HTC promised to get Android 5.0 Lollipop through the approval process and out to the HTC One M7 and M8 in the US no later than 90 days after release. US product manager Mo Versi even officially started the timer when Lollipop was delivered by Google. Now Versi says that won't happen after all.

The deadline would have been February 1st, but Versi says it's just not done yet despite making great progress. The expanded update post on HTC's website explains there have been a number of issues with Lollipop that have been tricky to solve. He makes allusions to the various fixes Google has made to Lollipop since release, which HTC is incorporating as quickly as possible into its ROMs. Add to that the extra work that goes into carrier certification and testing, and it was just too much.

So far, HTC has successfully updated Google Play, Unlocked, and Developer Editions of the One M8. The M7 is still waiting, as are all the carrier variants of both. HTC is aiming to have the update ready as close as possible to the 90-day window, but at least the company is being upfront about what's going on.
