Microsoft may have its own smartphone platform, but when so many Xbox gamers walk around with Android phones in their pockets, it would be a shame to ignore them (or their wallets). So the company has rolled out another update to its Xbox One SmartGlass beta app, and this one introduces the ability to purchase games and add-ons for the console remotely. It's a nice feature for people who have run out to buy an Xbox One with or without Kinect.

This is perhaps the most substantial addition, but it's not alone. The update also provides users with the ability to like game clips and items in their activity feed like the social media addicts we've all been groomed to be. For other enhancements, here's the changelog.

What's new:

  • Like a Game Clip
  • Like an item in the activity feed
  • View items that have been shared to you from a message
  • Purchase Xbox One games & add-ons
  • Browse for recent and popular games & add-ons
  • General stability and polish improvements
  • Bug fixes
  • Some features may require a console update to take full advantage of them
  • Improved Feedback tools that no longer use email

Doesn't work on L preview yet, but at the rate they are updating both the console and the app I would imagine it'll be working well ahead of the official L release later this year

The 10 Xbox One owners that have yet to sell theirs and buy a PS4 will be full of "meh".

    • Shane

At least until Android TV comes out, the Xbox One is still the best TV media device around if you have cable.

      • Kevin

What about if you don't have cable?

    • Seiga

Multimedia experience have always been superior on XBOX. This is the first time PS4 can claim hardware superiority. But the exclusive games on sony have been subpar compared to exclusive games on Xbox. Just cause you love the PS4 for whatever reasons, shouldn't equate to knocking on XBOX. Each have their strengths and weaknesses. I mean.. .Look at Sheldon from Big Bang Theory in the episode where he couldn't even decide between the two. Sums it up right there.

I dunno about exclusives being subpar... Uncharted, Last of Us, Journey, Infamous, Heavy Rain, LittleBigPlanet, God of War, etc. Sony has had some really great exclusives, but they are certainly taking some time to show up for the PS4 . If anything, Microsoft needs to catch up, but they're doing a great job picking up more exclusive IPs. I just hope it doesn't end up like the 360 at the end of the lifecycle, where it was nothing but Halo, Gears (which unfortunately went downhilll after 3, but maybe Black Tusk can do something really great) and Fable.

The Playstation exclusives totally destroy anything Microsoft used to have. Right now with the PS4 outselling the Xbox One 4:1 (6:1 in Europe 3:1 in the US), nobody is going to fall on their sword by signing a exclusivity deal with Microsoft.

The Xbox brand is now worthless, and will got the same was as Windows Phone, Surface and all the other Microsoft trash,

I'm looking at you, Sony. It's your turn to add this stuff as well

    • Adam

What specifically? They've had the ability to purchase and automatically download games from the Playstation App since the PS4 launched... In fact, it allows you to purchase PS3 and Vita games and initiate a download, as well.

      • Fatal1ty_93_RUS

Their PS4 companion fucking sucks. All it is good for is checking online friends, send messages and check trophies. To buy/send anything to download - you have to open up your webbrowser and use the web version of the PlayStation Store - and you're lucky if you are using a phone with optimized mobile variant.
Why the fuck would I need the app at all then?

This update, however, allows you to browse for Xbox Live content from within the app and actually BUY stuff through it.

So far Xbox Smartglass > PlayStation App. Oh, and there's still no landscape support for the PS App + notifications don't work at all. Sony is really a lackluster when it comes to mobile playstation apps and mobile platforms in general, except for their Xperia line

    • Mike

Errm, are you stuck in 2011? They already have all of this and more.

      • Fatal1ty_93_RUS

Oh? So Mobile PlayStation app now has a built-in Store?

Start working at home with Google! It's by-far the best job I've had. Last Wednesday I got a brand new BMW since getting a check for $6474 this - 4 weeks past. I began this 8-months ago and immediately was bringing home at least $77 per hour. I work through this link, go to tech tab for work detail
