Welcome to the Android Police Podcast Live for Thursday, November 20th! We'll be starting soon - if you don't see a YouTube player, we haven't begun.

Welcome to the home of the Android Police Podcast's live broadcast. We're live every Thursday (unless otherwise noted on the official calendar below) at 5:30PM PST (8:30PM EST) - or perhaps a few minutes after that - every week. This post will be stickied on the Android Police homepage whenever we're broadcasting, so if you see it, we're either live right now, or about to be!

If it's 5PM and this week's show is not yet live, please stand by! You can hang in the IRC chatroom below.

David Ruddock
David's phone is whatever is currently sitting on his desk. He is an avid writer, and enjoys playing devil's advocate in editorials, and reviewing the latest phones and gadgets. He also doesn't usually write such boring sentences.

    most crowded podcast ever

  • Athishay

    Two questions guys..

    Eric, what headphones are those?

Why don't you have a guest on every podcast who isn't part of the androidpolice team or doesn't live in the US?

  • Jay Raj

Play store not work in galaxy grand its said no connection.

  • Jay Raj

After I have reset my device and I am trying to existing account but couldn't signing .other account it work like Samsung app account

  • EMullins

Hey guys. I missed the live podcast today but I just finished watching it. Just left you guys a podcast review on iTunes and I hope other people do the same. I've only been watching since September or something but it's been a great time for me so far. Thanks for the fun show and may your next year be even better!

  • Zee

Ep. 52 best episode EVER! Major lulz, man!! :D

  • http://twitter.com/Jug6ernaut William

Their argument about about carrier unlocking is simply wrong. They are assuming that unlocking your phone = terminating contract. WHY? This is ridiculous, unlocking your phone in no way terminates your contract, you are still fully obligated to pay to your contract.

  • Angel

The only thing I don't like about the podcast is that here in Europe it starts at 02:00 am (gmt+2). It would be great if it was 1 or 2 hours earlier, because we all agree it's better with the live chat.

Anyway I appreciate you are honest on your reviews: "I don't want to talk about another asus tablet no one is going to buy. What are you doing Asus!". Epic.

I didn't believe that Google+ Messenger was not accessible via browser, but of course I was wrong. I swore I remembered sending messages from the browser in the early days of Google+, but I checked and they are from August 2011. I can find message boards of people complaining about the issue online before that. There was news from Google, if the source below is correct, that Google is merging Google+ Hangouts, Google+ Messenger and Google Talk. I love that the product manager from Google admitted, 'We have done an incredibly poor job servicing our users here.' Is it true that Google has plans to merge the three? What's the latest news on that? If it's taking this long, should we expect something impressive?

Why are these podcasts not showing up in my You Tube feed? The last one that shows up is episode 49.

  • Derail Doax

Hey guys. Great podcast today. However I did want to say that there is a small minority of us out here who do think of sound production out of our tablets. I love watching movies or listening to music over my tablets and phones. Thus I'm very tempted to buy a HTC One, and also a Nexus 10 or possibly a Kindle Fire HD. I still have a HP Touchpad that I've been trying to replace but haven't made the move because I was having trouble finding a tablet that was able to produce the same volume and sound quality that the Beats audio speakers in the Touchpad were able to produce. Only now since the release of the Galaxy Note 10.1 have Android tablets been okay to listen to music through but I wasn't going to drop $500 on another Galaxy tablet being that after only one years time the resale price on my (first gen)Galaxy Tab 10.1 dropped to $250. Well now that the MeMo Pad has great sounding speakers at $300 then maybe that's my next buy. Thanks for the heads up.

It says I'm banned from this IRC, yet, i've never been in there before? Did you block a whole IP Range?

  • Vandré Brunazo

How do I rss to it?

  • Tim242

Verizon is wanting to lease spectrum from Clear, not buy it. Also, the payment plan is for devices that retail $350 and higher, with a 12 month payment plan and $24 finance charge.

  • jeremy

It says removed by the user now.

  • Eric Hahn

I'm so sad... removed by user I got up early so I could watch.

    • jeremy

It's been hours. I wonder if they've even noticed it's not there.

  • Scott Templer

what gives here it is the 11th where is the video, was it that bad?

    • Andy

the show from the 9th got cancelled because of problems with hangouts. so is going to be done today (13th)

  • dandre44

I'm new trying to see if I like this shit or not.

  • Chace Walters

You guys complained a lot about the new Play Music app saying it doesn't have a simple feature, while the feature is there in front of your face.

In the Listen Now, My Library and Playlist section, you can select 'all music' or 'on device'. it's right there. It's in the basic holo menu button in most app.

