LIMBO

Android Police coverage: Creepy Platformer And Steam Favorite LIMBO Crawls Into The Play Store For $5

LIMBO is a platformer and puzzler favorite among the Steam and console download crowd. And it's creepy. Super creepy. So creepy that it will give you recurring nightmares about a tiny big-headed boy and the various awful ways that he gets monochromatically disemboweled. But the atmosphere and puzzles are great, and at $5 for what has quickly become a minor classic, it's also a pretty good deal.

Uncertain of his sister's fate, a boy enters LIMBO.

Evoland

Android Police coverage: Evoland Lets You Play Through The History Of RPGs In A Single Game

Evoland is part video game, part history lesson (about video games). While it's ostensibly a traditional Japanese-style RPG, the graphics and game mechanics shift as the story progresses, going from an ancient black-and-white portable game to a modern 3D action-adventure. It's an interesting and decidedly meta take on the genre. Eventually the game just devolves into over-the-top battles that can only be won by buying in-game items with real money.* Like an increasing number of high-profile Android games, Evoland got its start on Steam and console download services.

*That isn't true at all. There are no in-app purchases in Evoland. But it would be an accurate representation of current games, now wouldn't it?

Evoland is an action adventure game which takes you on a journey through the history of classic adventure and RPG gaming. As you progress through the game, you unlock new technologies, gameplay systems and ever-improving graphics. From monochrome to full 3D graphics and from turn-based battles to real-time boss fights, Evoland makes you live the evolution of adventure gaming – all with plenty of humor and nods to moments from classic games.

Merchants of Kaidan

Android Police coverage: Trading RPG 'Merchants Of Kaidan' Costs $5.99, But It Might Just Make You Rich

If you're old enough, you might remember the "pirate math" games on the PC that had you trading goods from port to port for fun and profit. This game takes that basic idea and expands on it with a few RPG-style storylines and some fantastic 2D art. It's a pricey game by mobile standards, but includes no IAP (and it would be so easy in this kind of title) or advertising. If you like a little math in your strategy, give it a go.

Regain your riches, restore your honour and punish those who have wronged you. Merchants of Kaidan is a challenging trading game fused with lots of RPG elements. You start very humble, one cart, a purse of gold and silver coins is all that you have. Your task is to roam the world and search of opportunities to score some profit. Buy low, sell high - a merchant's motto is easy to grasp. And yet the job is harder than it seems.

Wave Wave

Android Police coverage: Noodlecake Re-Releases Wave Wave 'Rebuilt From The Ground Up,' On Sale For 70% Off This Week

Wave Wave started as a one-button twitch game in the vein of Super Hexagon. It was fast. It was simple. It was brutal. The re-released version is slightly more complex thanks to new play modes and achievements, but no less insane - seriously, it may make you vomit if it doesn't make you throw your tablet against the wall first.

Wave Wave has been Rebuilt from the ground up with all new enhanced visuals and game play. Get ready to rediscover the game. Wave up and down to avoid the gauntlet of triangles. Hectic. Extreme. Addictive. Racing. Tumultuous. Blitzing. Electric. Anaerobic. Treacherous. Wave Wave was selected as part of the PAX Australian Indie Showcase 2014.

Broadsword: Age of Chivalry

Android Police coverage: Broadsword: Age Of Chivalry Rides Into The Play Store On A Tegra-Optimized Horse

Ready for some old-fashioned strategy with newfangled graphics? Then Broadsword: Age of Chivalry is right up your royal highway. Though the graphics are better than most of the 2D fare in this genre (and even more so if you're using a TEGRA-powered device), the mechanics are straight out of old-fashioned PC and board games. Broadsword is free to download and play for the first two missions, then you'll need to cough up for single-purchase campaigns. Multiplayer via Google Play is included.

Broadsword: Age of Chivalry boasts turn-based strategy gameplay as players move from mission to mission in the Middle Ages. Command one of four different armies: the English, The French, the Spanish, or the Hapsburgs in this exciting Android game. Lead different types of units into battle -- from archers, knights, pikemen and catapults with special units per nationality. Control special 'heroes' units such as Henry III, Joan of Arc and El Cid, among others whose special 'hero' powers can affect the entire battlefield.

