The golden age of PC role-playing is coming roaring back on mobile devices. After releasing the enhanced edition of Baldur's Gate earlier this year, developer Beamdog has kept its promise to bring Icewind Dale to Android. This game was released in 2000 and had a lot in common with Baldur's Gate, though some would say it was even better. Now it can be yours on Android—all 2.6GB of it.

Icewind Dale is set in the Wizards of the Coast Forgotten Realms. The gameplay is based on the Dungeons & Dragons 2nd edition rules like a number of other games from that era. Consequently, there's a bit of a learning curve as you manage a party of adventurers in real-time combat. You can pause the game at any point, though, which will be helpful on a touchscreen device. It installs on phones, but I suspect the interface will be far too small to use. This game also comes with the expansion Icewind Dale: Heart of Winter, which was released in 2001.

There is a huge amount of gameplay included in this Icewind Dale, which was originally a PC title, remember. There doesn't appear to be any Google Play Games integration and no cloud saves. So you'll have to come up with a third-party method (ex. Helium or Titanium) to save your game data. You don't want to lose hours upon hours of progress when you switch devices. It's $10, but for fans of classic RPGs, you'll more than get your money's worth.