  • Pamela Hill

Dang boys! Could you have been ANY more off topic during this episode?? Did I still crack up a ton? Yes. Did I listen all the way through? Yes. But still...A TINY bit more Android news next time, will ya? ;)

    • http://www.androidpolice.com/ David Ruddock

      Indeed. :

  • Timothy

What David said at around 19:00 about the "last year's iPhone being world's best mid-range phone" is COMPLETELY FALSE.

Maybe last year's iPhone is considered "mid-range" because it costs $100 on contract in US, and I guess they consider the $50 iPhone 4 a "low-end" phone, too, but for the REST OF THE WORLD, all of these devices, including iPhone 4 are all pretty high-end priced - like at least $500 or more.

  • Igor Danilovic

    Nice episode guys...Thanks

  • Sootie

    David,

I'm sure being a good android geek you have already found it but in swift key I have mine setup basically just to correct my typo's as you described I have it setup to finish words when I type but not to insert predictions when I hit space. I don't mean to spark the normal keyboard debates just thought it might be worth mentioning.

  • needa

woodside did say that the carriers were working with them for the roll out of the x. its quite possible people will be able to buy it subsidized through the moto website.

nilay patel: "is verizon going to let you ship them? is it going to make you rename them? are you negotiating to have their software not on them? are they gonna skin the phone? uh how are you going to get to market with your vision, unfettered by the carriers."

dennis wodside: "So, you know a little bit of that is, you'll have to stay tuned. ill say that the moto x is going to be broadly distributed. uh, which is a first for motorola in a number of years. and the support that the carriers have provided has actually been fantastic. so i think they are excited with where we are going as well."

  • coggy9

My favorite feature is that they are wireless.

  • Nitin Gaba

    Wireless!

Now my kids won't be able to yank my headphones out, without some difficulty that is! Bluebuds X, I want you.

  • Nick

    I need new workout buds!

  • Ten TenJohn

    Awesome ear buds.

  • Anissa

    Earbuds ♥

  • Samir Taylor

    Definitely the battery life

  • Kie

This is perfect. I have been wanting these buds for a while. Honestly, the claims of ruggedness and lifetime sweat warranty are perfect for me. Most of my time spent with headphones in my ears is while running and no pair of headphones has held up for long. Exciting contest.

  • ecbnjaxfl

    The 8 hour battery life.

  • Tim Read

I have a pair of these and they are great... only issue - if you can call it that - is that they fit so well that I am isolated from the world :-)

  • Anastasia

Aside from them being wireless, which is already awesome, I LOVE that hey have a remote!!! :)

  • Nicolas Palomo

    Waiting for the podcast :)

  • Shawn Suther

Ive never had a reason to leave negative feedback, and as AP is my "go to" source for everything Android, I'm reticent to do so now.
But, just have to say, the idea of announcing contest winners live from the podcast seemed like a poor one. I DL the 'cast every time, and love listening to it on my morning commutes, etc. But trying to stream the whole heavy bandwidth YouTube stream on my phone was a complete disaster. Stutters, loadings, freezes, complete waste of time trying to play the YouTube player off the page (either in the mobile version or the full version). Of course I understand the idea of getting more users to be live listeners, and in general it was a good concept, but you disqualify everyone either not on actually Good LTE, or having to use a home computer (which seems funny for an Android website?)
Perhaps next time, or in general, provide an audio-only link/option? Or is the vain need to see your own faces (and know you are seen) while you do the enviable job of nerding out about our favorite topic too much? ;-)

Hope I was not one of the winners. ;-)

    • http://www.androidpolice.com/ David Ruddock

Audio-only streaming is not an option at this point - Hangouts is far too good a tool for us to abandon, and Bob's internet / PCs are already going at full-bore recording and broadcasting the show. If you want to listen live, you need the appropriate bandwidth / device, unfortunately.

If you want the full experience without the bugginess, use a PC. Android really isn't very good at doing more than one thing, sadly, and there isn't much we can do about that.

No video on Youtube - it says it was too long. No Soundhound audio version either. How are we from the other side of the world supposed to catch up?

This was an awesome episode. Thank you for what you do.

  • Michael Panzer

@rdr0b11:disqus I am sorry dude but when it comes to SoC you are just so full of shi* ! The point you tried to make that the Snapdragon 600 would beat the crap out of the current Nexus 7 S4 Pro ist just so damn wrong. If you've missed it, I'll tell it again for you.
Brian Klug from Anandtech, who really knows his stuff in comparison to you, found out that the SoC in the Nexus 7 2013 hast 4 Krait 300 cores which are, guess where, in the Snapdragon 600. Just have a look at the perfomance charts in the Nexus 7 review on http://www.anandtech.com and try making you stupid ass argument again!

Where have you guys been? First story in 6 days!

    • Tim242

No it isn't. Where have YOU been?

