Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich was a sweet frozen treat when it came out in 2011, but now something else is freezing—Chrome for ICS. Google has announced that Chrome v42 will be the final build available on Android 4.0. It's a sad day for any remaining ICS users... well, more sad than a regular day of being stuck on ICS already is.

Chrome debuted exclusively on Ice Cream Sandwich in early 2012. Since then Google has gone through 24 versions of Chrome and three major Android revisions. Google felt safe dropping support now that ICS use has started fell rapidly and low-cost devices running newer software are readily available.

The current stable Chrome release is v40 and the beta channel is v41, so ICS users still have a little time before the updates dry up. Anyone still running a phone or tablet on Ice Cream Sandwich will be able to keep using Chrome v42 going forward, but no further updates will be provided.
