The day after Update Wednesday isn't always as quiet as it may seem. A new version of another Google app is trickling out over the Internet, and this time it's the Big G's social network. The update is peppered with changes, so let's dive in.

What’s New

This release is filled with what we in the business refer to as enhancements. There are no new features here, but that's not to say the tweaks aren't appreciated.

For starters, there's a new profile page with an off-center alignment. Likewise, the round profile images and underlying grid are now officially compliant with Google's design guidelines.

In general, the plusshare, and comment icons are bolder and blacker. Update: The play button on videos has received some attention as well.

When you click on a photo, the text underneath remains as messed up and run-on as ever, but at least now the app turns links into proper hyperlinks.

Left, new. Right, old.

On the very minor end of things, you can no longer swipe to dismiss the auto-backup message.

Again, left is new. Right, old.

Continuing in the trend of minor changes, the post filter search box has moved. It used to be next to the dropdown, but now it's inside of it.

You know the drill by now.

There may be more changes that we have yet to notice. Don't hesitate to give us a holler if you happen to come across anything else after downloading the updated Google+ APK below.

The APK is signed by Google and upgrades your existing app. The cryptographic signature guarantees that the file is safe to install and was not tampered with in any way. Rather than wait for Google to push this download to your devices, which can take days, download and install it just like any other APK.

"Continuing in the trend of minor changes, the post filter search box has moved. It used to be inside of the dropbox, but now it's inside of it."

It moved from inside to inside?

    • http://bertelking.com/ Bertel King, Jr.

That is what we in the business refer to as a typo.

      Consider it fixed.

That ∞ notifications in the second pic, thru.

I can't help but notice the amount of flesh tones in those censored photos...

    • TheFirstUniverseKing

      They're just Minecraft selfies.

    • remister

Bro, you know there are 1080p screens now right? /s

    • John Smith

if you step back 100ft from the computer, that screen actually looks mildly titillating

    • Barrett Jasper

    • ALex

you can see much more if you blink fast while looking at it

    • maysider

whats worse, Google Plus is full of silent censoring working greatly for any gov

    • white_pawn

      Looks like grid of mugshots.

  • TheFirstUniverseKing

They seem to be making the Google+ app worse and worse with each update.

    • skitchbeatz

Navigation sucks even more now. The stream is overemphasized. If they're ripping functionality out (photos) and separating apps then they should just do that instead of this half stepping that they're doing.

    • AbbyZFresh

It's already dead since the former head left. It's only living in borrowed time.

      • Johnathan Rodriguez

Agreed. Still waiting on Android and Google maps to die.

        • mornaistar

Here, take this chair, it will take some years!

          • theunknown

I believe meant that to sound sarcastic but failed to add /s tag.

          • Johnathan Rodriguez

There's no need to add anything. The absurdity of my comment is enough for any rational human being to understand it.

        • maysider

          maps are already almost dead
totally useless for offline navigating (serve just as a searching toy)
Google has still not found why offline Android navigations report sales record
there is something very rotten in Google, probably all the execs use iPhone according to some report

      • mornaistar

        G+ dead? Really?

    • Larry Simpson

This is why I'm happy I've never used it! I'd hoping for more G+ deintegration

  • akshay

I have the apk for google search 3.6****"
    Reply if you want it!

  • Dave

Google keeps on improving and updating G+ but there still is no chronological timeline...
Is there any (understandable) reason for this?
    I think it's just plain stupid -.-

  • http://klinkerapps.com Luke Klinker

On a side note, that's my post from this morning! Hehe keepin' it real and people on their toes

  • remister

Was there a way to just show your nickname through the Google-verse or has that not been implemented yet?

  • jpelgrom

Comments on posts no longer have a gray background, but are now white (also visible in the screenshots above the screenshots for the non-dismissable auto-backup message).

  • Scott

Maybe they fixed their battery drain issue...

  • http://eichefam.net/ Paul

    I miss the navigation panel.

  • mariano zorrilla

All that "Off-Center" kinda sucks... looks so empty the right side.

  • redsmith

I notice something different about the text in the shared links, but for the life of me I can't tell exactly what it is. Is it cleaner? Did it use Roboto before? Not quite sure.

    • redsmith

Duh, I feel stupid now, it was blue text before, and now they're using black instead.

  • Nate
    • Cesar

I should have learned at this point not to click any links ever.

  • http://ja-som5.webnode.sk/ ja_som

    Also "notifications" are bigger.
I don´t know if it's called notifications, I mean, when you click on the bell :)

  • WORPspeed

They need to REMOVE that stupid double header and bring back the slide out menu!
    Like RIGHT NOAW!!!!

    • BehelitOutlaw

      No they don't

  • Benjamin S.

Still no way to quickly scroll back to the top? :(

  • http://bit.ly/nathanurbina Nate

Ugh, are these changes going on "what feels good" at the moment?

"On the very minor end of things, you can no longer swipe to dismiss the auto-backup message."
Now that it's stuck there, that's a little more screen space lost.

"Continuing in the trend of minor changes, the post filter search box has moved. It used to be next to the dropdown, but now it's inside of it."

I think the search box next to the menu was good and out of the way

  • Anhstein

    Bolder blacker, uglier.

  • joser116

Putting the search button inside the everything tab was a bad move, I'm always used to the search button being on the top action bar.

  • Guest

Added another account sync checkbox: Google+ Uploads

  • Juan Sebastian Camargo Visbal

Moving the search button is the most ridiculous decision they've had. It makes no sense!

  • Wesley Modderkolk

Those bold +1/share/reply icons look absolutely terrible. Who was the brilliant designer that thought that was a good idea?

  • Damian

Can I finally set my circle as a default feed? I am sick and tired of changing feed source every time I open the app.

  • Segroukin

You just had to blur the nudes *sighs*

  • Joe Tischer

    New hangouts update also!

  • Roberto Ingrosso

May I hope that they fixed the battery drain? I see often G+ as the top battery consuming app (over the screen too), altough I don't use the app, I have automatic photo upload disabled, and now and then I force close the app...

  • shing93

WTF, why is google so hellbent on destroying the google plus app? First the remove the hamburger menu, now they move everything off center and hide the search button. Who ever it is making these decisions needs demoted

  • AvatarLover

How did you make your profile Picture

  • whispy_snippet

The left aligned profile image... I don't like it.

  • GreatNews

It will now hole your current position

  • http://www.google.com/ Roshan

    Android v4.4+ Only.

  • navi16

i just notice that in the Photos App, the "all tab" is now grouped by date.

  • Brandon Langley

Hey my name is in one of the status pics!

  • True Radiant Free

LOL! Android Police just rickrolled us by putting that screenshot of the klinkerapps.com/blur hyperlink!