  • Tim242

What was the point of having a guest, if you weren't going to let him talk?

  • warcaster

Why wouldn't you call them patent trolls, David? It's not like they're suing with their "inventions". They bought a bunch of patents, set-up a shell company like Rockstar, and then got *Rockstar* to sue Google and others - so nothing is different so far from patent troll tactics.

If you think Apple and Microsoft aren't "patent trolls" per se themselves - Rockstar, which is their shell company set-up by them, definitely is, and it's exactly what IV has been doing for years, too.

  • Mlibbey

why didnt you get it together and then start the podcast lol?

Matt, I think you need a higher quality camera. It also seems to freeze from time to time.

Also, I've been wondering - has Artem ever took part in these podcasts?

  • Fatal1ty_93_RUS

    Who is Pam Hill?

Also, I've been wondering - has Artem ever took part in these podcasts?

    • http://AndroidPolice.com/ Liam Spradlin

Pam is your friendly librarian (and occasional cohost)! And no, Artem has never been on the podcast unfortunately. I will continue to strongly urge him to join us, but no promises.

      • Shawn

Aw, man. Artem, you should join the podcast. I think you'd be a great addition!

        • Crispin Swickard

Artem is a cipher lurking in the shadows. He can not be seen, or heard by mere mortals.

    • http://thegumshoe.com/ Michael Crider

Pam is our Comma Assassin (copy editor). She comes on the podcast when we get tired of looking at each other and need someone attractive in the mix.

  • Jon B

What do you guys think the future of the merge of motorola / lenovo will bring?

  • Jon B

What happened to the self-driving prototype with Audi? Isn't Google using the same technology to achieve this goal?

  • LevizX

Geez, how hard can it be to Google it? http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Tizen Tizen is pronounced t-eye-z-e-n

  • rmkilc

I'm confused. In the podcast you said the 4.4.3 update is rolling out for the Nexus 7 wifi and LTE versions. But, to my knowledge is it is not for the LTE version. Am I missing something?

  • Alan Paone

I love it when my favourite podcasts start with ads before the intro. I think that's really cool. It doesn't ruin the beginning of the podcast at all.

  • Noreen Dyer

I just finished watching the most recent podcast and had to comment...Thanks to Cameron, for being a good sport about the "cat faced mask". I always love to listen and watch the Android Police podcasts, and this one had me almost on the floor, crying and laughing hysterically! Thanks guys, for another great podcast & maybe, just one more mask! Please!

The Droid Turbo is the closest to the perfect phone for me I've ever seen. Nice textured look, big battery, fast processor, capacitive buttons (so I don't have to swipe to exit fullscreen), nice size... who cares if you think it's ugly? I'm already pissed enough that Google removed the Menu and Search buttons from the navigation bar.

  • Alexander F.

As for Google's unnecessary software, they should allow us to delete it. It's not about "I don't use them", it's about "I can't use them". In many countries Play Music subscription is "not available for your country", Play Books has no single book in native language, Newsstand and Play Movies are empty at all. So then why can't I just delete those apps? And more over, even if I disable them they return back on every software update.
    Bad thing.

  • Kostas

Poor Bob was left all alone... :/

  • robsa walker

All I can say to Bob's comment about nobody knowing what they were talking about is "I AM A BANANA!"....

  • shlk7

So skeptical you are David. Be optimistic!

  • SxperiaS

Sorry for the off topic, but i think you really should warn the users and see if Sony Speeds up the process. It seems that Sony my phone has a spyware problema. The apps creates a file named baidu that seems to connect to an IP based on China as reported here:

    http://talk.sonymobile.com/t5/Xperia-Z-ZL-ZR/Unknown-folder-baidu-is-created-on-starting-phone-each-time/td-p/819877/page/4

Sony has a serious security problem here.

    • SxperiaS

"This is escalated and i'm still waiting for more information on why this folder is created and what it's for. I will update you as soon as i have more information."

"This folder will be removed in future software updates for the phone. Until then i can only advise that you delete it manually after a reboot if you want to remove it. It's safe to just delete it." by Sony xperia support.

      Still very serious problem

    • Fatal1ty_93_RUS

There already was an article about this

    • Mert Mihci

its not specific to sony. if an app uses baidu's backup service for their chinese users, then it creates a baidu folder. I think ES File Explorer is one. I have the same empty Baidu folder on my LG G2.

Nexus 5 battery showing only 3 hours left at 100%. Any solutions ?

Greenify works just fine with Android L for me, I just disable the automatic hibernate features, which I can't use anyway because without root it require your screen to be unlocked, and I don't intend to root. I use the widget and press it manually from time to time.

For the person who complained about how everything is annoyingly white, one thing you can do is that you can change the color of the keyboard and use a dark theme. Find it under settings.
