Under Armour is a well-known fitness brand, but despite its ubiquity on wristbands and sweat-wicking clothes, it isn't the first name that comes to mind in the digital realm. How does a company go about changing this? Buy the brands that are. So here we are, Under Armour announced today that is has purchased MyFitnessPal and Endomondo.

Both of these services are geared towards getting you in shape. MyFitnessPal helps you keep track of your calorie intake and has been installed from the Play Store over 10,000,000 times. Endomondo is a digital personal trainer that tracks distance, time, speed, etc. It, too, has seen over 10,000,000 downloads. Each comes with its own community.

This acquisition isn't Under Armour's first foray into producing software. The company already distributes the MapMyFitness and UA Record apps through Google Play. The former has been downloaded over a million times, which isn't shabby, though it doesn't compare to the numbers Under Armour just bought.

Under Armour plans to use MyFitnessPal to expand UA Connected Fitness with nutrition tools and added features. It will use Endomondo to expand the international presence of its Connected Fitness community.