Deus Ex Machina

Android Police coverage: Innovative Classic 'Deus Ex Machina' Gets Ported To Android 30 Years After Its Debut, Enhancements Included

Deus Ex Machina, not to be confused with popular shooter series Deus Ex, was released way back in 1984. It's sort of an interactive movie in the style of Dragon's Lair, though nowhere near as cartoony: it told a hard sci-fi story peppered with puzzles and trippy visuals. The Android version gets updated graphics in addition to the original ZX Spectrum version, but it's only available on Amazon at the moment.

--

Hailed as a breakthrough in the development of video games, Deus Ex Machina won Game Of The Year, and is currently the subject of movies, books, exhibitions and even university courses. This 30th Anniversary Collector’s Edition includes the entire original version, a digitally remastered soundtrack, plus a brand new DIRECTOR’S CUT with all-new graphics.

1942 Pacific Front

Android Police coverage: HandyGames Releases 1942 Pacific Front, The Sequel To 1941 Frozen Front

Pacific Front falls somewhere between the top-down formula of war games like Red Alert and the turn-based mechanics of games like Civilization... with heavy-handed multiplayer and IAP mechanics thrown in for good measure. But you're still going to fall hard to anyone who's bought their way to the top of the leaderboard.

TRANSFORMERS: Battle Tactics

Android Police coverage: TRANSFORMERS: Battle Tactics Rolls Into The Play Store Towing A Big Load Of In-App Purchases

Bully for the Transformers franchise: instead of yet another endless runner or card battle game, the creators have made a turn-based RPG of sorts. You command tiny, big-headed versions of your favorite Transformers characters (the real ones, not the Michael Bay abominations) in small parties. Fans of the cartoons will recognize a lot of the old standards, but a heavy social element and tons of IAP sour things somewhat.

TRANSFORMERS: Battle Tactics is an exciting turn-based strategy game featuring a roster of over 75 iconic TRANSFORMERS characters including OPTIMUS PRIME, MEGATRON, STARSCREAM, and BUMBLEBEE. Players can assemble teams of TRANSFORMERS characters including AUTOBOTS and DECEPTICONS side-by-side in strategic combat experiences with other fans from around the globe.

Epic War TD 2

The game is premium and on sale for $3 right now (regular price $5), with no ads or in-app purchases to be found.

Sequel to the legendary Epic War TD that was downloaded 8.000.000 times. Exclusive Google Play release. Works fine on low-performance devices. 40% launch sale. Mikey Boots

Mikey Boots gives Noodlecake's familiar platfoming hero a set of rocket boots. That's pretty much all you need to know - the boots allow the two protagonists to float around a series of vertically-inspired levels. Like the platformers of old it includes various themed worlds and lots of diverse enemies, and the game also includes external controller support (a paradoxically uncommon trait on retro-style platformers).

Run and fly through dangerous levels. Watch out for enemies and spikes. Collect coins and find hidden Golden Shorts.

• 6 unique environments with 42 levels

• 2 playable characters

• 230 fun disguises

• Earn achievements

• Compete on Google Play

• HID Controller Support

Paper Dungeons Lite

Paper Dungeons is a mix of conventional Dungeons & Dragons-style tabletop RPGs and the newfangled "roguelikes." What makes it particularly noteworthy is a focus on player creation: it includes a map and campaign editor and an online gallery for aspiring creators to upload to and for bored players to download from. This particular listing is for the limited demo - the full game is just under .

Paper Dungeons is a fantasy board-game boosted by online content. With the ability to create and share online your own levels, you are up for an infinite replay value. The game is visualized as a classic tabletop board-game with dice and tokens. You can destroy walls and auto-heal as you uncover new dungeon tiles, which widens your choice of moves.

Trouble With Robots

Trouble With Robots is an interesting take on the collectible card genre. You take control of fantasy creatures and medieval units facing off against space-age robots, using your summon and spell cards to put friendlies on the field for real-time combat. The battlefield can have dozens of units on screen at one time, making for some visually interesting battles. Extra portions of the single-player campaign are unlocked via in-app purchase. There is no multiplayer component, though leaderboards are available.

Introducing TROUBLE WITH ROBOTS, a classic fusion between action and strategy. Build the perfect deck in this collectible card game. Apply direct damage, buff your allies, weaken your foes, and come up with your own strategies as you earn stronger cards.

