 for a purposefully simple writer (and a desktop version only available for Mac), it's a bit pricy.

INNOVATIVE WRITING TECHNOLOGY

- Focus Mode lets you concentrate on the current sentence

- Use Markdown to format your documents without taking your hands from the keyboard

- Custom typeface optimized for writing

ESSENTIAL, EASY TO USE INTERFACE

- Polished to be easy and clear

- No formatting settings to fiddle with

- No complicated interactions

SAVE AND SYNC

- Seamless Dropbox sync

Drive Syncrypt

The Google Drive app can access files on Google's cloud storage system, but uploading mobile files is a bit of a pain. This app will automatically sync folders from your local Android device with Drive. It encrypts everything, allows you to select when and how often your files are synced, and performs a few other cloud storage standards. A single $1.85 in-app purchase removes ads and allows users to sync files in the root folder of Google Drive.

Use Drive Syncrypt to keep in sync your phone files with Google Drive. Optionally, the app will encrypt your files with AES 256 encryption before upload them to Drive. Select the directories in your device that you want to keep in sync with a specific Drive folder, the sync method between Two-way, Upload only or Download only and simply keep your files safe in Google Drive.

Hop - Email Messenger

Hop is an email client that focuses on a messaging-style interface, including the kind of threaded email responses (with minimal formatting) that you'd expect from a chat app. It's a novel approach, but one that only really works if both you and your email recipient treat email like a messaging service. Goodies like easy photo and doodle insertion help keep the illusion up, and it supports Google, AOL, Yahoo, and Apple web mail services.

Hop is a fast, focused and fun email for the mobile messaging generation. Hop is the first ever app to turn your existing email into a powerful, realtime, multimedia messaging, focused on the people and groups that matter most to you. Connect Hop to your existing Gmail, AOL, Yahoo. or iCloud account and get ready to experience email like never before. Hop automatically turns your old and new email messages to a natural chat conversation.

Snapi

Even though I'm pathologically opposed to selfies, I have to admit that this app is pretty brilliant. It allows you to remotely take a snapshot with your rear camera (you know, the better one) by recognizing a palm gesture, then setting a timer. It's also got facial recognition so it knows where to focus. If you're tired of your selfies looking terrible thanks to your front-facing camera, Snapi is for you.

Snapi puts an end to uncomfortable Selfies, no more stretching your hand and fingers to trigger the camera to snap a shot. With Snapi you can now capture photos without touching the phone. Simply raise your open palm in front of camera, close it into a fist and open again – the photo will be captured. Snapi works up to 13 feet (4m) away – just put the phone down and get that group shot. So what are you waiting for? Start Snaping.

Edge Color Notifications

Apparently the Galaxy S6 Edge can flash certain colors on the side of the phone when a call is coming in. If you'd like to see the same thing on your ordinary non-curved gimmick-free phone, you can try it out with this app. It also works with regular old notifications.

This is a first release emulating the Galaxy S6 Edge feature that shows colors in the edge of the phones when there is an incoming call. Please if you report a crash while using the app, pleas add your email so i can contact you to work together and fix it. No memory drains.! no battery drains...just easy, simple and lightweight.

  • Set different animations with glow effects.
  • Set different colors for you contacts
  • Set colors for your incoming app notifications.

Ampere

Ampere is a diagnostic tool designed to test which charger and/or USB cable charges your phone faster. It measures the amount of electricity entering your phone over time, then compares it when you switch to another charger. Unfortunately not all phones are supported.

Did you ever felt, that one Charger/USB cable set charges your device really fast and the other not? Now, you can prove this with Ampere. Measure the charging and discharging current of your battery. The app works on Android 4.0.3+ devices. Not every device is supported because there are devices which lacks an appropriate measurement chip (or the interface) and they can not be supported at all. Please read the list of not supported phones at the end of the description.

FanReact

FanReact is a social network about sports. Wait, isn't every social network about sports? Can't you connect with other fans on Twitter, Facebook, Google+, everything? So what does FanReact offer that's unique? Well, it's got a UI that's a weird mix between iPhone and Android, and the "trending" section takes a Reddit approach to stories. There are hubs and boards for allegedly every sports team, all the way down to local high schools. I guess that's something.

FanReact is a social media app for fans to talk sports and upload reaction videos and photos of themselves with friends and family as the game unfolds. Share your thoughts, reactions, and more so you never miss a moment. Follow YOUR teams - From high school athletics to professional sports, your team is on FanReact. Want to talk about how awesome your high school football team is doing this season? On our team boards, feel free to comment, post pictures or videos, upvote, downvote, and talk smack to other users but more importantly, your rivals.

SupportPay - Child Support

This is an app that makes organizing and paying child support easier. There is nothing witty I can say here that wouldn't be mildly offensive to someone. Alimony and child custody support are coming in a future update.

SupportPay enables parents who live apart to easily share expenses and manage child support. Support Pay by Ittavi streamlines the complex and time consuming process of sharing, splitting and managing child expenses including scheduling and making child support expenses. Support Pay is built for parents who no longer live in the same home and want to manage their child support. A parent can enter a child expense and provide a receipt, showing the cost is for the child, thereby increasing the likelihood of child support reimbursement because the parent sees the expense is for their child.

Citymaps -Never Forget A Place

Citymaps is a curator app for local retailers and restaurants. Though it uses recommendations from "tastemakers" it also includes standard reviews, and pulls in web coupons to show you local deals. Basic social hooks and a mapping system are included, along with photos for individual listings. All in all it's nothing you can't get elsewhere, but there might be a nice discount to a local spot.

With Citymaps, you can easily find the places that matter most to you and your friends, get insider tips and see photos by following friends and tastemakers, and find amazing deals at between 50%-80% off on the best stuff to see, do, eat and buy — all in one place. Follow people with similar tastes and you’ll see all their tips appear on your map. When you leave tips, they’ll be visible to you and your followers. It makes finding someplace new to try a breeze.

Interactive Events

Android Police coverage: Google Pushes New 'Interactive Events' App To The Play Store

This "dogfood" app allows attendees of Google events to see a schedule, interact with speakers, and access whatever else Google wants them to see. Some people think it's a placeholder for the Google I/O 2015 app. Some don't. We don't know, Google doesn't tell us squat.

The Google Events App will allow guests, attending events run by Google, to interact with speakers on stage, take notes, participate in Q&A, connect to social media, and request further follow up information. The app is not available at events not organised by Google.
