Hello, European readers. Yes, we know you're there, and if we should ever forget, you're sure to let us know in the comments section for every cool new Google product you can't play with. If you live in Belgium, France, the Republic of Ireland, or the Netherlands, you'll soon be able to scratch at least one of those off your list. Nest is bringing its smart connected thermostat and Nest Protect smoke detector to these countries sometime in September.

Previously Nest's connected home gadgets were only officially available in the Unites States, Canada, and the United Kingdom, though the latest blog post says that Nest has users in over 120 countries at this point. (Thanks, eBay!) Google bought the company lock, stock, and barrel back in January, eventually selling both the original Nest thermostat and the Nest Protect on the Google Play Store in the US. The blog post doesn't say where exactly they'll be sold in the new European territories, but if not on the Play Store, they should still be available in online and brick-and-mortar electronics retailers.

Nest says that "the rest of the world isn't very far behind." I'm guessing that other European Union countries are first on the expansion list, though there's no timeframe mentioned. Everyone else will have to wait for their ultra-connected space age thermostats. Or just buy them off of eBay.