  • ADVENTURE through 26 storyline levels and 6 very difficult challenge levels
  • CUSTOMIZE your deck for each unique level
  • COLLECT over 40 cards consisting of creature summon, healing, strengthening, direct damage, and other spells
  • UNLOCK levels and modes to add a new experiences and tons of replay value
  • CONQUER challenges and reap the rewards

Grey Cubes

Grey Cubes is a new take on Breakout. Wait, before you move on to the next entry, watch the video below: the developers are using some interesting physics mechanics and power-ups to put new spins on the classic gameplay. The multi-ball effects in particular will require skill and strategy to navigate. The app does have some IAP for in-game currency, but it maxes out at two bucks, and BulkyPix tends to be reasonable in that regard.

Grey Cubes is a modern variation on the brick-breaker-type game, based on real-time physics and three-dimensional gameplay. The game unites the classic elements of brick-breaker games (such as multiballs, exploding-ball bonuses, etc.) with new gameplay elements, including multi-layer brick patterns and real-life physics impacting on their in-game behaviour. Travel through 60 futuristics levels and break everything .

TINT A Survival RPG Comic Book

I'm glad we're finally getting a steady stream of gamebooks that aren't from Tin Man - no offense to those developers, but a little variety is always welcome. This Is Not A Test uses the somewhat played-out post-apocalyptic wasteland setting. Your job is to navigate the story and the terrain to get to an "ark" safe zone that's free of a deadly gas destroying mankind. You can be as good or as bad as you want to, but getting through the various chapters will cost you $2.50 a pop.

This Is Not a Test is a post apocalyptic graphic novel gamebook that pits your survival skills against the mayhem of doomsday as a strange death gas threatens humanity. Like a Choose Your Own Adventure, each panel of this RPG gamebook poses you choices that move the story forward. Create your fate by choosing your own path through the doomsday simulation -- the choices you make will unlock new paths in your quest for survival -- that is, if they don’t leave you dead in the chemical wasteland.

Hyper Rift

Hyper Rift is a sci-fi gamebook that augments its story with an overhead map, letting you know exactly where your character is in a desolate spaceship. It's an interesting approach to a genre that's grown dependent on hand-drawn art for flavor. The game helpfully lets you know how many of its 14 endings you've played through each time you start again.

You wake up in the medical bay of a spaceship with no memory of who you're, who put you there, and why. When you explore the spaceship, you realize that you're not alone. You meet strangers claiming that they too, have lost their memories. Are they friends or foes? Who is the mastermind? Are you in purgatory? Hyper Rift is a visual gamebook adventure that draws inspirations from science fiction mysteries. We've crafted an original science fiction story that blends real science with imaginations and present choices that lead to far-reaching consequences.

Staying Together

Staying Together is a unique platformer that requires the player to control two characters at the same time. This makes for some interesting gameplay with quite a lot of puzzles, and the unique art style works well in the context of the game. You'll need excellent concentration to get through the tougher portions of the stages.

This Valentines Day, celebrate love and loyalty with Staying Together. A mystical journey awaits you in this multi-character puzzle platformer. Control two lovers simultaneously in your quest to unite them. Looking out for the needs of a single character won’t get you far, as these inexorable companions move in unison. Only careful planning and cooperation can overcome the obstacles that divide this duo.

Motorsport Manager

Sports manager games have always seemed a bit weird to me, but I can see where a car racing version might appeal to people. The incredibly technical nature of motorsports lends itself well towards micromanagement, and that's what you do here: hire race drivers, organize a pit crew, develop new tech for your cars. It's well-presented too, though I'd play this particular game on a tablet if I had a choice.

This is your racing team. Hire drivers, develop your car and invest in technology. Work with your drivers to achieve the perfect qualifying lap. Formulate the ideal pitstop strategy to win races. Watch the race in real-time or jump into the strategy screens to take control of the action. React to weather changes, crashes and safety car periods. Win championships across the world to reach the pinnacle of motorsport.

Pukka Golf

Pukka Golf is a lot like the putt-putt you used to play as a kid: it doesn't really matter how many times you hit the ball, or whether you hit it while it's still moving, so long as you land it in the cup. The par value does add some points, but this Angry Birds-style golf game is more interested in time and stars - feel free to change direction in midair if you like. A single in-app purchase removes advertising and opens up the later levels.

