Perhaps you don't remember the Xperia L – this 2013 handset never made much of a splash in the US. However, it's proven a popular budget device internationally. It probably won't be seeing a ton of update love through official channels, but at least you'll have CyanogenMod. The first nightly build is available for the Xperia L right now.

The Xperia L has a FWVGA resolution (854x480) LCD, a dual-core Snapdragon, 8MP camera, and runs Android 4.2. You probably know the drill by now. A nightly build isn't as risky as the experimental ones, but it's not yet at the level of a milestone build (the replacement for stable builds). Flashing the very first nightly might be a questionable course of action, but you're free to take the plunge – just grab the 212MB ZIP.

Cannot unsee. This term will forever be stuck in my head now.

  • Mike Harris

I don't know much about bidget international devices, but that's a nice looking phone.

    • Dwayne Wilkinson

Only available in New Zealand, bro.

      • Mike Reid

Many Hong Kong based EBay sellers beg to differ, for as little as $175 US shipped.

      • Chris P

Wait, really? I never saw the Xperia L 'round here. Between them, Telecom and Vodafone have had the E, E1, M, M2, SP, Z, Z1, and Z2... But the Xperias T, V, J, and L only appeared in parallel importers... unless I missed something.

        • Dwayne Wilkinson

Sorry, I was taking the piss. That was my extremely poor attempt at a joke at the expense of your accent (fush and chups anyone?). Coz us Aussies are perfect. ;)

          • Chris P

Ah, right, the bidget thing. Gotcha. Didn't cross my mind, probably because of my accent allegedly having a mysterious British overtone... but I dunno :P
(and also maybe because I wanted the Xperia L when it came out. I mean, look at it)

    Bidget phones-Super small budget phones

  • hoosiercub88

I always liked the notification LED bar on these phones.

    • Kicek

I like it too until I have to plug it in to charge in the evening.

(fortunately it's easy to turn off in CM)

      • Chris P

Oh lawd yes. The Z1 Compact's LED is blinding if you have the phone pointing the wrong way... it's at the perfect spot such that having it on a side table shines the LED right in one's face.

    • Fatal1ty_93_RUS

ikr, Xperia devices probably have the best LED implementation I have seen so far, especially since it's also multicolor. I like how it glows green during charging on my mom's Xperia M

    • Chris P

The Xperias M, SP, and L have had my favourite notification LEDs ever... thought the Z series' ones are in the earpiece, which is also pretty neat.

  • Arjit Mehra

I have this phone and am running AOSPA,runs pretty well!Prefer AOSPA over CM :)

  • Kicek

Wow I am surprised that my device getting CM is enough of a news to make it AndroidPolice.

    • Mike Reid

      Calm down. ;)

Every new CM device gets it's mention, pretty much.

Obscure device. Just 1 in my app sales stats, LOL.

  • lol

i'm reading the title as sony xperia gets android L,lol

  • Fatal1ty_93_RUS

Xperia L looks really cool, why didn't I hear about this device until now?

    • WhyWai

      because it's not a flagship

      • Fatal1ty_93_RUS

Aw :( too bad, I think phones with designs like this deserve more attention (especially than Samsung plastic toys)

  • stephan

great looking device, too bad the specs dont seem to stack up with more recent devices or Id be interested in picking one up

  • rr93

    Budget+Midget=Bidget. You're welcome.

    • Fatal1ty_93_RUS

So AP has just invented a new mobile tech term?

  • Navanshu Rastogi

i think it is budget rather than bidget

Start working at home with Google! It's by-far the best job I've had. Last Wednesday I got a brand new BMW since getting a check for $6474 this - 4 weeks past. I began this 8-months ago and immediately was bringing home at least $77 per hour. I work through this link, go to tech tab for work detail