Up for a challenge? Race against the clock in this fast paced take on golf. In Pukka Golf, you can take shots while the ball is still moving. Speed through 100+ levels and compete for best times against your friends. There is no shortage of fun in the Pukka Golf app with more than 100 levels of challenges available. Pukka Golf features 110 levels. 50 of these levels are free to play. A single in app purchase is required to unlock the remaining levels and remove adverts. There is only one in app purchase in Pukka Golf.

NOON

Noon is an odd little twitch game that tasks you with tapping a spinning clock when it hits, well, noon. That would be simple enough on its own, but the interface soon adds up to four clocks on screen at once, all spinning at different speeds, which instantly starts messing with your timing (no pun intended). It's a free game that will appeal to fans of Super Hexagon and the like, with a single $1 IAP to get rid of advertising.

Tap on 12 NOON. Stop the clocks. Rack up points. Challenge your friends. SANITY WARNING: Take regular breaks. Keep Calm. Do not throw your device at walls. Exclusive Android mode for those who need an extra challenge. Designed for phones and tablets.

0h n0

0h n0 is an elimination game, a mix of Connect Four and Minesweeper. The numbered blue dots delineate strings of blue dots extending vertically or horizontally, with red dots meaning nothing in that direction. Mark the dots using basic logic and a process of elimination, until you've cleared the whole board.

It's 0h h1's companion game. Remember that little logic game called 0h h1? Well, we've made a challenging new puzzle game to go along with it. Meet its companion... 0h n0. 0h n0 is a lovely little logic game that follows its own three rules:

  • Blue dots can see others in their own row and column.
  • Their numbers tell how many.
  • Red dots block their view.

Moxie Classic

Moxie is an adaptation of old-fashioned word games like Boggle and Scrabble, scraped down to its bare essentials for quick rounds. Use your allotted letters to make a word, then swap letters in or out for more words, et cetera. Specific target words will get you bonus points. The game is free with no in-app purchases.

Moxie is the original word transformation game...EASY to learn, but CHALLENGING to master. Over 900,000 Moxie games have been downloaded and over 70,000,000 games have been played. Moxie is all about transforming words into new words. You start with a hand of 52 letters that you go through "Solitaire" style. Place each letter on the board or "Pass". If you "Pass" you can't go back to that letter.

Run Bird Run

Mix Flappy Bird and Tappy Road and you get Run Bird Run, a game that amazingly features no adjectives in the title. That's not quite fair: the bird player characters are the only thing this game has in common with Flappy Bird. The gameplay is all about getting in the right spot to avoid blocks that fall from the sky Tetris-style.

Type 2 Kill

Type 2 Kill uses typing as a weapon, in the style of Sega's Typing of the Dead. This take on the niche is a little odd, though - you're using your phone's virtual keyboard instead of a real one, limiting its teaching utility somewhat. You play a mech that has to shoot incoming baddies by quickly and accurately typing. It's a decent implementation hobbled by a lack of support for third-party or Bluetooth keyboards. One IAP removes advertising.

The EAC tries to invade the west. Battle wave after wave of hostile EAC units, blast attack helicopters and mega tanks to pieces on your way to victory. TYPE 2 KILL features beautiful HD graphics and next generation visual effects. Crush the EAC and improve your typing skills. TYPE 2 KILL is not your standard dual-stick shooter. Aim and fire by typing the name of your target on the keyboard. Improve your typing speed and accuracy while having fun.

PIXELMAN Free

Pixelman is an "avoider" game that revels in its retro styling like a philatelist in a postal museum. The game itself is fairly simple: move around, save people, don't run into stuff. With Pixelman we may have reached maximum 80bit insufferability, but if you really like pixel graphics and chiptune music, this is probably your best bet this week. This version has ads, the paid version does not.

PIXELMAN™ is a retro-styled high score chaser, where you control the title character in his mission to rescue the citizens of Pixville from the evil Baron Von Pixel and his contraptions. The gameplay is very simple: you tap to go up, release to go down, and you can also swipe to move faster (but with less accuracy.) Your goal is to rescue the citizens (both humans and dogs.) to keep your heroic energy up, and also avoid crashing into buildings, traffic, and Von Pixel´s weapons and traps.

Machineers

Machineers is a building game that tasks you with creating all manner of kooky machines to solve the problems of the world's inhabitants. The core puzzles will be familiar to Gizmos & Gadgets fans, but there are a few light adventure and driving segments. The game has only one episode available on Android at the moment, with four more planned for release starting next month.

The first four puzzles are now FREE for Android players. Like what you’ve played? Just unlock the rest of Tivoli Town to keep going. Machineers is a construction puzzle game with quirky robots and wonderful machines. It is your job to repair broken contraptions and build your own mechanical inventions with your toolbox full of gears, belts, cables and plenty of other parts.

Bing Bong

Bing bong is a simple game. A green ball moves from side to side, and your only control over it is slowing it down with a tap. Avoid the blocks as they come in. That's it. The game is free with no ads or in-app purchases (except for a developer tip), and in the short time it's been available on the Play Store it has gained quite a following.

BING BONG is a minimalist, challenging and fast paced arcade game. All you do is touch the screen to slow down the green ball. Avoid all the obstacles flying at you and see how high of a score you can get.

● Simple One Touch Controls

● Google Play Games Achievements.

● Google Play Games Leader board.

● Optimized for a wide variety of phones and tablets.

● A single OPTIONAL In-App purchase allows you to support the developer.

Vektor 1.0

In Vektor you transport packages with both direction and magnitude. This is technically an "avoider" game crossed with an endless runner - just dodge traffic and the odd boss and you'll be OK. But it also has some competing high-tech motorcycle riders who clearly couldn't get enough of TRON. The game is short and sweet, and thankfully free, though it does include advertising (but no in-app purchases).

In this free-to-play action game, you assume the role of "The Courier". A wet-wired courier, whose mission is to deliver "top secret" data to aid the fight against the corrupt corporate government. While stretching through the endless highway, you battle against the corporate mercenaries, who would not hesitate to use any means necessary to prevent you from delivering the "package".

Gunner Z

Shoot zombies. Then shoot more zombies. Do it again and again until they're even more deader than before. Gunner Z is your basic turret shooter, but it does at least have a unique and appropriately spooky visual style, and the truck-based upgrade system is a bit interesting. It's a typical IAP grind-sink, but it might be fun for some short bursts of gameplay.

Take your fleet of customized “AC-HMV” armored assault trucks into a city overrun by an undead army. However, the enemies aren't merely mindless zombies; a powerful enemy military is using the engineered threat as a tool. Run by General Thacter, this twisted army utilizes undead soldiers and huge biological beasts as weapons alongside remotely operated mechanized units such as aerial drones, tracked RPG turrets, APCs, tanks, and more. The only force capable of stopping the undead army is YOU.

Miles From Tomorrowland

That's "Miles" as in the protagonist of this running game, not "miles" as in a unit of measurement, because they use kilometers on the planet Disneytopia. Loosely connected with the upcoming summer movie, Miles From Tomorrowland is a fairly standard endless runner with some impressive 2D sprite art. It's too bad that the game apparently suffers from some serious performance issues, and despite its kid-focused aesthetic, features IAP. Boo, Disney.

3…2…1… Blast off on a high-speed galactic race with Miles Callisto and his robo-ostrich best friend, Merc, from the new Disney Junior series Miles from Tomorrowland. Journey with Miles on rescue missions to the frozen planet Thurio, and use cool tools and tricks to dodge asteroids, collect rare space rocks, and turbo boost your way through this blastastic deep-space race.

Monkey King Escape

It looks like Ubisoft has run out of regular ideas for endless running games. That means just one thing: time to rehash some old ones. Monkey King Escape looks like it's based loosely (very, very loosely) on Journey To The West, one of the best-known Chinese legends. Gameplay is bog-standard run, jump, and attack, but the visual style is at least interesting. The game is free with tons of in-app purchases.

Watch out, here comes the Monkey King. Play as the legendary Monkey King and evade capture from the almighty Jade Emperor of Heavenly Kingdom. Angered by the Jade Emperor’s refusal to grant him an honorable place among the gods, the Monkey King gobbled down the precious Peaches of Immortality he was assigned to protect. Only YOU can help him navigate the treacherous Heavenly Garden with the Emperor’s armies hot on his furry heels.

High Sea Saga

Hey look, another Kairosoft game, and this one's about PIRATES! It features a customizable ship and a recruitable crew and all sorts of piratey (and mild fantasy) combat. But what's this? An IAP setup in a Kairosoft game? And for a recurring subscription? That's definitely weird, and it's already alienating a lot of fans, thanks in no small part to the $1 price tag.

Riches of legend inhumed in secret sites across the world, savage monsters to thwart each turn of your trek, rival players looking to scuttle your ship--such maritime mayhem and more await on this finest of swashbuckling simulations. You'll need a trusty team to surmount the odds, not to mention a vessel--so make sure you choose only the savviest of seadogs, and construct a jolly craft of true piratical proportions.

ONE PIECE TREASURE CRUISE

Welcome to the VERY FIRST Android game based on the mega-popular anime One Piece! All your favorites are here: Gumby Boy, Improbably Proportioned Redhead, Sword-Biting Guy, and... others. (I don't know anything about One Piece.) The game is a party-based RPG battler with a smart interface that puts all the controls well in reach at the bottom of the screen. Too bad it's a Namco-Bandai game, and is thus predictably reliant on in-app purchases and/or grinding.

ONE PIECE TREASURE CRUISE features intuitive tap controls that’ll have you sending foes flying in no time. Tap your characters at the right time to form combos and deal massive damage. What’s more, each character possesses unique special abilities that make battles even more exciting. Re-enact thrilling showdowns from the original story using your favorite One Piece characters.

Castaway Paradise

Castaway Paradise is a fairly shameless rip-off of Nintendo's Animal Crossing. Scratch that - it's extremely shameless, because it says so right down there in the description. OlliOlli

Android Police coverage: Indie Hit OlliOlli Skates Into The Play Store With Support For Shield Portable Only And A $12.99 Price Tag

OlliOlli is kind of like Minecraft for the Tony Hawk's Pro Skater set. It boils down the skateboard sports game into its purest elements, then boils that down even further into two dimensions. While the game was a hit on the indie PC scene, I doubt it will be so for Android - its $12.99 price tag and SHIELD exclusivity mean most people will overlook it. It's particularly shameful since there's nothing in the sprite-based visuals that really requires SHIELD's graphical prowess.

OlliOlli mixes addictive one-life gameplay with over 120 tricks and grinds across 50 deviously crafted levels, 250 Challenges, Spots Mode and Daily Grind. Not enough for you? Complete all challenges to unlock the super skillful RAD Mode. Rack up the biggest and coolest combos along the way then time your landing to perfection to rule the leader-boards. Just don’t slam on your face*. Compete across the world in all modes to get the highest scores on every Level and Spot.

Q*bert: Rebooted

This is Q*Bert. Some of you might know him as that weird swearing thing from Wreck-It Ralph. Now you can play Q*Bert on your Android TV device, on both the original format and a new "rebooted" option. For some reason the game hasn't been released for Android phones yet.

One of the most critically acclaimed and commercially successful arcade games of the 1980s is back in its Classic pixel perfect 2D form, and a re-imagined Reboot version with state of the art 3D game-play and graphics that remain faithful to the original concept. Both versions are exciting twitch games requiring keen puzzle solving skills and logic.

Intugame VR

This isn't a game, it's a tool that lets you play PC games on Google's Cardboard VR system. Basically it splits the game's field of view into separate screens, one for each eye, then streams it straight to the screen on your phone. It's a cool implementation, though obviously not everyone can take advantage of it. I have to dock the developers a few points for requiring a mailing list subscription to download the PC client.

Play your PC games in stereoscopic 3D with the help of 3D headset like Google Cardboard, Zeiss VR One or any other 3D headset. We stream your PC games to your mobile in stereoscopic 3D. We track your head movement and control your point of view in the game with it. What do you need to enjoy our app:

  • Google Cardboard, Zeiss VR One, Durovis Dive or any other headset for stereoscopic 3D.
  • You need to install our software on your desktop PC from http://intugame.com/get-intugame-vr/ (there is installer that will create desktop and start menu shortcut for Intugame VR)
  • Unzip and start our desktop app.
  • Start your game in windowed mode.
  • Make sure both your PC and mobile are connected to the same WIFI network or use cable and USB tethering mode.
  • Start our mobile app, hit Play button and put your mobile phone in the 3D headset.
